Welcome back to the channel, this is the credit card maestro. So in my last video I gave you guys the new American Express green card and everything all the features benefits sauna bonus annual fee gave you all of that. This video I wanted to get into the comparisons. I had a couple of comments comparing things to like the city premier car, with the MX green card chase, fi reserve in Chase Sapphire Preferred more likely to it.

So guys really appreciate the comments. I appreciate the feedback on the first video. This was kind of in my mind, one of my guys how to build credit. Tv Dwayne asked me, you know bro.

Are you still going to keep the MX gold card, and this is something that is really on my mind, do I want to have three annual fees from American Express 550 to 50 and 150? It's a lot of money. So today I'm going to be comparing the MX green car, the new and revamped one with the American Express gold card, the new and revamped when it came out this year. So, let's get right into this video make sure you like share and subscribe and tell me which one is better: the new green card, the new gold card - let's get right into it, alright, so quick disclaimer! This information is not going to have anything to do with the signup bonus for the current MX green card or the current signup bonus for the Amex gold card. I want to kind of just devalue the signup bonuses to zero.

I want to look at long term. After year, one which card is really worth having in your wallet of course, a car with a really good sign up bonus is good to have the first year, for mostly everybody right. So, let's look at over that hump once we get in and we sit down and we say well, which card is better because honestly I mean I'm not rich, I don't want to have all three of these cars. I could have two at the most.

Many of I have you know, become rich or whatever or wealthy. Then maybe I'll have all three, because they all kind of you know the AMEX trifecta. That's what you want to call. It really is.

This is I think this is really nice for the charge card. So no annual fees included no signup bonus included strictly weren't you're going to get on a year-to-year basis, which one is better so without further ado, let's get to MX green card all right. So right now, with the MX green card, we have a couple of new categories that they just kind of put out, which I thought was really really awesome. So the first category that they have is going to be three points per dollar on travel and transit.

Now, when you look at the term in the conditions of travel and transit with American, Express it says cruises, it says: hotels, flights, transit, Oh like rideshare, which can be over lift. It also gets into like camping grounds. Third party travel sites like Priceline Expedia, Hotwire. Anything.

You can maybe think of for third party, so that's really awesome. Three points per dollar on that also the new three point: bordello in global restaurants worldwide, so anything that this quota as a restaurant and that's keep in mind in terms of conditions, a bar, a nightclub where a cafeteria will not be included as a restaurant. Nor will like a restaurant in a hotel if a restaurant is in a hotel, it may be coated under the hotel unless it's kind of separate. So keep that in mind.
You want to really make sure it is a restaurant that has its own. You know brick walls, four walls and it's not really in a nightclub or anything like that now, if it is, and it's coated as a restaurant, perfect but you're letting your dog rip, not gon na, be a bar, not gon na, be a nightclub or anything like That not gon na be a cafeteria has to be a restaurant, and it's not coated as such. It's not gon na get it every year. You would get a 100 dollar clear credit, which is a really good credit again, the annual fee for a clear it is billed annually.

It's 15 dollars a month, so it's 150 good annually, so you're really only gon na be paying about 50 bucks. So I'm not mistaken when I look on the website it's at 15 billion annually, so I'm gon na pay out of pocket 50 bucks as opposed to paying 150 or more and the new lounge buddy credit, which is really good again. Lounge buddy was brought by American Express earlier this year, so pretty much any lounge of American Express offers, except for the centaurea lounges. You have access to like Priority Pass, and things like that.

So you know looking at this lounge buddy credit, typically from the ones that I saw where I live, like forty six dollars a pop, so you're bringing you and somebody else. So it's pretty much it right there or, if you're going twice a year and it kind of kills it right there. So those are the perks and the benefits for the American Express green card, not to mention the annual fee is a hundred and fifty dollars. The annual fee is not waived so from year, one you have to make sure you can make it up.

In my opinion, this is really geared towards people who travel and they don't just use like their travel is everything they don't just fly. They may cruise lines. Maybe they want to find a cheaper deal, they don't care about hooks and go status, Marriott status. They don't care about booking directly.

Sometimes they want to find the cheaper deal, the more frugal buyer aka, possibly a millennial right. So I think this card is really towards Millennials. Again, that's me. You know I want the best deal sometimes and then sometimes it does kind of similar I'll go ahead and book direct, but nine times out of ten.

If I'm not on like a really nice like vacation or vacation, and I'm just trying to get to where to go, I just want the best deal. Okay, so that's pretty much that it is and again taxis cruise lines. Third party services, flights directly or indirectly does not matter whatever is the best three points per dollar nap, three points per dollar or restaurants directly make sure meet the terms and conditions and the uh not like clear credit and also the hundred allowance buddy credit. So if you're somebody who's is clear, but somebody uses lounge buddy or you don't have actually a priority past membership or you don't have this in Centurion lounge access, then I think this is a really good car for you and guys keep in mind this again.
If you're somebody who's more frugal but still loves to travel, I think this is really a good car for you. This might be the better car for you and let's get into the American Express gold card that came out this year. The annual fee for the gold card is two hundred and fifty dollars. The annual fee for the gold card is not waived either.

