You know what is going on. You guys welcome back to another video, so in this video we're actually gon na be talking about a credit card issuer that I normally don't speak about on this channel bum ba-bum ba-bum. So in today's video we're gon na cover three topics: one is: is city actually worth it or when are the situations applicable when city could be worth its you users? There are certain situations where city can be advantageous, but in most general situations, you're not gon na find too much value from them, but we're gon na go over exactly the times and during the periods in your credit card journey, when you could find a lot of Value with them now another thing we're gon na cover in this video is whether they're just complete trash or, if they're, not a lot of people have this impression that they're either really bad or they're. Just an okay they're, just mad now, like I mentioned earlier, is City worth.

This is a question that a lot of people have and just to start out just to make it easier. This is gon na be dependent on the situation that you are in because they are a credit card. There are still advantages of using this card compared to your traditional debit card. If we came down to the choice where it's City versus any traditional debit card, I would actually say it's not too bad going with City now, one of the things that people often overlook with these credit cards are the benefits that come with it now, because city Is more geared towards subprime consumers, which means consumers who generally have lower credit scores? They often don't provide the same benefits that you would get with our other credit card issuers.

Now they actually did do this in the past because they have some of their own higher tier luxury cards, but what they did was they actually stripped a lot of those cards benefits. Now I found a really good post in the reddit community that I'm just gon na go over right here, real quick, so in this reddit community. Here's what the forum says city is slashing benefits that most people in the general public don't care about. You have to remember this sub is skewed where people who pay attention to these things, most don't City, obviously decided it was worth cutting the benefits and pissing off a small minority that minority are gon na, be people that are viewing videos just like this to continue.

This post, it states a city, obviously decided it was worth cutting the benefits and pissing off a small minority. They're just saving themselves money by not offering benefits, not saying it's good news, but unfortunately, mostly the only people heavily using benefits like price rewind are the ones abusing them now. This goes back into the whole idea of people who actually use these benefits. The way that they're supposed to be used or people who just abuse them and take advantage of things like price, rewind or price match or say you lost an item when you actually didn't people who often abuse these type of rewards and benefits that the credit card Issuers do provide for us end up ruining these things now to continue down.
It says if you want a city card because of the rewards offered get it perks like price protection, are going away on most cards out there anyways not unique to City. Now the question that comes into mind is: why are credit card issuers doing this and it's a very simple answer: they are taking away benefits for US consumers just so they can save themselves more money if they realize that they can strip these benefits. But a majority of their audience will still hold that certain credit card and it won't really affect who their main audience or target demographic is. Then I don't really see them having an issue with saving money, so these are the things that may just affect people like us, like I stated before, but if we look at it in terms of a long-term game plan, there are other credit card companies that we Can go with city has just always focused on more of that subprime audience that they have done since the beginning of time.

Okay, so a city trash. What do you guys think, I honestly don't think they're complete trash, I think they're, just they're, okay, they're they're, just I you know they're they're in that category, where it's not the best card, but it's not the worst, and I would still consider it in the situation Where I'm in a very early game mode, where no other credit card issuer is taking me and I would go for a basic card like the city double cash card, I do see people still getting a lot of benefit from that card. You get 2 % back on everything its cash back. You don't have to worry about points, it's a very straightforward card and as long as you pay off the full bounce, you're good you're straight, you still get a free 2 % back on all your purchases.

Now keep in mind, this is a universal thing. If you miss any payments with any credit card issuers, you're gon na feel a sting if you're not getting that intro APR bonus, but for the most part from what I've heard. If you miss a payment with Citi, it's not just gon na be a sting. It's gon na be a punch to your face and you're gon na feel it doing a lot of research online and just hearing other people's thoughts and going through other consumer reviews.

I've heard from multiple sources at Citibank, if you, if you put like an Asian accent to Citibank, they are actually known as shitty bank to most other people. There is a good reason for that. It's not just because they are a subprime lender. They are literally known to have a bad customer support where people go out their way, just to call them shitty bank now other than using citi bank cards.

Just in the early stages of your credit card journey, I do find that people can get value towards the late game, especially once you've applied for most of the cards out there, you've applied for your business cards or chase your American Express. You got your Capital One. It's not a bad idea to go into cities, because there is a limited amount of credit cards that you guys can get. Most people, I would say within three to five years, will find themselves getting most of the credit cards that are available on the market and at some point they still do offer you value with the welcome bonuses.
Where you spend X, amount, get X, amount back and they still offer you points. They have thank-you points they're not worth that much, but it's still something and it's better than nothing. Now guys. This was just my complete opinion on city.

They may be a great Bank, maybe some of you guys have had really good experiences with them now guys. This is just my personal opinion. What I say may be different from yours. This is just some of the stuff that I've read online, and this is just some of my own personal bias that I've had from my family members holding city cards and some of their experiences with it.

