We were told to go to school, get a college degree and get a well-paying job and then just live happily ever after well, i think we both know the reality is far from that hello. My name is jay aka humboldt trader. Yes, before day trading, i had a real job in this video i'll, be telling you the story of why i quit my six figure job to day trade and, most importantly, how i prepared for this big transition. So, if you're, considering to quit your job one day to become a full-time day, trader, make sure to keep on watching and don't forget to drop a like for every single resentment.

You have about your job because, oh boy, am i gon na spill the beans here? I graduated college with a degree in film and vfx. My dream was to create 3d computer-generated films. Like the hollywood blockbusters, you see nowadays marvel's superhero movies, harry potter, lord of the rings, or completely animated films. Like pixar's toy story, i thought my life would be fulfilled if i could one day get my name on the movie end credits.

This will be the height of my career, a pinnacle moment for my life that i will forever tell my grandchildren about and boy was. I wrong after i graduated college and started working in film and vfx. That's when the big disappointment dawned on me - and here comes the first reason i quit my job to day trade passion alone isn't going to pay the bills. Many creative industries like graphic design, architecture, ux design and vfx included underpay their artists and here's the reasoning you are working on this project because of your passion for film and animation.

This is an incredible once in a lifetime opportunity for you to work with a global team of talented artists and together you will create stories that will shape generations to come and that's the reason we're paying you 20 an hour you're welcome. When i worked in the industry, that's the one line i hate the most was i skilled and talented? Yes, absolutely was i passionate about film industry and the creative industry? Yes, absolutely, but guess what passion alone isn't going to pay for the bills? If anything, i think the artist should get paid even more for being so passionate about this craft. On top of that, many artists in the vfx industry had to take out six-figure student loans to enroll in college, to pursue this dream and pursue this passion for their industry. How is it possible that we have hollywood blockbusters that make millions of dollars? In the first week of box office, we see producers walking away with bonuses and actors getting paid fat paychecks, but the thousands of artists doing the heavy lifting working behind the scenes.

Creating those memorable stories and stunning visuals have to live paycheck to paycheck the vfx artists, the animators, modelers designers, surface artists. They are truly the foundation of what make up the modern movies without them. Your movies will look like this, yet these people are always worried about whether they will have a job in two weeks, which is something i'm going to talk about in the later parts of the video. Don't worry, the juice is going to get juicier, there's been so many times in the past, where i see studios paying some incredibly talented artists, often freshgrads minimum wage or i'll, see my friends getting paid as a mid-level artist.
By having to take on responsibilities as a senior level or a supervisor all because the studios didn't want to give them the official title that deserves a big race, so think about this. How can you not feel so disheartened when the industry, you loved and you spent years of your lives, devoted to doesn't love you back? The second reason i decided to quit my job to day trade is because of the lack of security working in this industry. To sum it up, artists are treated as disposable articles rather than valuable human resources that lift up the entire industry. Full-Time permanent positions are very hard to come by in the film and vfx industry.

Everything is based on short term contracts, such as 3 months or 6 months. I've even done contracts as short as 2 weeks, since most vfx artists are on short term contracts. That means the studios could easily let them go and in between the contracts, the orders often have to go on weeks or months of break without pay. This situation created a vicious cycle of unstable income.

I was constantly worried about whether i'll have another job lined up in a couple of weeks and a lot of times. The artists are constantly on the move in order to chase after the next job. This was the reason i moved from los angeles back to vancouver and i've moved between plenty of cities in the united states before and i still know friends who are constantly on the move every other year chasing the next job in vancouver from l.a to montreal, to Austin to london and sydney, it's no wonder the divorce rate in the industry is so high. Let's be real.

The last thing you want to do after going home from a long week in a dark, dark studio, is to do your dishes and take out the trash. I'm just saying this for friend you know the third reason i quit my job to day. Trade is because the lack of meaning i get for my job at first when i started working the dark offices with no windows looked really edgy. The long hours during the week sounds like a great team building experience and the overtime on the weekends.

