Elon's Massive NEW X.com Lawsuit | Fully Summary in 8 Minutes [X vs Media Matters] @elonmusk @x
✅X alleges: Media Matters purposefully manipulated the algo by following extreme accounts and then spam scrolling to find Apple and Xfinity ads next to Nazi content.
✅X claims you'd have to purposefully engineer the algo to make this happen - this is not a normal user experience.
✅X is demanding damages
✅X claims advertisers quit because of Media Matters, which cost revenue.
**Challenge for X**
❌Prove Media Matters was untruthful. Technically, X says the posts next to those ads were real, BUT they were manipulated, therefore Media Matters article saying X shows ads next to Nazi content is untrue.
❌Prove Media Matters article caused X to lose revenue
**Defense for Media Matters**
🛡️We saw the posts. We reported on it. Yes we scrolled a lot, but that doesn't change that it happened.
🛡️We weren't the reason advertisers left.
🚨🚨My Take🚨🚨
✅This lawsuit is 99% likely to settle.
✅It's the pro-free speech fight @elonmusk is known for standing for - which is great and righteous.
✅I do not think he'd win this lawsuit, but he will prove he fights for free speech and will overcome this.
✅To win this lawsuit, you'd have to prove the posts were either false (which X says they were real) or you'd have to prove Media Matters lied by parsing article verbiage (possible). BUT EVEN IF YOU DO, you'd have to prove advertisers left BECAUSE OF the article, not for other reasons. That's VERY HARD.
I SIDE WITH ELON on this one, nonetheless. You can have your criticisms of Elon, but to manipulate the algo to bash X is UNETHICAL. It may not be lawsuit-victory worthy, but I agree with Elon's fight and agree Media Matters was unethical .

Here's the tldr on the lawsuit that X just filed against Media Matters. It all stems from the following two posts that I'm about to show you and I'm going to show you what Twitter is alleging is deceitful about what Media Matters is alleging. So let's be clear: X is run and owned by Elon Musk Media Matters Posted an article basically saying that Elon Musk's Twitter which is now called X puts advertis Iers ads next to insensitive content like images of Hitler or commentary about the third W. Quite specifically, here are two such examples.
On the left, you could see one individual user saying, sadly, this is true and it's a quote of the Nationalist saying real talk and it's what people think a spiritual awakening is versus what it actually is and then a picture of Hitler. As you can see in the screenshot right below it, there is an Apple advertisement right next to it. On the right, you'll see Carl rattle talking about facts about the Third Reich the Nazi party, and below that you'll see an Xinity ad. Now, this was used as a way to essentially say that X is bad because it will put your advertising dollars next to Nazis.
First of all, a lot of people look at this and go. X is known for free speech. If you want to say stuff, then you can say stuff. And the point of X is to allow people to say what they want.
You'll actually notice that with these particular tweets they didn't get a lot of Engagement The Third Reich one got about 172 likes the other one got about 30 likes. So relative to the content that most people see on a regular basis, you probably have to be following these user accounts to interact with. this. and there might be some people who want stats about the Third Reich that also want Xfinity Internet That's sort of just looking about it from sort of an outside point of view in now.
Unfortunately, Media Matters used these screenshots that they found to disparage X and try to get other advertisers to drop their advertisements on X. Now Elon Musk and X are suing Media Matters Here is the compl and the complaint basically says: Media Matters The company that took these screenshots and is trying to disparage X basically generated this kind of content next to ads by their own manipulative practice. So what do they mean by that? and I'm going to come back to this because I think this is an interesting wow right there that I wrote there. Basically, Musk is alleging an X is alleging that Media Matters purposefully manipulated these algorithms and they did it by making accounts and exclusively following uh people or posters known to produce extreme Fringe contents, uh, content.
