We have to talk about trading psychology because there's a challenge that a lot of people have and and this may relate to you where you've been. If you've been trading for a little while, you have bigger losers on average than your winners. So let's just say, for example, your average winners are like a hundred bucks, but your average losers are 200 and you're like man. I Cannot break out of this cycle.
Why does this keep happening often? This is the result of fear in your trading. What happens is you're selling your winners too soon and you're holding your Los too long. quite simply. But the reason that we do that and I'm guilty of this I've done it myself is because of fear.
when I have a winner I'm afraid of losing it and so the best way to alleviate that fear is to press the sell button and lock it up. even if I'm only up. you know, 3% or 4% But I didn't even achieve the full profit potential of the trade and maybe it ends up going higher. but I sold too soon and worse.
Maybe I get back in higher and then lose.

Happened to me today. Quite fatal risk management fail.
Despite the fact that I'm improving.. I had a huge loss today. And so week before.
And it's exactly because of this. And of course, overtrading and having generally no strategy with stocks.
I mean, so far, shorting stocks that are losers is generally safer than buying.
The big ouch though, it the buy price spike that does not reflect anything on chart.
True,
in addition, when I lose, I keep it longer hoping itโll go back high and keeps going down and I end up losing more
Thanks. This is also the central idea of Tom Hougaard book
U right
Ross I am a new follower, do you long only or so you go short as well?
But you know what, i make a whole lot more taking 1%-3% profits early, and often. Ill do where i take 5 early and let the sixth one run a bit above my comfort zone.
I do this to often myself. My thing is my position size seems to always be to small on my winners and to big on my losers. I donโt average down generally either.
You are so right. Happens to me all the time. Thanks man
Sell half breakeven if it gets back up to entry.
This was me the first time I started daytrading!!! The biggest thing that helped me was my account is substantially larger this time and i trade with a small percentage of it. I dont "NEED" the money im trading with! Although its still brutal loosing it, it mentally doesn't wreck you! After 2 years and im STILL LEARNING EVERY DAY!
This is insane, happens same with me, what is solution Ross?
the problem is easy to fix, but right when you fix it another comes up, the winners will continuoslly fall from the point where you usually got out for a profit and verry verry i mean veryy rarelly you will have a runner and even that one wont compenstate for all the paper cuts that you took just to have small loosers, probablly this game is just for the lucky ones in general in life cuz i dont see any way , wont quit but for sure i lost all my hope
Spot on
Excellent analysis. I have been struggling with this problem for a while.
Right here. โ๐ป