Well, that sounds like a great opportunity for me to pay off my student loans faster, how cute after a while, i no longer found what i was doing day in and day out meaningful or serve any purpose. You could say i was jaded about this industry, but after all i've described to you earlier about this industry. Would you be that surprised that an overwhelming amount of vfx artists all eventually feel the same way? I remember one of the last major productions i worked on. I was surfacing a very minor prop and this little prop went through.
I kid you not 37 revisions, and this was an extremely busy film production. It had like 10 other more important environments to model and surface from the amount of time i had to spend on this little prop. You would expect this thing to be very prominent on the big screens, like the one true ring on the lord of the rings or the dragon's egg in game of thrones, but guess what happened to this little prop. It ended up on a shelf behind a dusty glass, and maybe you will see like two pixels of it on the screen.

I remember, while sitting there in a windowless studio, just one of the many artists doing the same thing. Thinking is this job really worth. It is this really why i went through four years of college four. What is the purpose of this? Where is the creativity just so another big studio? Can roll out more merchandise and sell millions of toys to kids in the theme parks? Is this it? On top of that, the vfx industry is notorious for gender discrimination and workplace harassment.

Unfortunately, i've had a few unpleasant instances happened to me myself and i had to see my female colleagues and friends experience the same thing and hr did absolutely nothing. Well, i can't say nothing because they did the bare minimum to cover the company's ass. You know the courtesy one-on-one meetings and note-taking and then just crickets. All these experiences led me down the path of rethinking the purpose of working.

Did this job have any meaning? And even if it did, was it really worth it at the expense of my mental and physical health? I've talked about this on this channel. Before that, my right arm is. I have tendonitis and that's a direct result of working long hours in vfx and that's not it because of all these toxic things happening at work. I developed a severe anxiety attack.

There was a period of a couple of months where i would wake up in the middle of the night, with hives all over my body. You see, i didn't quit my job to day trade, for the simple reason that the job didn't pay me enough. Sure all the extra overtime and all that stuff, probably added up to a hundred thousand dollars a year. I quit because i remember near the end of my career in vfx - i've never made so much money and be so miserable and unhealthy at the same time.

So now that you know my story, let me tell you how i prepared for this big transition to quit my job to start day trading full time pretty much throughout my entire time, working in vfx, i had been day trading part time at first. It was just a way for me to supplement my income, especially during the weeks or months in between the contracts. Then, as the years go by, i grew increasingly frustrated about my full-time job in vfx. That's when i realized hey this day trading this little site, hustle passion, project of mine could eventually be my back door out.
Yes, you could argue that trading is equally stressful, whether the income is just as unstable, but that is to be expected the first year. That's the reason i always stress on this channel. Please start with paper trading, then, when going live, risk small amounts of money first, like 10, 20 or 50 dollars, make sure to check out my video called how to start stay trading as a beginner in 2021 to learn how to get started and take these initial Losses as market tuition, we all start out losing, but you can choose how much you want to lose as a beginner and, most importantly, don't quit your job right away. You need a job to pay for your bills and, of course, the market's tuition.

That was the mindset for me as i go into trading part time and thanks to my job in vfx, i was able to refund all the small accounts i lost and that's what kept me going as i started: learning testing out new strategies, risk management and improved. My discipline over time since i lived on the west coast, i would wake up at 4 30 to 5 a.m, every day to do pre-market planning. This is still something i do till this day and i will trade from 6 30. My local time market open all the way to about 8 to 8 30., and sometimes if the market is really hot, there's a lot of stocks flying around.

I would show up to work late, like 10 or 10. 30 am just sneaking in from the back door. You know i'm not suggesting you should go to work late, but if you do shh, just don't get caught just like trading itself. This big transition required a lot of planning and hard work well in advance to make sure i had enough financial runway.

So i didn't end up on the streets. I budgeted and saved up one year of living expenses and i make sure that money is outside of my trading account, so i don't have to worry about using the profits to pay for the bills right away. As i went full time into day trading, that would be an immense amount of pressure, because whether i worked hard or slacked off during my 9 to 7 job, i'm guaranteed a paycheck at the end of the day, i'm never at the risk of losing money. Just the risk of losing my soul, so if you're thinking of quitting your job to day trade full time, please make sure you have at least 6 to 12 months of generous living expenses outside of your trading account.

I cannot stress this enough. I had some of the darkest and most unhealthy time of my life when i was working in vfx now, i feel so incredibly blessed to be able to have day trading, be my back door out of this terrible career. Many of my friends and family nowadays they'll, ask me if i felt, like i threw away four years of a college degree and a passion i once had. No, i don't think so.

