ATTENTION* this is NOT a review of Coldwell Banker Tanner Realty or Remax. This review is an account of my experience with this particular real-estate agent. It is simply my experience as a client and the events that took place.
This real-estate agent sold himself as the “top dog” in the real-estate business for our area. The service we received was far from what was promised and expected.
FIRST ISSUE: We had no signs on our property or leading to our property for over a week after we hired this agent. He blamed it on their “sign person.” It was remedied the next day. No big deal.
SECOND ISSUE: Our first open house was ruined when the agent put the wrong address for our home in the advertisement. (Again, someone else’s fault “the internet person made a mistake, sorry about that.”)
THIRD ISSUE: Another open house with ZERO ADVERTISEMENT until the night before. I call agent about there being no signs and was immediately met with hostility and accused of “telling him how to do his job.” (Again, it was someone else’s fault though.) Signs were placed that night, but with the wrong date for the open house.
The people making these mistakes worked for him. And he worked for me. It was HIS JOB to make sure his people were doing what they were supposed to be doing. And it was my job to make sure that I’m being represented properly by my realtor. I did not feel like this was happening.
FOURTH ISSUE: We hired this particular agent to sell our home. He physically showed our home maybe once that we know of while he then delegated all other showings to other agents within and outside of his office. When we addressed this issue, he specifically told us that he would show our house at the next open house but never showed up. A stranger arrived at my home claiming to be sent by this agent. When I inquired about why he wasn’t here I was told “family business.” I contacted the agent and was met with hostility over the phone and told “excuse me for wanting to spend my wife’s birthday with her.” Agent was rude and lied about being there for next open house. I should have been informed by the agent he would not be showing up. NOT some random stranger who then informed me that he was new to real-estate.
FFIFTH ISSUE: After several more mistakes/oversights this agent preceded to blame my wife and me for our home not selling. He wanted us to basically empty our home for showings (which is hard to do when you LIVE THERE and HAVE CHILDREN.)
SIXTH ISSUE: The agent essentially demanded updates and improvements on the property that we couldn’t afford. He wanted landscaping, painting, and a professional pool cleaning done. We informed him that we did not have the money to do these things and that the house is and would be sold “as-is.”
SEVENTH ISSUE: I came home from work one day and found contractors at my home making the fore mentioned improvements without my approval and outside of any contract. I contacted the agent immediately and was told “We can work it out on the back-end” of the sale. I DID NOT AGREE to those terms but the yard work and pool work had already been started and/or finished. The paint contractors showed up at my home drinking on the job in front of my children, got paint on our furniture, left receptacles exposed, and left cigarette butts in my yard that I had to clean up.
Eighth ISSUE: (which resulted in the firing/quitting of this agent from Coldwell Banker Tanner Realty.) I contacted the agent and arranged for a sit down meeting. He showed up at my home to “work things out.” He proceeded to tell me again that it was my fault that my house wasn’t selling but when confronted with the many mistakes, he was quick to blame someone else within his office and would not accept responsibility for anything. He then proceeded to tell me that I acted “as if I was his only client” and slid some stapled papers across the table telling me “these are all my clients” I slid the papers back toward him and told him “I didn’t care about his “other clients.” The agent SLAMMED HIS FISTS down on my kitchen table scaring my wife and two small children who were also in the room and made the statement “maybe if you cleaned this sh!thole, your house would sell!” and that our home “looked like a constant mess.” I told my wife to take the kids out of the dining room. As she walked out with our children I leaned across the table and told the agent to leave my house and never step foot on my property again. I contacted USAA who referred this agent to us through their USAA Real-estate Rewards Program and filled them in on the situation. They were immediately in contact with Coldwell Banker Tanner Realty.
NINTH ISSUE: The real-estate agent had to be forced to release our listing so that we could hire a new realtor. After all this, is when he was either fired or quit Coldwell Banker Tanner Realty.
FINAL ISSUE: After hiring a new realtor, our home going under contract, and reaching our closing date, we were informed that a lien was filed against our home in the amount of $3400.00. We were never notified by the county, served, or made aware of this lien nor did we ever have the chance to dispute the validity of the lien. This is one year after I fired him and two months after I moved to Oregon with my family for work. A week of back and forth with different people I was finally left with no other option but to contact the fired agent personally to resolve the issue. He refused to remove the lien without payment for work he did, on his own, and without any signed agreement between myself and him. He then told me that he would personally see to it that I never close on my home if that is what it takes to “get his money.”
IN CLOSING: Anyone who has small children would understand keeping a house perfectly clean is impossible, but the house WAS presentable and well cleaned before any and all scheduled showings. I also acknowledge that selling a home while the owners still live in the house is not ideal but I had no choice but to remain in the home until I started my new job and could pay for my move.
Loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, and integrity are values that I teach my children and try to live by. I saw none of these values in this real-estate agent. This agent cares only about his bottom line and his profit. NOT that of his clients. I am a disabled Iraq war veteran who lives my life for God, Country, and Family. I do not look to take advantage of others but to defend those who cannot or will not defend themselves. I feel that it is my duty to inform others of this experience as to hopefully keep them from sharing the same trouble that I faced. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND using this agent for your home selling needs. I WOULD NOT refer this agent to anyone.
BEWARE* This realtor is holding my home hostage through a lien after being fired by myself, quitting or being fired from his former brokerage and then on 5/3/19 demanded money from me if I ever wanted to close on my home.
Extortion- the practice of obtaining something, especially money, through force or threats.
(Told me that he would “personally see to it that I never close on my home if that what it takes” to “get his money.”)
Bubba I found and text you, Would love 10 min of your time for a future agent.
