Hey Tom…what are your thoughts on Kroger in talks to merge with Albertsons to create Giant Superstore. Even in bad times people gonna buy food, toilet paper, soap. Etc.

When I started driving, mid-70's, I could buy a gallon of gas for $0.33. I could also buy a pack of smokes for $0.33. So, for less than a dollar, I had a pretty good time. By the way, don't smoke. It's a tuff habit to break. Word…

And I am 100% sure, the dollar will not ever ever ever have that kind of buying power again. However, 1 share of IBM for $6.22. I'm a little busy to work out that would be in present value, but I'm sure as heck it would be a lot of money today.

My question, why move your investments into a product that was just hammered by an 8.2% drop? And, this is important, this is NOT an asset that will come back. Down 8.2% YTD, may not be as bad as the market averages, BUT, the dollar will not 'come back and set new highs', devalued fiat currencies, stay devalued and their only direction is DOWN. Will never ever ever increase in buying power.

We watched this happen to the YEN. Politics so polluted its value, the Japanese have not been able to come back from it in the last 30+ years.

However, I fully expect to see new market highs at some point in the future.

Now, if I am wrong, well, there is no longer any point in investing in a very bleak future. And I'm very aware this is a real possibility.

You know Tom, it's almost like… We are going through a supply shock. DUH.

"OH, we have no more oil, natural gas, fertilizer, and food globally. Why are prices going up? We should use monetary policy!"

It's the dumbest thing ever. The fact that anyone is surprised by inflation as a result of supply shocks is asinine. The fed/the administration (because come on, it's not rocket science; it's obvious to anyone who studied economics that monetary policy doesn't work to fix supply shocks) should be replaced with someone with a brain.

Recently, sold our flat in Budapest and went back to pack everything out of the flat. We were there for about 2 weeks. Honestly, food prices at Aldi and Lidl were up between 25-50% at least. Our neighbor said they took the cap off electric and prices went up 700%. Government putting some serious regulations on energy. Doesn’t look good. Very beautiful country with an extensive history. Pay is super super low and people are struggling so bad. As Americans, most people really don’t have a clue how fortunate they are. We’re thinking about our $6 coffee where they are hoping to get meat today and not having to just eat bread and mustard.
