We’ve all heard the phrase, “the harder you work, the luckier you get.” But let’s be real: some people just seem to get luckier than others. But is there any science behind it? Let’s find out! Add me on Snapchat/Instagram: GPStephan

Let’s begin here: why are some people luckier? It’s found that lucky people generally have the same types of qualities, and this is what’s commonly found.
1. Mindset. This found to be the most important and without this, everything else falls apart. Studies have shown that luckier people were more likely to view a negative scenario as an opportunity, seeing it as the glass half full - with every failure, they view it as “it could have been worse.” People who claimed they were “unlucky” viewed an unfortunate event negatively and often felt as though they were a victim to the situation. This victim mentality made it much harder to see an opportunity that would otherwise be apparent from an unpleasant situation.
2. With mindset being the first focus, people who considered themselves lucky were generally optimists. By believing that there were opportunities in every circumstance, they were more likely to find those opportunities, and it became a self-fulfilling prophecy. The more self-fulfilling prophecies you have, the more likely you are to BELIEVE in seeing opportunities in negative situations, then the more opportunities you’ll end up seeing, and the more you’ll re-enforce that belief - just strengthening this cycle.
3. Lucky people were also found to be more willing to try new experiences and add variety to their lives. I
4. Lucky people were found to be more extroverted, but personally I don’t believe it’s the extroversion itself, but more so the ability to connect with others and take risks. This allows the opportunity for more luck to occur, provided you still believe yourself lucky and view the glass half full.
5. Finally, it’s found that lucky people are more likely to trust their intuition and less likely to be anxious about the situation. Research has shown that anxiety disrupts people’s ability to notice the unexpected because they’re too focused on avoiding the negative than searching out for the positive. Lucky people tend to be more relaxed, and therefore more likely to notice chance opportunities, even when not expecting them.
So with that said, and with science and studies out of the way here are my thoughts on it.
From the way I see it, we’re all dealt a hand of cards in life. Sometimes we’re dealt with a great deck of aces, other times we’re given shit. Just because you have a solid hand doesn’t automatically mean you’ll win, and just because you have a shitty deck doesn’t mean you’ll lose. It’s totally up to you to do the best you can, given the circumstance, and take advantage of everything you have within your power.
The more time you spend working on something, the more opportunity you’ll be exposed to, and the more likely you are to have a positive outcome.
So for everyone out there…you have the same 24 hours in a day and the same ability to make your own decisions and control how you view things. The glass is always half full and there are opportunities everywhere, it’s just up to you to be open enough to see them 🙂

What a great message Graham. I agree 100% with this. There will be no luck at all if you don't work towards those opportunities. Thank you Stephan, THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Yes, and I am glad you made this video. But dude, selling 3.5 million dollar real estate properties at ages 18-22 does not seem realistic for majority of people. Even those who work hard, create opportunities to get lucky. In other words, yes you did everything you could be doing to get very lucky in your situation, but dude, YOU GOT SUPER LUCKY. Who do you see buying millions of dollars in real estate from teenagers? What 18-22 year olds have lotus and 3 rental properties? And it’s not necessarily all for a lack of effort and smarts. Summary: Graham was REALLY lucky, but no doubt that he did do something to make his own luck. How many people do you think can and do become real estate agents in LA or SF? A lot, it requires little to no credentials. But how many succeed with this kind of quick riches… I would bet 1% maybe?

The way you explained luck or being lucky makes so much sense. Thanks for sharing. I love your videos, so informational, inspirational and of course, enjoyable. You are so generous with information and especially shading your steps to success. Most others refuse to share probably because they feel like it is creating competition. So thank you ^__^. Even for simple videos like this ❤.

Luck still plays a part bro. Don't become so disconnected from reality with your riches that you become one of those wealthy psychopaths who thinks those starving Africans born in Somalia can work their way out of that shithole just by trying harder.

I have a question unrelated to this video, but is really important to me: how do you stay motivated, without fear controlling you? Right after high school, I got a job in a restaurant where I was just… depressed. Things I had enjoyed before became boring. I lost all motivation to pursue anything ambitious. I went home not happy that the work day was over, but dreading that I would have to go back the next. Just went to work, then college, then home… when I was fired last year, that was one of the happiest/most freeing days of my life.

I had a couple thousand dollars saved up, and had been very interested in trying Fulfillment By Amazon for a little bit over a year now. I became more motivated than I've ever been before, or at least I thought I was. Maybe I was just desperate? I paid for courses, sat through hours of video made a seller account on Amazon. Then I just… didn't do anything with it. I was paralyzed with fear thinking to myself "I can't do this. I'm me. I know me. I'm just going to fail and waste my money! Hell, my family doesn't even believe in me. They want me to become a doctor or something. If they don't believe in me, and they're smarter than me, why should I believe in me?" And then I proceeded to waste all my remaining money on dumb shit. It's officially my greatest failure in my near 23 years on this planet. It's left me more depressed than ever because I knew the fault lied entirely in myself. Now it's a struggle just to get up in the morning, because at least when I had a job I was doing something. And now if I want to try to pursue this again, I'll have to get another part time job I'll hate.

This got really wordy, but bottom line is I've just come to realize I'm really bad at motivating myself. How did you get so good at it?

Luck = "Being at the right place at the right time." How can people think that this definition of luck has nothing to do with your effort? "Being at the right place on the right time" has a lot to do with your effort.

It would be awesome if you did a day in the life of an agent video if possible. It would be a good way to see what you typically do each day so we can see some of your tips and techniques in action. Also would be beneficial for those considering becoming an agent but want to get an idea of what it takes to be successful.
