Google isn't supposed to exist and the entire world doesn't know. So in 1999, countless search engines were available for people to choose from. Google Co-founders Larry and Sergey were still PhD candidates at Stanford and wanted to sell Google to focus on their academics. Larry Approached the number two search engine at the time, Excite to do the unthinkable.

He was going to sell Google for 750 000, but a site found one dangerous flaw with Google. It actually gave users what they wanted. If Excite were to host a search engine that instantly gave people the information they sought, the users would leave the site instantly. This would give us no ad Revenue Ask.com which required Excite only has two percent of the market, whereas Google now has over 90 percent of the market.
