Tom, do you think TSMC is a good anti-inflation stock? Great upside, chip shortage, inflationary times ahead. I just doubled down on it.

I am happy I have most of the things in the house that I desire.
I can wait. I have to wait! Hell this year I probably might buy a Nintendo Switch, because that is both out and has games out for it!

Tell Powell to print some chips! He wanted people to continue not producing with a promise of a check(bribe) for unknowingly agreeing to crash the economy.

this is why 3D printing will be huge. it will allow insourcing of manufacturing electronics parts again

Tom can you make a video on how to prepare DCF

TSM will raise its price where Supply and Demand are in equilibrium. Like you said, Econ 101

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Martin Clark says:

Governments did think about this strategically. They wanted this to happen. They want everyone dependent and no one independent and self sustainable.

I recall a huge computer RAM chip shortage in the years 1999 and 2000, due to mystery fires at 2 I think it was at chip makers in US and Taiwan. I know one engineer was alleged to he stealing RAM server chips at companies he was supposed to support.

Trump should've done something but he didn't. Too busy worrying about his Twitter account. At least Biden is trying.

Given the chip shortage, are you looking into any good semi conductor companies poised to benefit with good fundamentals?

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ketil Kristiansen says:

The main reason for there being so few chip foundries is that as the process nodes have grown smaller, the investments required to build a foundry have gone through the roof, to the point that most chip design houses couldn't do their own chip production however much they might want to. That's not to say the comments about margins are off, but they would apply to only a few "big fish" that might have the financial muscle to be able to build a modern foundry.

In the past countries like brasil had hyperinflation where the prices of goods were doubling each month.

I reported a false Tom Nash for spam here. I wish there were an option to report for impersonating the channel owner. It´s getting ridiculous…

We tried ordering laptops for the company from Dell, they put us on a waiting list a few months ago! No wonder! What you are saying is actually really important!

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Starcraftmazter says:

I was just thinking the other day, what's happening with electronics is just the first big example (right now) of lots of printed money chasing a finite set of goods (or services). You can't just print infinite money and hope all will be fine – and this is a great example as to why. Inflation has now actually jumped from assets onto consumer goods, and it's only a matter of time until it spreads past electronics.

This was an excellent video. I wonder what Tom's opinion is on the Pandemic Eviction Moratorium expiration surely that will lead to more evictions, more supply and more foreclosures (granted it is only the housing market)

Computer chip supply chains have always been fragile from the late 70's onward. I remember one time I think in the 80's an earthquake in Sumitomo Japan disrupted the supply of the plastic used for chip packaging causing a world wide shortage of semiconductor chips. Fragile supply lines are amongst the biggest risk to any in any manufacturing industry. This is just a minor blip compared to the supply chain issues that are going to arise around battery materials.

I think when the 11th gen intel parts drop we will really know what is going on. 7nm and 5nm at tsmc is out of this world hard to do, it is likely that they just don't have the yield rate and manufacturing speed. These plants take years to come up… and there are too many clients for the most supply tsmc can output.

But this isn't the entire issue, other lithos appear to be at issue as well. Gm and tesla do not lean on cutting edge nodes. Their dsps, socs, mems, etc… are all very old proven tech (They work on a 7 yr cycle with redundant supply chains with extended life cycle product well past consumer electronics). The fact that gm and tesla are having issues imply deeper issues like possibly cobalt shortages… but that would imply shortages for batteries as well… which seem to not have slowed down in production. Not sure but what I do know is there are deeper problems than what is stated here.

It’s the same thing with construction labor. YouTube has created this fabulous platform where I’ll show you how to do things but I don’t get my hands dirty anymore. So much digital content being created nobody wants to do the actual work.