Four points per dollar on restaurants worldwide, so not three, but actually four points per dollar on restaurants worldwide. I'm pretty sure the term is again gon na be the same thing: it's not gon na be a bar nightclub. It's not gon na be at a hotel with the restaurant inside of it, you want to make sure it's an actual restaurant. Now here is the difference.

Four points per dollar on supermarkets up to $ 25,000 and again that's supermarkets in the United States has to be coded as a supermarket. It cannot be a Walmart or Target one. I have it coded as a supermarket three points per dollar on flights booked directly with Airlines directly or American Express Travel comm. That is a big difference.

Three points per dollar just all flights, and it has to be directly through the airline or Amex travicom. You get a one hundred and twenty dollar credit divided in twelve months as an Amex does their credits most of the time for grub's, seamless, Cheesecake Factory, steakhouse box, Shake Shack and, if you're really honestly going to any of those places, you're probably going to spend more Than $ 10 and then the $ 100 airline credit which you can use for, you know bags in-flight meal up to $ 100. And again you guys got to pick that airline every year in January. So those are the benefits when it comes to the American Express gold card who's.

The American Express gold card aim towards honestly. I could say it could be a millennial or it can be someone who may be a little older. I would say this card honestly is more so for the foodie and maybe more of a homebody, I would say, because you have the supermarket purchases up to $ 25,000 you're, definitely buying things. You're gon na be buying things for home, and then you also get dining.

So I know everybody needs to eat, but I would say definitely this is more fun, maybe like a homebody, definitely a foodie, as opposed to the flexibility, to give the green card when it comes to the three points per dollar on travel, and it can be third Party websites, it can be, you know cruises, it can be a bunch of different things when it comes to the Gold Card, you can only be for Amex, travicom or directly with flights, and it's only for flights. Also, the diner credit is another. You know a hint that it's more so for a foodie, but it's more food to throw at you and then again it is somebody who is a flyer and doesn't really care about sticking to one airline. So I would say if you are someone who likes a little bit more flexibility and you want more travel benefits and more travel flexibility.
The MX green card is for you. If you are somebody who likes to travel primarily through airline, maybe with a specific airline and you book directly with Airlines and maybe Amex travicom - and you are a foodie food - is more important to you. Food is more of a priority and you go to supermarkets more than you. Maybe you know go out or maybe you do supermarkets, maybe more than you do, fast-food, restaurants or whatever, I would probably say the gold Carter's for you, but also somebody who doesn't mind spending an extra $ 100 on the annual fee and again you guys do get 220, on the credit $ 100 credit for the airline, so you definitely still make it up in an annual fee, but that's what I think they kind of the green card in the Gold Card kind of counteract each other.

I would have. I think I would have loved it if they kind of made it more easy to have all three because giving somebody's three points per dollar on travel with the green card and make it flexible as opposed to the gold card. Three points per dollar, not really flexible, but you get more benefits with the gold car with the supermarkets and the restaurants have four points per dollar. It kind of makes it hard.

It makes you really want to have both or you can be stuck in the middle and be like look, I'm both I'm a foodie, but I am a traveler who likes flexibility. I think it's all personal preference. If you are asking me, I'm going to go, and this is a really - this is a. This - is a big one.

I believe, honestly, I'm going to go wish and guys got ta. Give me a minute, because I haven't really even processed it myself. If I have to choose between a green card and the gold card, I'm gon na go green card. I'm gon na go green card because I, like flexibility when I travel really, I am a traveler.

I'm still gon na get three points per dollar on dining again. So that is a really good thing right and I don't have to worry again when it comes to traveling about using Amex travicom, which sometimes it's higher or directly through the airlines. So yeah I mean if you're asking me, I would definitely pick green card. I mean it is really hard, though guys it's really tough.

If you're in a position, we could have all three platinum, gold, green, obviously Amex strategically has them. So you need all of them that really maximize your value, get all of them, but again don't be so pressured you don't get into hype. Whatever works for, you is gon na be best for you. That's always excel everybody, but if you guys do want this card definitely apply with the link below for either the gold card or the green card right now.
The green card has a increase on my bonus. If you apply through the referral link, so not only do you get a $ 150 away credit which is good for actually a book bag on the website, so their book bag is 145 bucks. So not only do you get a hundred and fifty dollar a way. Credit for travel, which is a luggage.