I think my vfx career and education were very necessary steps, leading me to where i am today, if it weren't for the inconsistent vfx contracts and breaks in between, i wouldn't have picked up day trading as a way to supplement my income if it weren't for the Toxic work environment, i wouldn't have the motivation to start taking trading seriously and planning to go full time. And lastly, if it weren't for the film production skills, i learned as a vfx artist. I wouldn't have started this youtube channel as a creative outlet. For my bad jokes, all the struggles from my former career, the emotional and physical trauma they may have seemed meaningless at the time.
But adults in your lives only connect looking backwards. So to all my former bosses, who didn't want to extend my contracts or to give me a 2 000 raise or wouldn't approve my revisions for like the 30th time, i'm extremely grateful today. Well, actually, my right arm still hurts a lot today, so i'm gon na need your help with smashing those like buttons. If you enjoy the video and hearing my story, please remember to drop a like and subscribe if you want to see more day trading content in the future.

Thank you guys so much for watching. As always, i'm the humble trader and i'll see you guys next time. You.

Just found your channel today. I became interested in options trading about 2 weeks ago and have been studying, watching lots of YouTube videos and testing using paper money. So happy I found your channel! You tell it straight without bull#%*& and you’re funny too!
I know I have a lot to learn still, which is why I will be watching ALL your videos and why I just subscribed to your channel. Thank you for the great (and entertaining) content!

great story, but you left out one important feature being in the movie industry. Once the project ends, you do qualify for unemployment.

I'm very disappointed in the education system too. The lie that was told is that a bachelor degree will raise your average salary. I can make more money by taking a side sales job and starting my own business (neither requires a college degree). Instead of going down the traditional hourly wage/salary route.

I had excruciating, career-ending tendonitis which my PT cured in 3 days with this one simple trick. With your arms at your side, lift your forearm so that your elbow is at 90˚. Let your wrist hang limp also at 90˚. Touch your thumb & forefinger together. Now vigorously shake your hand up & down (while keeping your elbow stationary at 90˚). Do this for one minute, 3 times per day.

I didn't believe it would work and it felt ridiculous but I was pain-free in 3 days.

I got confused because you were talking like the VFX job was underpaid (you mentioned "$20/hour"), but the video title says "$100k job." Maybe I missed something haha

Why don't you start a second channel and feature some of the VFX skills you got? I would love to see your work. Instead of doing it for the big budget movies you could do it for us on Youtube who would appreciate it more and give you the credit you deserve for your skills. Take your time and think it over ok. Great Video.

What movies did you work on and do you have an IMDB page? The image you showed in your video is to e move Star Trek: Into Darkness (a movie you did not work on). Any reason you keep saying you were a visual artist but offer no references?

2020 I found Shay’s videos, swing trading, covered call options and high return dividend stocks, and haven’t looked back. Monthly income from this is my gravy money.

I Took early retirement (for a second time) and invested $80k from the last year of my government contractor job to invest. that has now grown to $197k in 19 months. This is my small self-managed side hustle, not my primary retirement accounts. I love the freedom.

I've been more or less investing full time since this pandemic begun because I feel like I'm imprisoned by policies but I want to get back to my work which involves meeting people face to face all over the world. The reason is that I am not getting new SOLID contacts by being at home trading. Zoom and social media contacts are low quality to me. Yes, I'm making good money but to me our future wealth will depend on how many trust relationships we have with others. To gain trust, you need to spend time with people, eat with them, get to know them and have true social interactions. I think she will change her mind in a few years because simply making money is boring. Those who already have money will know what I am saying.

I graduated in 2008 and you know the scenario then(No Job). I was very passionate about becoming lighting and rendering artist as I was very passionate about photography. Eventually I moved back to India and there was not much for me here in 3D Industry so I picked up my another passion i.e Architectural Photography. Have spent long time in the profession but can not get out of struggling mode. No Growth can be seen in near future.

<<<<<<Very informative video that you have here, if there is something I have learned in recent months it is to stay calm, especially when it comes to investing in cryptocurrencies. Learn not to panic when things go wrong and not to buy euphoria when things go up. I advise everyone to forget about the predictions and start making good profits now because future valuations are all speculation and guesswork. The market is very unstable and you cannot tell if it is turning bearish or bullish. While others and I trade without fear of losing, others are being patient for the price to skyrocket. It all depends on the pattern you follow. I was able to make 8.5 BTC from 2.4 BTC in just a few months after implementing trades with tips and information from Ewan Cormac …
