All right y'all, so this is the video y'all been waiting for this video i've been waiting for too american express july 1st the platinum card. The changes got the list right here. I got this information from the phone with an american express representative yeah. They gave me the spill.
I want to talk about it. Let's go right into the video, keep in mind guys. I make these videos for you. I like to it's.
It's an exciting topic. Um so make these videos free for entertainment, and you know to have some fun and also give me your feedback and engage so for me if you could subscribe. I greatly appreciate it like. I said it is tuesday.
I call it into the american express customer service line, i'm not going to say if it was a female or a male or what number i used, but i called onto the american express line and i got the information directly from the source american express. Yes, there will be some changes and some of us will be happy and some of us will not, let's start off with the new card holders. First, the existing card members: i got you guys first into the video, so the biggest thing more one of the biggest things is this 550 annual fee going to about 700 according to the american express representative, and they literally went down a list for me um just Going through, i didn't really ask much of anything to say is this true? Is this true? Is this true? They went down a list for me um, it's going to be 695 starting july 1st. I called in as a new customer asking, should i lock in the rate today or should i wait until july 1st and my conclusion is to probably get the card now get it for 550 for another year and you should be good.
So, yes july 1st, we should definitely be seeing an increase from 550 annual fee to 6.95. As far as the authorized users are concerned, um you it's still going to probably be about the same um, and they told me this as well. This is nothing i asked so for the first three platinum card authorized user accounts, it would be 175 dollars and then for that fourth card on out it would be 175 for each platinum authorized user card. The 200 travel credit is true, um that will be 200 per year per fiscal year january through december, on amextravel.com, through fine hotels and resorts or just regular prepaid bookings, which is a good thing.
I loved that they gave that to us during the pandemic um to kind of get us traveling again, and this is actually going to be a yearly credit. Now, according to the representative from amex the next one, there was a clear credit uh where we're gon na have are we gon na have clear, and if we have clearance, tsa pre-check going to be taken away and, like i said i'll, get to that news as Far as tsa pre-check a little bit later, but as far as the 179 dollar clear credit that is confirmed as well, we will see a dollar clear credit and when i think about that, it really makes me think now. Why do i have the amex green card? I may switch that green card to the gold card, because, if i'm getting clear on this card, probably don't need it unless they take tsa precheck away, which we'll get into in a very a couple minutes. There is a 300 equinox credit that has been confirmed now when i felt very comfortable, because i was really contemplating if i made this video or not, because i could take a lot of heat which i'm cool with. This is how i was pretty confident this was american express um, giving me like yeah this. This is this is american express for sure it's a 300 equinox credit every year january through december, but you know how they do it guys. They will divide it by 12. So it's 25 per month.
No, i think they're, like anywhere between 150 to 500 per month, you're only getting a 25 statement, credit for anything at equinox, so yeah that's been confirmed, but it's been confirmed as 25 increments again, this was just given. The list was given to me from the representative, nothing and i actually asked for specifically so once they broke it down and said 25 i was like yeah. This is pretty much real now for my existing card holders, such as myself, a lot of anxiety for me, i'm thinking about, do i close this card out. This is my favorite travel card.
You give me clear, but i already have it with the green card, and then you take away tsa pre-check global entry, which i love having a combination, so it has been confirmed that we're keeping it now. This is great news. Um now again guys the amex rep told me we are keeping this amex can pull this at any given time. But according to the rep, we are keeping the global entry tsa pre-check, which is amazing.
So i was so happy when the rep said that to me and as far as the 200 airline credit, there was rumors. As far as the 200 travel credit replacing that more good news, we should be keeping that as well, which i am extremely happy for. Then we have the uber credit. This was the last thing i asked about.
We should be keeping that credit as well, so i am happy that just kind of give you all these things and guys. This is all on the list right here and as the rep was talking, i was just writing it down. Writing it down. Writing it down.
Um. I didn't ask about saks fifth avenue or anything like that. I probably missed some things i was just so excited. I'm sure we'll probably keep it, but if not it's okay.
I was forcing myself to buy stuff anyway through saks that i don't need. But i'm happy with this, though i may not get value out of the equinox membership, because i don't live near one. I'm still getting an extra about four hundred dollars per year, uh in credits in the 200 travel credit and the clear credit that makes up for the annual fee, not including all the other things i do on a yearly basis with the platinum card as far as Status matching and all that good stuff, i'm going to the bahamas in a few weeks for only 200 because of this platinum card. So i have no complaints, i'm extremely happy, and if these are 100. True, like i said guys, amex could say: here's a list. Employees of what we're gon na change and then the day of they could change it again, but as of tuesday on the 28th. This is what the rep told me is the truth um. So i am happy to give you guys the news.
What do you guys think is this going to be a thumbs up we're back on board? I know a lot of you guys said if they take away this and that i'm gone um, but that's why i told you guys, let's just hang tight, let's not get too upset, let's just see what's going on, because everything is still rumors until july 1st. If you ask me personally, do you snag this card up right now, of course, if these benefits are to be true and guys, keep in mind, this, is you at your own risk? I would definitely snag it at 550, as opposed to 6.95, that first year, you're still going to get all those benefits, but for a cheaper price more than likely. So i would definitely do it for 550.. It all sounds good on paper. Hotel credit only through hotel collection or fhr so no discounts and they don't have to honor status. Entertainment is 4 useless categories to most ppl. Equinox is a complete joke unless you're already getting it. Clear is only worth if your airport or one you frequent has it
My wife and I was able to get the bonus points of 75k plus any other points we got. We are taking a trip across country, thanks to the amex platinum card, all of the hotels are covered plus we are getting 5 times the points as well. I hoping to see the entertain credit cover like hulu or apple music.