You also get thirty five thousand membership award points, as opposed to thirty thousand members who will work points if you apply for the public, offering so definitely apply click the referral link below and you can apply for any American Express card, whatever furling so feel free to Support my channel and feel free to give yourself an increase on a bonus. But again I want your opinion. What do you guys think on your team? Amex Green Team, Amex gold? What are you, are you both and what are you choosing, but every as much as always guys, thanks so much for your support and also I did a plot for the MX green card. We did not see my community coast, I was approved for it, so I will be doing an unboxing of this card within the next week as soon as I get it or try to get it out as quickly as possible before the big dogs get all on It, but I'm definitely one make sure I do it unboxing, for you guys so definitely make sure you stick around for that.

Give me that subscribe to be enough thumbs up I'll, see you in another video take care.

At first, I thought the new green card was a flop compared to gold but later I started to think that it is a very good choice for someone that dosen't want to spend a high AF and wants to start with amex charge cards. I think for traveling green card is the best. 3x earning any on hotel and airlines, cruise, rideshare and restaurants, it is better than the chase preferred with a higher AF. If food is really your main expense and don't travel much, gold is for you And always have a visa/mc accompanied with it when you travel just in case.

The green card paired with the Everyday Preferred is a great combo – 3x on travel and dining for green and 4.5x on groceries and 3x on gas with ED Preferred all about the same annual fee on gold

Got approved for the green card, what's a foodie? I'm not a food expert, but I do spend on restaurant, and travel ( public transportation, ride share) quite often.

The AMEX Green Card sounds like a better deal for me as someone who spends most of my outside the USA due to the 3 points on most travel especially Uber and 3rd party sites like Expedia which also use Membership reward 3 points.
Sites like Rocket miles allow you to earn Membership Reward Points for hotel stays, though I find booking direct tends to be cheaper for chain hotels like Marriott and Choice.
3 points for restuarents unlike the Gold Card which I agree with you 100% is better for someone that tends to travel less but eats out and food shops a lot but for me The Gold Card wouldn't have as much value: 4p only good at US Supermarkets, $100 travel can't be used on different airlines or foreign ones that I travel on, restaurant credit also useless abroad. Actually the Green card beats out the Chase Sapphire Preferred which only offers 2 points on the same categories and no way to offset the annual fee.
In Brazil at least American Express is widely accepted though bring a backup Visa or MasterCard.
Oh yeah make sure you have a credit card which offers extra miles for supermarket purchasing as even small bodegas here code as Supermarkets and serve hot food.

But remember you said long term. After one year the 4X goes back to 1X.

So here’s my run down of these two:

The green covers transit, and taxis, very well. And if you are frequently making use of those for work – several times a week – it’s a great option. If you travel, let’s say just twice a year, the option to purchase your travel, additional tours, non-directly for a cheaper cost is great. Don’t forget you’ll probably take a cab to/from the airport – and that’s 600 points in value right there for New Yorkers.

Then the Gold card covers your spend on dining and supermarkets. Which can easily get up there.

The travel credit can be used for seat upgrades, extra baggage allowance, or niche programs like Delta SkyMiles Select (redemption approved on my Gold last week).

And the dining credit will get used throughout the year on the Gold because you’ll be prioritizing it for dining already.

Most people who have sufficient spend in the above categories will benefit greatly from holding both cards.

I got approved for green card and canceled after three days. I love my CSR,Gold& platinum combination

Great vid! Getting right into the content without the intro was a good change of pace as well. Only way I believe I’ll keep the Gold is if they make it easier to use the Airline Credit as well as not being required to use Amex Travel. As you said with Amex Travel it’s often more expensive than other travel sites. I’m cool with picking an airline, I would just prefer to use it towards ticket sales/gift cards and be done.

I think it maybe possible that the gold card and the green card makes a better combo than the gold card and platinum.

  12. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Maurice Soffer says:

I downgraded from gold to green for one reason the transit 3x on all transit perfect for a New Yorker like myself and 4X to 3x on dining isn’t so bad.

Amex Gold in my book but still up in the air on the Amex Green.

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gary Blouin says:

Great comment (paraphrasing): "Go with what works for you."

I really like the new Amex Green Card. Lots of flexibility. I have the Gold Card and the supermarket points give me a lot of points. I quickly scanned my purchases over the past year and surprisingly, only a few would have given me a couple additional points; ie: parking, etc. My Blue Business Plus helps bridge that gap for a flat 2x on everything that the Gold doesn't cover.

If I had Clear in Charlotte, I may give the Amex Green another look and optimize my spend between the Gold, Green and Blue Business Plus. But at this time, no although I still need to download my transactions from Amex and do a "what if".

Re: the Blue Business Plus, no … I technically don't own a business. I do maybe 1 or so sales a month on eBay and got the card under my personal SSN.

How about the Amex Green Vs CSR ?