I want to hear your guys's thoughts. Do you guys ever think city could compete with chaser American Express? Do you think they would ever move into the audience of maybe the viewers that are watching this type of video, where maybe in the near future, we do use our city credit cards as our main daily driver? Now guys, I want to hear your guys thoughts below. Have you had any personal, bad experiences with city or have you had good experiences with them? Let me know down below in the comment section and also let the community know down below as well, and if you guys want to support the channel, make sure you guys check out the links down below. But thank you guys so much for tuning by and I hope I see you guys in the next one but peace so so in this reddit community.

How long do you have to wait for a CLI from Citibank after opening a card

you are joking. Citi has good billing reminders. never had any issues

Citi and Discover are the only issuers that have a regard for my name. Capital One, butchers it. Amex has chopped my name to the point were only letters can read as my name. Chase? I don't even want to talk about how my name reads on the "Pre-qualified" letters, I just want to poke my eyes out when the recipient's name is read and they infer that that is me.

The welcome bonus of Citi premier/aa/prestige is good and that is enough…..You can always product change to double cash after one year.

I truly am disgusted with Citibank. My very first credit card 25+ years ago was a Sears store card. I had that card for about 10 years and it got "upgraded" to a Citibank Sears Mastercard that I used regularly. Well, lo and behold, the "Great Recession" of 2008 came along and I got a "goodbye" letter from Citibank/closing my account without any notice. I was SO furious as it was my oldest card. I firmly believe that credit card companies should NOT be allowed to close your account unless you are in default – I think it is okay to cut credit line but NOT close the account. They owe us that much because it can really EXTREMELY impact one's credit (took so much off of my credit history for something that I was NOT responsible for in any way – did not go speculating on properties and sign any of those loans that got the whole world in trouble at the time – but I paid for it in some way by getting my credit card taken away from me.) That was 10+ years ago but I still feel my blood boil a bit when I see an advertisement for Citibank. And until Costco changes their relationship I would NEVER get the Costco Citibank Visa for that reason – I don't care what promos they have.

Someone got a hold of my information and applied for a Citi card. The amounts deopsited into my account were approved and now I can't cancel it. They tried removing 400 from my account but thankfully were not able to do so with insufficient funds. I have no idea how to get rid of this

Citi Premier earns enough points for a family of 4 to fly round trip to hawaii.

Citi AA cards can get you an east almost 200k AA miles which are very valuable.

Getting Citi After chase and before amex is the typical strategy for maximizing sign up bonuses.

As long as you never travel, or use your card you shouldn't have any problem. The moment you start doing anything besides going to walmart they'll block your card, if you leave the state they'll block your card, if you have an 'abnormal' transaction they'll block your card under the guise of it being 'security'. Or in my case they'll reassign you a 'new' card they chose to change you to, not send it, then when you say they didn't send the card they cancelled my card, not sending the card they promised. Then tell me they have to re-run your credit to reissue the active card you already have lol, what a bunch of shit. I'll be first in line when the class action lawsuit comes, I might even start it.

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars howyoudurrinhunneh says:

I have the 2% cash back and it's not quite the same as Cap1, the only other reward card I have ever owned.

    1% at purchase
    1% when you pay
Minimum of $25 in rewards before you can cash out

Always irked me in comparison, that I got my 1.5% back with Cap1 a day or 2 after charge cleared. So I never have to pay the money I just take it off my balance and then pay a few days after that.

Now that all of my cards have a zero balance I'm thinking about putting all of my auto pays on Citi and my wireless bill and getting that $25 every 5 or 6 months. Less exciting but more money earned.

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars K Schuman says:

Citi seems currently to get an F grade from the BBB. I would think it's pretty difficult, even for a bank, to achieve this distinction. They must really be making strenuous efforts to treat customers badly! BBB notes that the "F" is for non-responsiveness to BBB consumer complaints and 2018 lawsuit brought by many US states alleging Citi fraudulently manipulated the value of a benchmark used to determine lending rates.

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Serf Ally says:

Citi is threatening people with fines, credit downgrades, during COVID19.
Complaints are 40% higher than other banks according to government tracking agency

Citibank is horrible. I went to Europe and informed them I was going because it was the card I used. I told them when I was going and when I was coming back. About 3 weeks after I came back fraudulent charges showed up on the credit card. They will never have me as a customer ever again.

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars J B says:

I have to disagree with you again Brian. Citi isn't trash about as good as BOA & WF. Im not saying top tier like Amex or Chase but they're better than Cap1& Discover. We all know your into Chase Business Card and everything Amex but you can't dog every other issuer.
