It's refreshing to listen to an analyst (Kevin) that knows the real economics of tech companies, His analysis of SMCI is valid for a number of reasons. Having a 25 career in IT at mega telecom, here's the "boots on the ground" reality. Data center infrastructure hardware, such as SMCI:
1. Has a relatively low barrier of entry for competition.
2. Data center construction is indeed growing, but so is the processing power per square inch, so to speak.
3. In just a decade, we've gone from physically large individual servers boxes, to blade servers – high capacity processing on motherboard cards that slide into a small chassis. Exponential increases of processing power to chip size means just one of these blade server boards can host dozens of virtual servers.
4. Data storage is consolidated in separate racks connected to servers via fiber optic. Several Peta-bytes of solid state storage now fits in one rack. A decade ago, this amount of storage required dozens of racks.
5. Chip technology gets more energy-efficient exponentially – more processing per watt and reduced cooling needs.
Yes, data center growth is high because of exponential growth in data processing needs. But major consolidation occurs every time processing per square foot growth reaches a temporary plateau, until a new wave of disruptive, profitable (or cost savings) technology goes mainstream, creating instant demand for more data processing.
High-intellectual property tech such as NVDA, AAPL, GOOG, etc. Is an entirely different animal with it's own set of growth and competition factors. One type of tech investment isn't necessarily better than another, but an investor needs to be aware of differing growth cycles along with over-hype and heard mentality.

1. Tesla is way too costly for an automobile company like Ford and GM.
