There are a lot of stock exchanges out there, but new and growing traders might want to focus on only a few of those.
In the hierarchy of markets, the more established exchanges are ideal for investing or swing trading. The 'lower end' stock exchanges have great volatility for day trading or short selling.
NYSC (New York Stock Exchange) - The oldest stock exchange with the biggest and most established companies. Look for investments, dividend plays, or swing trades in this market.
Nasdaq - Bohen's favorite exchange! An extremely liquid, volatile, electronic market. This is the home of the tech industry. These stocks are easy to get in and out of, and move every day.
OTC/AMEX - This is the Wild, Wild, West of the stock market. Be sure that you 'know what you own,' especially during overnight or swing trades. While the OTC market is not as popular as it once was, there is an opportunity for it to come back.
Day traders - start at the bottom of the tier! You're looking for volatility, so try trading AMEX and OTC during a set time frame. After this, try trading the Nasdaq markets for day trades and swing trades. Eventually, you can look to NYSE if you want to trade with less volatility.
