I have to say though, despite the switch, Tesla and Elon Musk are clearly brilliant at making money. This is genius. Elon makes it sound like he is the good guy leaving you with the solar panels when you cancel the service. But you just had a licensed roofer check out your roof, there is no way that it needed $30k worth of repairs. The most expensive part of a solar install is the hookup and power wall. The actual panels are not that expensive. My guess is the small system they are leaving you cost no more than $9k. If you went through with re-roofing, Tesla made almost $11k minus the cost of the system. And you will still some how need to pay Elon 60 bucks a month. Brilliant!

Are you sure that the offer of $30K was not for the solar roof tiles, not just solar panels?
How does financing the panels or purchasing them eliminate the 3 issues you have with a PPA? Same smaller family could move in and not need your system size. You could still owe $10k on them and the new owner say they aren’t paying for it?

I wish I hadn't gotten Tesla. They tricked me in a different way. I am getting older and never made a lot of money so I cut the cable, got rid of my landline, never got internet or wifi and bought a Vornado to help lower my oil bills but I wanted something to help with electric bills so I was attracted to the concept of solar. The only thing is that it didn't make sense to get solar if I had to get internet so I went to Tesla's site and asked if I could get solar without internet and they said, "No problem, there are cellular options." that really excited me. I spent weeks really processing it and asked again just to make sure, "So I can get solar and not have internet and this is important because I won't buy solar panels if I need internet because the cost of internet would wipe out the benefit" and they said, "No problem, you don't need internet for solar to work, you just need it to monitor your panels" so I bought solar and when they were sending someone to do the installation someone contacted me ahead of time saying I needed internet and I said, "I specifically asked more than once because if I need internet I need to cancel this order" and he said, "Nope the internet is just for monitoring the panels" so I set up my installation and asked one more time just to verify that I understood properly and I talked with the whole group of installers about the topic and they all said, "No problem. The system doesn't need internet to work. It will be fine." They didn't even leave a Gateway for me because I didn't need one because I don't have internet. I verified it one last time with the person pre-inspection and said, "I only have 7 days to decide whether to take the system off my roof, so I just want to verify that I don't need internet because I will only have $70 to $100 savings and internet will cost me that much and possibly more with fees." Well, here is where the problem comes. My system didn't work and the person I talked via email with said, "No, it is probably fine, it is winter and it probably isn't generating much power" and I thought that sounded reasonable but it turned out that the inverter had LED lights on it that never worked and I thought it was going to be no problem getting them to replace the inverter but here we are 4 months later and my system has generated ZERO sales and has not saved me even one penny on my electric bill but Tesla will NOT service my system saying that they will not service it ever unless I get internet and internet at this time of year would cost MORE than the electric savings meaning that I am already $16,000 out of money and now I will be losing an extra $20 or $30 per month until closer to Summer. Apparently, there is some fine print on page 15 of my contract that I had read but not understood which is why I asked every single worker at Tesla who was involved in my process but they will not honor the words of their workers and they are mean as rattlesnakes.

Buy solar you won’t have control in the system because the company only worried until you pay then is your problem to do the maintenance.
