I literally lived the same miserable life as your friend did but in addition, I've got a f*ing stroke at the end of it in the f* ing office and I became paralyzed from it.
Obviously, I survived and recovered a lot since then, but my left armand leg remained fully paralyzed. So I just can confirm to you, that this type of goal setting is not worth it to lose everything, nontheless for today I'm able to appreciate every little thing in my life and I'm happier than I've ever imagined…
a good walk in the sunset is worth a lot more than my whole f***ing banking career before…

Thanks for posting this Tom. For everyone watching, and reading the comments here is a good quick poem called "The Station". As someone who has two adult kids, wife, and once owned a business I can tell you this poem, and your friends story is so real for most all of us. Slow down, and enjoy life-its not about the money!!!
    "The Station"
Tucked away in our subconscious minds is an idyllic vision. We see ourselves on a long, long trip that almost spans the continent. We’re traveling by passenger train, and out the windows we drink in the passing scene of cars on nearby highways, of children waving at a crossing, of cattle grazing on a distant hillside, of smoke pouring from a power plant, of row upon row of corn and wheat, of flatlands and valleys, of mountains and rolling hills, of biting winter and blazing summer and cavorting spring and docile fall.
But uppermost in our minds is the final destination. On a certain day at a certain hour we will pull into the station. There sill be bands playing, and flags waving. And once we get there so many wonderful dreams will come true. So many wishes will be fulfilled and so many pieces of our lives finally will be neatly fitted together like a completed jigsaw puzzle. How restlessly we pace the aisles, damning the minutes for loitering … waiting, waiting, waiting, for the station.
However, sooner or later we must realize there is no one station, no one place to arrive at once and for all. The true joy of life is the trip. The station is only a dream. It constantly outdistances us.
“When we reach the station that will be it!” we cry. Translated it means, “When I’m 18, that will be it! When I buy a new 450 SL Mercedes Benz, that will be it! When I put the last kid through college, that will be it! When I have paid off the mortgage, that will be it! When I win a promotion, that will be it! When I reach the age of retirement, that will be it! I shall live happily ever after!”
Unfortunately, once we get it, then it disappears. The station somehow hides itself at the end of an endless track
Relish the moment” is a good motto. It isn’t the burdens of today that drive men mad. Rather, it is regret over yesterday or fear of tomorrow. Regret and fear are twin thieves who would rob us of today.
So, stop pacing the aisles and counting the miles. Instead, climb more mountains, eat more ice cream, go barefoot oftener, swim more rivers, watch more sunsets, laugh more and cry less. Life must be lived as we go along. The station will come soon enough.

Me and my girlfriend started our own company last summer. It's about gardening, plan "simple" gardening. Sure, we will never have the revenue of Google, Walmart etc, and we will probably never become rich due to this business. But it's fun and we enjoy it. It's fun to see something that you own grow. But the best part is really when our customers tell us that they are happy with what we do and pleased with the result.

It took me a while to get to that point too. Luckily, like him, I saved my money in my 20s, so I could get out of my old life and take some risks.

I don’t agree. You got it wrong completely. You find happiness through others.
Your friend was doing all that for himself and for money (for himself). But he might be able to use his experiences to learn a better way.
Maybe like you found happiness doing this YouTube channel for others.

This is legit the most real video I've watched in years on YT. I've watched your content from the start, and I'm sure you've seen my comments over the years, but I watch everyone in the PLTR community, and support by watching a lot of different channels, and this one little random video as far as a real life lesson, is the most important IMO. Everyone needs to hear this, and this has helped me do some pausing and self-reflection as well. Thank you!

As a “celebrity” personal trainer in LA and now as a recovery coach, truer words have never been spoken. I have worked with some of the most famous and/or wealthy people on the planet. If you don’t find it from within, specifically helping others, nothing will fill the hole. Nothing.

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars D R-K says:

Man Tom, this hits on another level during this US holiday that celebrates Labor/Workers.

We are told buy our parents that success/happiness is through achievements in work and salary. As someone who lived differently and is NOT CONSIDERED SUCCESSFUL because I didn't follow the path others took, I can say that I've been happier since making the decision to do what is best for me overall. It's not easy, not everything works out, but I will achieve my goals and I have lots more I am looking to do. It is truly an internal work that allows any happiness I have had to be able to come to me.

I wish your friend the very best in his new venture and that his path to happiness will unfold before him for the rest of his days and that his time in that winery will not be the last time he feels complete.
