As a Chinese citizen, I would say a big part of the current problem is actually created by the Chinese government self. They got over-confident, and obsessed with the covid-zero policy and common prosperity. Now, as the economy going slow, the central government is rolling out many stimulus packages, however few of them works. Don't get me wrong, the central government still has overwhelming support in China, and has many cards in hand to stimulus the economy. But the politics (both internal and international) plays a big role here. Hope things will get back to rational after Oct.'s party congress meeting.

I saw a video that in order for men to get married they must own property, even though they live and rent a 1 bedroom apartment. On paper they must own property, so these guys are buying condos in these new cities all over China that are ghost cities. Knowing full and well that the entire building they have bought a condo in will never ever be finished. It’s the wildest and stupidest thing I have ever seen.
