All we are talking about here is the big ask spread, which you can clearly see on the platform. "HF trading firms" are just market makers. These market makers can potentially save you money by executing orders off-exchange. This allows them to avoid the fees that come with trading on an exchange as they can fill a retail stock order directly with their own money or in a dark pool. In the US, market makers are required to provide the best bid or offer that’s publicly available, regardless of how a trade is filled.
Some brokers will route to as many market makers as possible to get you the best deal. Rather than ripping you off, the market makers are competing to get you the best spread and the broker aims to get you the best execution. Schwab even tells you the amount they saved you by finding this best execution.

honestly who cares… it saves the customer money. At the end of the day, you either pay A LOT more in commissions or you pay pennies for order flow. I'd rather pay pennies.

My question is: if I set lmt order, how would the HFT company make money off me by flipping? But I assume if HFT company pays RH for $5 a transaction, they means that firm will make even more off it from rat trade so in the end it comes out of my transaction anyway?

for the order flow selling, i dont get the impact if i am not a DAY trader, or if my order to buy is waiting for the pull back on the current price, like more of a swing trader.

I use TradeZero and while I like them I know they sell your order flow. So does this mean if you add liquidity instead of take it you're just never going to get filled?? I have hotkeys to buy on the bid +.01 c and most of the time they fill, especially during a dump. So you do have access to regular market liquidity, it's just that the HFTs get to react to your order first?
