With Tesla's Battery Investor Day approaching very soon, Tesla has been filing plenty of patents related to new battery technology. Recently, on April 24th, Tesla filed a patent for an electrode consisting of nickel, cobalt, and aluminum, also known as NCA. In this video, I discuss how Tesla's new battery breakthrough will impact Tesla in the future.

Secret battery video should include no vehicle riding movies, just technical stuff and some graphical aids 😉
NCA and NMC are profitable for Tesla. Dont use advance battery, you will not have profit from it
"Secret battery breakthrough"…..discussed by a back water YouTube channel
I don't think they will shut off Panasonic anytime soon. Currently, they use every battery cell they can get, so they need to scale it first. This is going to take some time. I think they will continue to work well together with Panasonic at least for some years – also Tesla has a contract with Panasonic to buy certain cell volumes from them. So it's not like they could just ditch them. And their cells are not exactly bad either – they currently are better than just about everything anyone else has to offer (which is in part due to Tesla continuously improving the chemistry but still).
They basically made Dilithium Crystals, now they just have to make the Enterprise.
Great factual video. Thanks. However, the guy's voice is not so pleasant to listen to.
Fast charge times, range and cost are the key to mass market appeal. Battery technology is like early computer technology, changing every 6 months. Today's Tesla's will be useless in 10 years.
The few channels that talk about the jeff dahn related research already said this is for a single crystal electrode that will easily do over milllion miles at the same capacity.
Tesla’s technology is top notch, industry benchmark indeed. However, it’s exterior/interior aesthetics is horrendous. Elon must replace the head designer, before he produces more ugly looking vehicles.
But NCA Positive Electrode has been around us for pretty long time, right? I think I read a lot of company reports on NCA research and production.
store your energy in the form of hydrogen, more bang for the buck
I think that this chemistry might be good for the semi but not for regular cars. Elon said he is trying to reduce the amount of cobalt in batteries to make them cheaper. I have not heard of any use of cobalt in the highly speculated Maxwell battery.
Personally I don’t see the big deal with solid state batteries. The electrolyte helps with thermal transfer so why would we want to remove it?
However it’s a great shame that cobalt has not been removed from the battery chemistry.
What if you already have a Tesla, could you upgrade the battery in the future?
Battery breakthrough is one thing. Knowing how to properly build cars is another. And Tesla sucks at the latter. And if the company doesn't get its act together and begin to produce better quality cars, it will be filing for bankruptcy within a few years, once other electric start-ups (like Lucid air, Byton, Rivian, Nio and Xpeng), as well as legacy automakers, join in and are firmly established in the EV industry. Porsche has already outdone Tesla in some ways with the Taycan. XPeng seems to be taking a better approach than Tesla, with regards to FSD. Tesla will be doomed, if it doesn't do better.
Was hoping they'd innovated a way to not need cobalt yet achieve a higher efficiency, can always hope for the future
No matter what they do. We can for sure to learn they will announce the 400+ miles model 3!!! You can verify this in in Tesla Chinese website. They have updated model 3 and model S. They all have 660 km of range. Just go check the website on yourself
Good job, well researched. I am hoping for 20% energy density increase. I know it is not likely to happen. Would be nice if they can make it last , develop a solid electrolyte, and take charge rapidly.
Tesla staying on top of the patents! So much growth potential 🚀📈😎
Panasonic is not going to be happy. Now to just secure the materials…will Tesla purchase mines next?
Nice it will be great when Tesla own's it's battery tech
I really hope something like this does get announced at battery day. Right now most of the people I talk to who are apprehensive about an EV will talk about the charging time on a road trip specifically. If they can get a battery that can accept a full 10% to 90% charge in around 10-15 minutes, then you're going to shut those people down for sure.
This is the reason why Tesla will be a Trillion Dollar Company before 2030.
Tesla made a horrendous mistake by making huge investments in China. Elon Reeve Musk will regret to see his beloved creation getting stolen and being metamorphosed into another Chinese Motorola type of entity in the near future.
I really got a charge out of this video. An NCA charge to be specific….
