Let's talk about the biggest Tesla related lie, the regulatory credits. Tesla earned $354 million from these credits this past quarter. The critics say that this is a record for the company and a 64% increase as compared to the year prior, but let's dive deeper into the numbers and let's check how much of a role these regulatory credits actually played in Tesla's profitability in 2020. The answer is quite surprising.

Since Tesla makes so much money from regulatory credits, they could sell their cars for 25k each, and still make a profit. How many people would buy a Tesla car if it was 25k?
So you just forgot the oprerating expenses? Why didnt you count the net profit? Its just stupid to ignore the operating expenses discussing profits
Why revenue so high?
Tesla generated $8.771 billion in revenue, buoyed by $579 million in energy storage sales and $581 million in services revenue. Tesla once again wasn’t purely profitable based on its sales, though. It also sold $397 million worth of regulatory credits in the quarter, a decrease from the record $428 million in credits it sold during Q2 of this year. They only recorded a profit of 331 million. Hence, they are only profitable because of regulatory credits.

You’re forgetting about the subsidy customers receive when buying a Tesla (or other electric vehicle) in certain jurisdictions. How will the q figure look in r=p*q when subsidization of electric vehicle consumers disappears. This happened in Ontario and there’s no reason this can’t happen elsewhere.

It’s worth remembering that Elon Musk was not a founder of Tesla. He was in the first 5 people though, and has obviously been instrumental to its survival and eventual success. I think he founded SpaceX though.
Who cares about gross margins? Net income is profitability, not gross.
I love Tesla's mission. I love what Tesla is doing in technology, manufacturing, and product design. And I really appreciate Elon Musk's continuing role in all of that. But I still think Elon as a person is kind of a douche. And I find people who hang on to his every Twitter post to be childish and annoying. In general I find the cult of personality built up around rich or famous charismatic people to be ridiculous and ultimately harmful to critical thinking. Tesla fan, but not a Musk fan. 🤷
