Merry christmas, everybody, this is tom and i just want to tell you a little story. This is from a book that was written in 1964. It's called the giving tree and in this book you have a kid that comes to play around the tree and he enjoys the tree and the tree loves him. They speak to each other.
He hangs off the branches, it's an apple tree, so he eats the apples and he hangs out at the tree every single day and they have a blast. Then the kid grabs a little bit and he becomes a teenager. So he doesn't come off that often eventually carves his name in the tree. The tree doesn't mind every once in a while.
He shows up and then he brings his girlfriend. He carries the name of the girlfriend in the tree, but then he goes away for a long. Ass time comes back and says that the tree well, i'm already like holder, and i need some money to build a house for me and my wife. So can i cut off your branches and then the tree says fine, i'm happy, i'm happy to give it to you and he cuts off the branches of the tree.
He builds a house goes away, comes back after 20 years, basically saying well, i'm an old man right now. I just want to sail around the world and you know see the world. Can i cut off and the rest of you and build a boat for myself and the tree says fine, so the tree is basically down to a stump. After a few years the man comes back and he's old and the tree says.
Well, i ain't got nothing to give you anymore, i'm nothing, but a stump and the man says. Well, i don't want nothing anymore, i'm just old. I just want to sit down and rest and they both sit down and for the first time in a long time they were happy. So when i tell the story, i get the shivers to be honest, you can't see it, but it's real.
For me. It's a very it's a very moving story because it does a very real thing and we tend to chase money and whatever right in front of us and wealth, and you know, brands, shoes, cars, but when you're gon na be that old man. None of that ain't gon na matter, the only thing that matters is the relationships you build and the family that you love and loves you and the stuff that can't be monetized health relationships, love all that can't be monetized can be bought, can't be sold. It's the only thing, that's going to matter when it comes down to it.
So i think christmas is a really good time to remember how important those things are and while it's important to you know, chase success and and money and fine, but they those things are just the means to an end. The end is just being happy and loving. Your loved ones and enjoying the things in life, you can't buy simple as that, so you know this christmas. I want you to give a hug to your loved ones, make sure you tell them you love them and mean it and just enjoy the christmas spirit.
Just stop the rat race for a minute and appreciate what's important in life now, for you cynics who think this was like. You know tom being a cynical or not i'm being real here, and i hope this message finds you well and happy and healthy, and i wish nothing but love for you and your loved ones and i'll see you tomorrow with another crazy video about the stock market. I have a crazy christmas day special for you, we're gon na see a tesla model is getting blown up, it's going to be insane and you have to wait till tomorrow. Then today we're staying on this story. .
Dude why did you delete that video of Elon sold all his shares?
Very well said Tom. Merry Christmas and god bless your family…
Iโve realized this in the last year more than ever.. Appreciate your loved ones. โค๏ธ
Beautiful, thanks Tom for this story and sentiments. Best to you too brother.
I knew you were the real deal for finance when I saw you actually use a DCF. Now I appreciate that you are the real deal as a person of integrity. Happy holidays!
There's nothing more important than your health in life. Without it you have nothing. Invest in your health every day and you will reap the rewards in later life!
Dude I wish I could chat with you about all this…I feel like we would have a lot to talk about.
Nice. Fables can teach us a lot about true value.
The Next Emperor
As the Emperor was getting old, and had no children, he called together the children of all his courtiers and gave them each a seed. He told them, โWhoever grows the best flower will be the next Emperor.โ
The children all took their seeds home, planted them, and watched over them carefully. The son of the chief gardener thought he had a good chance of winning, as he knew just what to do, but the weeks went by and his seed failed even to sprout. At school, the other children boasted about how well their plants were doing, but he just kept quiet.
He tried everything, changing the soil, keeping the pot warm or cool, but as the day approached for judging, he had no result at all. On the final day, when all the children had to take their flowers to show to the Emperor, he was so disappointed and ashamed that he didnโt want to go at all. His father encouraged him, โNever mind. You have done your best. Take it anyway.โ So, very reluctantly, he took his empty pot to the Emperorโs court.
When he arrived there, all of the other children had flowers and plants. He just hid his empty pot, and talked to no one. He stayed right at the back as all the other children went up to show their flowers to the Emperor. The Emperor looked at each flower in turn, but never even smiled. At last, all the children except the gardenerโs son had shown their flowers, and the Emperor called him: โCome, please show me what you have grown.โ Trembling with fear, thinking that everyone would laugh at him, he took his empty pot out of his bag, and covering it with his hands, took it to the Emperor.
The Emperor took one look, and smiled. โAh! You have won the competition. You will be the next Emperor.โ
The gardenerโs son could not believe his ears. โWhy have I won? My seed didnโt even sprout, and all the other children had beautiful flowers.โ
Then the Emperor spoke to all of the children, โBefore I gave out the seeds, I had them boiled. That is why they would not grow. All of you, except for the gardenerโs son, threw away the seed that I gave you, and put another in its place. Only this boy was honest enough to keep trying with the seed that I gave him. Therefore, he is the only one suitable to be the next Emperor.โ
Shel Silverstein. I remember reading his book โwhere the side walk endsโ as a child.
very philosophical tom very deep money cant buy me love have a good one
Through all the brilliant/analytical videos you've posted through the few years I've watched you, this video was my favorite. Couldn't agree more with your perspective. Money cannot buy time, happiness, health, or relationships… that comes from within.
The Merriest of Christmases and Happiest of Holidays to and yours, Tom!

Chin up, you help so many of us with your open and frank podcasts. Thank you ๐
Well said. I moved to an island in the middle of no where 10 years ago. My house is under 1,000 Sq feet. I live in flip flops, shorts and t shirts. Mostly bought at a second hand store. At 59, I'm happy to say that I saved early and often…. And I have enough. Good friends and family are the more important than physical possessions.
Merry Christmas to you and yours and thanks for the great message!
