So have you tried leveling up your favorite credit card? Most people don't even know you can take a credit card that you already have and upgrade it to something better. For example, you could take this Amazon Prime card and call the servicer which is Chase Bank and ask them to upgrade you. They'll then take a look at your credit score, your spending habits, and your current income to see if you're eligible for a more Premier level card with better benefits. And if you are, they'll upgrade you.

But why upgrade versus apply for a new credit card? One most importantly, it keeps your credit score strong as it transfers all of that history from your original card into the upgraded one. Two, it opens the door for better rewards because your current card servicer already knows your spending habits and they're more likely willing to upgrade you. And three, you get a much bigger spending limit. Which doesn't mean go out on major shopping sprees, but it means your overall credit utilization is going to be far lower, making your credit score even better.

So don't cancel cards or go open a bunch of new ones. That's bad, but there's tons of little credit card Secret.
