With a Claus in the document allowing you to liquidate the item as you see fit at a future date. NEVER ALLOW Items like this near your property they are "hot potato". Jewelry should go directly to a bank or you can do the deal in a bank parking lot and then have him watch as you deposit the items in an safe deposit box. The cost for storage and small % interest will be part of the loan. If he doesn't pay only take what is yours $1000 plus storage fee, interest return the rest to him plus copies of all documentation pertaining to the sale. Another tip people want to please so if they say they can pay you back in three months give him six he says six give him a year. Remember you WILL get paid one way or another within the confines of the value of the item in question. Cars or motorcycles are more of a pain you have to place the title in your name then put the item in storage, lock on steering wheel and rendered inoperable remove battery and computer. I like to use a storage place next to a main road so the guy can see it every day. Helping renters? don't do it the evection process is too long already start it the day after the rent is due.
