Jerome H. Powell, the Federal Reserve chair, faces a challenging moment as inflation proves more durable than policymakers expected.
What to expect from the upcoming Fed meeting. Of course, the Fed decision on Wednesday, that's at 2:00 PM, which is going to be dominating conversations all week. We're also going to be keeping our eyes on retail sales. That's also coming out Wednesday morning. Let's bring in our own Alexandra Semenova for everything we need to know.
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) is a measure of the average change over time in the prices paid by urban consumers for a market basket of consumer goods and services. Indexes are available for the U.S. and various geographic areas. Average price data for select utility, automotive fuel, and food items are also available.

So Netflix reported earnings today and I want to share a couple things that I think everyone should know what's going on. Team and tricky here with techbook Solutions A lot of you guys should know if you don't know. Uh, this is the first week of earnings reports, right? So for companies that are publicly traded, they're reporting quarterly earnings. Most of these companies are reporting Q4 earnings for 2022 meaning that now that that quarter is complete, these companies report how they performed based off of Market expectation and what they actually and how they actually performed.

So Netflix had earnings today and if you guys pay attention to its normal trading hour of a loss of 3.23 but I mean most of that sell-off actually happened right before the report was released right? and then the report was released and at the peak it has a 345 but overall it's still up 6.78 Now Is this a good or a bad thing? One of the things I want you guys to know is this is actually all available at you know you guys can Google search this Netflix investors and you guys can download their quarterly earning reports for Q4 of 2022 so you can do your own due diligence right? Our goal here always on my YouTube channels to encourage you to do to be self-sufficient but I want to at least share specific reasons on why it performed better than expected, right? Because if you actually look at what was reported for its quarterly earnings, so let me go ahead and pull it up real quick if you look at the actual expectation. I Mean it didn't beat its expectation for Revenue If anything, it matched it. and then the expectation for earnings per share was actually a miss. So one of the things that I wanted to cover it's their earnings per share was 12 cents versus 45 cents and the revenue was 7 0.85 billion with the expectation of 7.85 billion.

So again, that is pretty much just mainstream. So me at expectation with Revenue its earnings per share was a really big Miss So why is it that it gapped up right? Let me explain. Netflix Obviously because they're a subscriber based platform, they always look at well how many new subscribers were added? Netflix and Q4 Let me go ahead and pull this up real quick. Netflix Added 7.66 million paid subscribers during the fourth quarter of 2022.

that is more than 4.57 million than Wall Street Expected. That is why Netflix gapped up because it's not about what they made that quarter, but it's because of all that subscriber growth and how they can you know Netflix has an expectation for Q1 of 2023 I'm not sure if any of you are Netflix users, but I am um and they told us I'm sure a lot of you guys have seen those memes or those news posts of like Netflix will now start to charge you more if more than one person is actually using uh, their account and they're going to start running ads and stuff like that just like many others. Um, you know online streaming applications Netflix is one of the last Uh, Netflix Uh or streaming platforms that is actually jumping on that Trend Uh So with subscriber growth and being able to monetize based off of new ads and then on top of that being able to charge you know the same account more than just once based off of how many users obviously gaining more subscribers for Q4 is way better than expected and it justifies this Gap up. Also, one of the things that they introduced uh was introducing the Founders moving into executive chairs and then the new co-ceo for Netflix.
So that was all announced also in the not just the reports but as well as the set expectations. This is one thing that a lot of people that are just getting started do not understand. The earnings report is part of the reaction. The second thing is the guidance of what is actually said during the earnings call.

Now, not every company has an earnings cost, but a lot of them do. And during these earnings calls, it could sometimes be the CEO that jumps on the call and explains what exactly happened in Q4 Good or bad if things are bound to get worse, or if they're set to get better, right? changes that are happening internally. This is all explained in that earnings ground. You can see why.

there can be like a second wave sometimes of these actual um, what's it called earning calls because of how valuable they actually are And the reason I'm sharing this with you is I'm just using Netflix as an example today. But do you know what companies report earnings next week? I Want to show you this right? So I use the Weibull trading application and they make it super easy for you to stay up to date with this. If you guys want to download this Weeble trading application, it's the one that I used to trade every single day. It's the fifth Link in the description down below.

If you use my link and you deposit 100, you will earn up to 12 free shares just by using my link. If you don't use my link, I think you'll earn five or I'm sorry two free shares. Uh, but you go right under calendar, right under earnings and all you do is you select the date that you want to look into. So I'm selecting the 25th of January and as you guys can see again, I Don't know if you've ever heard of this company but it's called Tesla right? or this one Atnt right? I Don't know if you've ever heard of those two companies.

Those companies report earnings next week and then bigger Tech reports earnings the week after I Don't know if you've heard about about them apple and Amazon and Google or their mother company alphabet. The reason I'm sharing this with you is because, well, if those companies report earnings right, we all saw how Netflix moved the market a little bit right? Netflix has relatively a pretty small market cap, right if you're looking at the market cap 140 billion. But when you're talking about Google's if you're talking about Apples. and if you're talking about Facebook and Tesla those are the big movers, right? And now is the time to prepare, right? It's not that you need to freak out, it's I want I just want you to be aware, right? So if it's this video that makes you aware of like, hey, quarterly earnings are about to be released for a lot of these companies that I'm invested in, you can begin to learn more about, well, well, what is market expectation for their earnings per share? What's Market expectation for their revenue? How can I better prepare for this is my position.
too heavy or should I lighten up is my position so too light or should I add more right? You want to ask those questions in advance and that's all this video is for I Wanted to use Netflix as an example and what to look for, right? I For the most popular for the more popular earning reports, I will most likely be live streaming them. It doesn't make any sense, they added over 7mil subscribers but the earnings didn't out perform. How does that make any sense.

Really overpriced stock. 30 PE for a company growing at 8% is awful. Very poor future growth and you are paying way too much for those future dollars.

Their subs went up cause of free Netflix with advertising. Streams cost money regardless of their fee. So the subs went up and their earnings went down. They need ad rev for this and it will struggle to cover the distribution costs and still make a profit on those subs.
