The full run down of the best credit cards for those who are new to credit, looking to get their very first credit card.
I go through the best options available to you, highlight the pros and cons of each card and give you a few tips on what you should look out for.
1. 01:22 - Tesco Bank Foundation Card
2. 05:48 - Aqua Advance
3. 08:22 - Barclaycard Forward
4. 10:53 - 118118 Money Credit Card
5. 12:16 - Chrome (Vanquis)
6. 14:34 - Capital One Classic
These credit cards might all look similar, but all offer slightly different terms so make sure you check the credit limits available, the minimum payment (some are much higher than others) and the different interest rates you may get in the Summary Box of each credit card before you apply.
Some cards will reduce your rate over time while others offer small perks which are not common for beginner credit cards.

Hello, My Credit Score is 821 and I tried to make credit card, but I'm not eligible, I want to know what is the cause, thank you!

    Hi,
Can you use the credit card more than once in a month as long as it doesn't go over your credit limit? For example, buy petrol today and then groceries the following day/week.

Just to add, I really don't need to use the card that much tbh, just for weekly expenses here and there. I have a £400 limit but use around £50 or less each month. Hopefully this doesn't affect my credit as I'm not using the full amount or using more than once in a month for small expenses for £20 here and £20 there.

Also, if the payment due date is 04th of each month and statement on 08th of each month when is the cut off date to use the card please?

Sorry a lot of questions but thought I'd ask them all in one go.

Terrible advice. I have a Lloyds platinum and it’s only 9.99% but that is after years of having a normal Lloyds cc at 21.00%

Which Barclaycards are free? I just wan't a card which I can use for small purchases and then pay it back instantly just to get my credit score up. Why do Barclays make it so dam confusing?

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Harshil Patel says:

I got an amex platinum cashback card last year, which offered 5% cashback on the first 2k spent. Got an annual apprentice oyster card which got me halfway there (pre covid, which I then reclaimed sadly as I stopped commuting)

Great Video for a beginner like me. My only aim is to improve my credit history for loan/mortgage purposes. What is the best option you would recommend? Thanks in advance!!

Thank you! Very useful and informative video as always.
I would like to start building the credit score but as someone with no credit history in the UK and a self-employed person on comparison website it shows that I don’t qualify for any of the credit cards. I am wondering is it still worth applying and what can help to qualify for the very first credit card? Which of the cards should be the best bet?

I got the Aqua card 3 months ago and I started with £250 and today I got a message saying they are raising it to £1000!

I have had the capitalone classic card for around 8 months and still stuck at £200 so Aqua truly are a great card to be with

  12. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mohamed Ali Faleh says:

Great vid bud 👌 but I just applied for the 118118 credit card and I got rejected! And a year ago I also got rejected for barclays forward!! 😕
I wish I know why so I can fix that problem🤷‍♂️

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars D ! says:

Great points. I currently less than £5K a year, so I plan to go for the Aqua Card. If I was to build good credit on this card and cancel the card after 2 years, would this affect the credit score? The purpose of me cancelling the card is so that I can move onto a better credit card

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jacob Fewings says:

I was declined from Tesco Foundation despite not having a credit card before, and earning over £5000 a year, any ideas why this might have been?

I turned 18 in may and I’m a student. I’ve been trying to apply for credit cards and credit buildings cards for the past few months but I seem to be getting rejected constantly. When I do an eligibility check, it says that I have a 0% chance of being approved to a lot of the credit card companies that videos like these recommended for people with no/bad credit. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong😅 I can’t put my phone contract on my name because when they do a credit check, it says that I am not eligible, therefore my phone contract is still on my mums name. Does anyone have any tips that can help me get out of this repetitive cycle?

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars rscott0202 says:

So is the interest rate irrelevant if you pay everything off in the month? Like are credit cards completely free if you pay them off in time?

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Patrycja Horecka says:

I have a question. My Credit Score is very good actually, because 640 out of 705 I think at the moment at Karma Credit and 966 at Experian. I have American Express Credit Card with £6,250 allowance and PayPal with £1,100 everything paid on time and under 25% of the max. allowance. I am trying to apply for another Visa or MasterCard Credit Card in UK as not every place I go accept AMEX and just wanted to have another one in case to make my life easier. Unfortunately, any Bank and any Card I apply refuses me and I am confused why? Is it because I have already a £7,350 allowance of Credit and they think that would be too much to agree for another one even though my score is good? Any idea what should I do? The only option at the moment I found is this Capital One Credit Card, but sounds like for a people with a dodgy score, when mine is really good.. Many thanks in advance!

I got a vanquis card about 3 years ago as my first credit card it's got £150 limit. I've never once went over my limit and never once missed a payment, it's automatically taken through direct debit every month but yet my credit limit has not increased at all in those 3 years and only reason I got it was to improve my credit score which also hadn't budged due to stupid vanquis! They told me I wasn't using it enough so end up buying things I don't even need just to use the damn thing but guess what my limit still doesn't move! So I ended up just not using it. I've decided to try and give it another go and use it regular again but only so much you can do with £150 and they said to not even use all that only use half every month. I think somethings wrong and their computers don't register my activity or something as not one other person I know has this experience, they all get increases with less positive behaviour than me, maybe I should get another credit card and ditch this one?

You sir are bloody brilliant thank you for the informative video you have a new sub. I'm quite mature and got my first credit card two years ago from a well known high street store. I never really knew what I was getting into and although I used it carefully I have been hammered with interest over the years. I now have a much better credit card with a much lower APR. I wished I had watched your video 2 years ago.
