Introducing IGTV: Instagram’s long form video platform. But how will this do compared to YouTube, and should YouTube be worried? These are my thoughts. Add me on Instagram: GPStephan
For those who aren’t aware, Instagram just announced that it’s now trying to take a shot at YouTube by creating IGTV, an app that allows vertically oriented videos, full-screen, up to 4k resolution, and as long as 60 minutes.
If Instagram does this properly, YouTube has a reason to be concerned - and lets be real, some healthy competition could be good for YouTube to further cater to its users and improve the site. But in order for this to work for Instagram, a few things need to happen:
One: It needs to allow horizontal videos. While vertical videos are ok, and we’re used to it right now on Instagram for short form videos, it’s a narrow range of view. If they can copy YouTube’s current format to be able to change the layout, they’ll be just fine. But ONLY allowing for portrait mode on instagram, in my opinion, is a narrow-minded move.
Two: They need to allow monetization. This will be their biggest obstacle, and also their biggest opportunity. Otherwise, I’m concerned instagram videos will take a backseat to YouTube until creators have an incentive to prioritize one over the other.
Three: They need to allow a user-friendly algorithm to give you the content YOU want to watch, not the content THEY want you watch. Because they have the user-generated data behind Facebook, I’d expect that they can reasonably target the right people for the right videos - potentially more accurately than YouTube.
Four: It would be amazing if allowed in-video tagging. I’d love to be able to watch a video on Instagram, see someone else come up on screen, and be able to click on them and be directed to their instagram page without leaving the video. This is something no one has implemented yet.
Five: Comment ranking would also be pretty important. One of the best parts about YouTube is its community…I’d like to be able to like or dislike comments, maybe in a similar format to Reddit.
Six: Finally, they need to LISTEN to what their use want…which is often just a chronological timeline. Not necessarily an algorithm to favor one post or another, but for a way for us to see ALL of them in the order they’re posted.
If this happens, I think IGTV can quickly become a new and invigorating new platform for video!

Nope
Start double recording, one camera for YouTube, the other for in vertical video for IGTV
Put your normal style of videos on IGTV too.
How can I sub you AT IGTV?
I hate YouTube's censorship. They are stopping freedom of speech. I desperately need a new platform to watch videos.
Thank you so much to actually confront You Tube with is non sence algorith and unfair rules. Keep going my man
I haven't used Facebook for a week its boring now.
rip 2015 2017 not 2018
Crap my dream is not happening
Instagram? YouTube shouldn't worry about that
No
i run ad block strict, see no ads. i also run fbpurity so i dont see the fb garbage. now for internet stuff I use a computer, rare i use phone for anything "internet" but even there i run strict dns blacklisting of ad domains (using abp filters) so no ads on phone also.
YouTubby has just lengthen its advert length. This will be a lethal step at best or at least a misstep. One word, Bitchute.
Bye Bye.

I'm a YouTuber myself and this is f**** b***** f*** you too I'm not quitting I will kill whoever gets in mile this is my story I've been talking to a lot of YouTubers and you're one of them one of the 100th person I talked first I talked to Cody Maverick I talked all those YouTubers and you know what happened f**** b***** question they all got shut f**** down Cody Maverick was my favorite
igtv vertical tv going to take a long time for people to get use to. nothing going to touch youtube for long time.
The problem with IGTV offering greater freedom in monetization and not steering users to more Disney-fied offerings is that content creators who have been demonetized or have lost out in the vanilla-skewed trending algorithms will hop on over to IGTV, making it the home of the alt-right, misogynistic, neo-nazi trolls on one end, and the billy's school play crowd on the other, in short the rabidly anti-social and the boring. That will threaten IGTV's brand and they will go the Youtube route. A better idea is integrating a Patreon-like system. Buying Patreon would be a mistake, as Patreon and Youtube already have compatibility issues, but creating a system where groups like the neo-nazi fringe, or the school play aficionados, can monetize as they see fit, while not disrupting the less extreme or more engaging parts of the internet that make up most of the viewers. That's the challenge. If IGTV can square that circle, it will be a force to be reckoned with. If not, it will be vertical Vimeo.
I just want a platform not owned by a bunch of liberals.
No dumbass, vidme wasnt a joke like your click bait filled cancerous channel
Today we have click bait
preach
Doesn't Vimeo take a small part of the pie?
DO EPIC SHIT
Idk man they're stuck vertical? Lane and probably not a nice easy UI like YouTube has stuck with. They've obviously updated but been very true to original design. IGTV is ehh
I love the vertical video format … it’s so easy for on the go video watching
