When it comes to day trading, swing trading, and investing, one of the smartest things you can do is maximize your access to information. You can’t make solid trades if you don’t know what you’re trading.
That’s why you need price quotes, stock charts, press releases ... and why you need to actually review it all. Sometimes you gotta dig into the SEC filing to check for outstanding warrants or any red flags on the stock. You need to dig into the deep financials to see that balance sheet — that can give you a great overview.
Let’s check out some no-cost resources...
#1: Yahoo Finance. This one’s a little old school. Even though Google has kinda taken over the internet, Yahoo Finance goes back to the dot-com boom. Don’t remember it? You should research it — always know your stock market history!
Google was still growing in the early 2000s and Yahoo was around earlier … And back then, there were such insane moves in the market. If you think the years 2018 and 2019 are crazy for stocks, go back to 1998–2000. Yahoo was the biggest information provider out there. That's where everybody would go to post and find information. It's still a great free resource. It may be a little dated, but all the information is there.
#2: Google. The company doesn’t talk about it much, but Google has a finance page. It's great, especially for news. Nobody gets the news faster than Google. All the information you need is right there. And a great quick tip, especially if you’re into sympathy plays, Google has a feature where if you search for a stock, it shows you related stocks that people are searching for.
#3: Finviz.com. This one’s a Bohen favorite. They’ve got great-looking charts. They've got a useful basic screener. You can look for the big percent gainers and the 52-week breakouts. And it’s organized and very clean.
Now, these are some great free resources. If you use them and decide you want real-time information, faster charts, better-looking charts, and everything in one spot ... don’t forget about StocksToTrade. We’ve got charts, news, screeners, Oracle our scanning algorithm.
You can even trade directly from StocksToTrade with broker integration. Just getting started and need some practice? Check out our paper trading feature. It’s everything you need on one platform, and we’d love to help change the way you trade every day.