I think the platinum card generally only gives value to a fraction of the people who have it. It can be done but most people don't get the value out of it.
$695 isn't too bad when you factor in the pros. An extra in $145 in annual fees vs the pros.
– A new $200 credit for a pre-paid hotels, which is good for a weekend stay.
– A new $20 per month ($240 annually) entertainment credit, including streaming services.
– $179 for clear annual fee. Great for baseball games in San Francisco.
The entertainment credit alone covers the $145 annual fee increase. The $200 hotel credit is extra if used.
Amex has to find some way to clear up their crowded airport lounges. They might as well increase the annual fee! 🤣
I'm so salty that the Equinox credit is broken down to monthly credits. It would've been 100% easier to use if it was one lump sum or at least broken down biyearly.

I’m still on the fence, don’t want to pay $695 annual fee. As it looks right now I’ll probably let it go and keep the Gold

$200 AMEX Travel Portal
$200 UBER Credit
$100 Saks Credit
$179 Clear Credit
All of these credits have been used in the past year with AMEX pretty easily. (Saks is used for gifts)
= $879.00 in total value.
If they keep the previous credits, I will keep the card.
I hope we can use this $25 Equinox credit to visit their spa. The sister brands of Equinox are: SoulCycle, Pure Yoga, Blink – I wonder if we can use the credit there too! I will find a way to use that credit, Believe me LOL 😂

So are you saying that the Uber, airline incidental, and TSA precheck credits are only kept for current cardholders for the rest of their cardholder year? So it won’t be offered to new cardholders moving forward?

Pro-Tip for your viewers: There is a discount for CLEAR membership if you are a Delta SkyMiles or United MileagePlus member. Even at the non-status level. So even if you all decide not to get the updated Platinum card with the CLEAR credit, there is a way to save. TSA Precheck plus CLEAR is very handy especially for those that travel out of airports where there is a long line for TSA Precheck.

I'm not sure the Global Entry credit is that important – it's only once every 4 years, and there are MANY other cards that have this benefit.
The rumors also included a possible Resy credit and a possible streaming credit. It would be great to get updates on these from some CSR.
I suppose if these things are going into effect July 1 as rumored, we have only to wait 1 day to get the answers.

Pretty lame about the Equinox gym. They do not exist in North Carolina, so that's $300 I wont be able to utilize making that new annual fee harder to swallow.
