    Doubt if Gorby cared..

Tom, Putin did come to pay tribute to Gorbachev couple days ago, before he went to Kaliningrad. And he agreed to provide state support for the funeral. For a controversial figure like Gorbachev, I think Putin did the right choice here.

What is really sad is that after Putin, the sale of energy to the west will be nonexistent(then again Germans being quite stupid might decide to trust them again) dooming generations of Russians to even worse poverty. Ironic that the man who was supposed to save Russians from the economic decline of the 90s leads them right back into it.

    Also, trying to avoid assassination!

Intresting there are so many important people's funerals going on in Russia recently. I would love to know if Putin is showing up to all those oil barons and their families that have been died by suicide murders lately!

I am surprised he didn’t die from a cough years ago.

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Omry Yadan says:

Simple: he did not attend Gorbachev's funeral because Gorbachev didn't attend his.

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Roy Phillips says:

I bet Gorbachev didn’t take as much money from the Russian people as Putin did.

Gorbachev die on Tuesday and Putin went to Hospital after his death on Thursday. Putin can't have a state funeral with war on Western Front in Ukraine. No Country would attend a funeral. Only a handful of allies.

I did not attend Gorbachev’s funeral either as I was busy managing my pet Goldfish giving birth. My apologies…

I loved hearing your perspective about Putin's reason for not attending the funeral! I was reading The Guardian story about Gorbachev's death and they stated that Putin praised Gorbachev. That's NOT how I remembered it after the USSR fell. I thought it must be a modern revisionist narrative at play. Thank you for confirming the truth!
    May Gorbachev RIP.

A very western view of things

Tom this was very important to cover and it is so sad that many Russians in Russia don't know how much the decision of Gorbachev helped them to enjoy the life they have had over the past 30 years since that horrible wall fell. All the kids growing up with McDonalds and Channel would have never happened. This perceived sell out that Putin is painting neglects the defectors who escaped to the USA during Olympics and other events because life was so "wonderful" in Mother Russia. The bread lines (my teachers told me about them) and other wonderful things that an entire generation have no clue about. Ask your grandparents if they are not still afraid to speak because they might be disappeared.

When Putin is laid to rest on day he will be hailed as a hero to some, but I hope it is very few because he is destroying the lives of so many with his mania.

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars AyeeMan says:

Thanks for this vid, wondered why he never attended. Though he did take a moment to see his body I saw.

The fall of the USSR was necessary and inevitable, Putin doesn't blame Gorbachev for that. He blames him for the naivety in dealing with the west. He blames him for believing western lies . Biden (in his dementia state) made it very clear the west want's Putin out, and wants to split Russia in multiple regions to neutralize it. The west turned Evil and authoritarian some time ago, we can all feal it. If in doubt (look at the Covid response, talk to Canada's truckers etc). It's not the good guys vs the bad guys (it's the horrible guys vs the horrible guys, 2 gangs fighting, nothing more )

    Putin is no fool
