Cast iron does not normally expand. What actually happens is that rust (iron oxide) expands. Rust happens when oxygen combines with the iron. Rust flakes off and the new iron surface is available for new oxygen. Compared with the open air, water does not have mush free oxygen. Thus, when left alone, the water evaporates, and the rate of rusting accelerates because the atmosphere has much more free oxygen.
However, cast iron has not been used much in modern times. These cast iron pipes were old and probably near the end of their service life. Leaving the house vacant just fished the job.

Truly love your videos and the knowledge I gain from your investment course. I even showed my wife your videos and she agreed it was a good investment. I think these type of videos show even more your truly are a down to earth person. God the property though way to many yea butts and too many potential surprises that could make 35k look like a dream fix.