And then they purposefully scrolled, uh, generating 13 to 15 times more advertisements per hour than an average Twitter user. Which obviously you know, does an average user include people who are active on the platform versus not active on the platform? Whatever. But they're basically trying to make this argument that Media Matters followed Fringe maybe far rightwing accounts or authoritarian accounts or whatever and then started doing this just scrolling scrolling scrolling scrolling until they found those Xfinity and Apple ads next to questionable content, took a screenshot of it and then made fun of basically X and said that this is a bad platform because it obviously puts your ad money next to you know, disgusting content. right? Here is the Media Matters article itself where it says as Musk endorses anti-semitic conspiracy theory X has been placing ads for Apple Bravo IBM Oracle and XFinity next to pro-nazi content and of course they found that with uh, their rapid scrolling. X alleges that this might happen in like 0.009% of cases and you basically have to orchestrate it to try to pull this off. Uh, the CEO of X posted on Twitter earlier that only one to two users actually saw these ads and one of those users were Media Matters themselves. So how does this devolve now? Well, now you have a fight now. Basically, you have a lawsuit.
Media Matters has to argue that no advertisers didn't stop advertising on Twitter costing you money because of our post. they actually quit advertising because of Elon Musk's comments on other posts. Okay, so you're going to have a debate about that. That's number one, number two.
Media Matters is going to say you did have that ad next to those pictures. So what we said can't be defamatory because it was true and it doesn't matter that we manipulated the algorithm, it did show up X is going to respond and say well, you might have been saying the truth, but you're not saying the whole truth in how you manipulated the algorithm to do that and therefore now you cost us damages and we are now therefore suing for all of the damage that is being caused. It's really difficult by the way. just you know to win this kind of lawsuit.
To say we were defamed Advertisers have stopped advertising on X It's solely your fault and you have cost us X and therefore now you have to pay. It's a really hard fight to fight, but I Don't think Elon is actually fighting this fight because he thinks that he's going to win I Think he's fighting it because it perpetuates the image of Elon Musk promoting his fight for free speech. Which if you think about it, the best advertisement for Twitter is we are a free speech platform and we will fight for it. Whether or not they win doesn't matter.
It's the idea that Twitter will fight for free speech and that's good. Good for them. Now one thing that I did think was surprising which I wrote wow next to was that Twitter makes or I keep saying Twitter I'm sorry about that, That's just the way I still think of it. Uh, X makes an overwhelming source of its revenue from advertisements I Actually thought the premium subscriptions would have been helping, but it sounds like it's still mostly ads, which that is also concerning to some since advertising revenue is deemed to be still down about 50% and so a lot of people are concerned about the economic health of Twitter but are hopeful that it can recover so we'll see what happens. Fingers crossed I Support Elon with this I Don't think he's going to win this lawsuit, but I think his messaging is appropriate and I do think it's messed up for a company like Media Matters to purposefully try to rig the algorithm to dump on X that's messed up like you can agree or disagree with Elon all you want I agree with 99% of what Elon does and says but there's 1% of the stuff where I'm like bro, stop being a knucklehead and I'm allowed to have that opinion. That's my version of free speech, right? But I think honestly, most people probably feel that way. It's like yeah, you know, not like a yeah, you know, a siant who's just going to suck up to somebody. Anyway, thank you so much for watching I Hope you found this useful.

What a nothing burger. How is this even news that user generated content interlaced with ads would not be to everyone taste? People seem to get dumber every day. Unless X specifically promised to not show ads next to "insensitive" (defined by who?) Its irrelevant. Its like going to a forrest and complaining there are no electricity.
Musk is not for free speech. He is charging users.
Media Matters is Fake news, Trump 👍💯🇺🇸 2024 !
meet kkkevin
Are American's that stupid, Media Matters employees several CIA and FBI, how people don't know that, pathetic
'media matters' is george $oro$ funded looney-left, America-last propaganda!
Thank God for Elon Musk and I support him 100%.
Can anybody see this post ? Seriously I think my posts are not showing up
Media Matters did not disclose the test methodology to how they came to get to the results that they came to. If Elon can prove that was the test methodology that Media Matters used to get the results they want and then allege that any account like yours or mine would see the same content without replicating the test methodology, then I'd say they're liable. If Elon can get the court to subpoena e-mails and texts that show intent to defame to incur financial losses against X, then Media Matters is toast.
Elon Musk doesn't have a case.
Lol When musk wasted more money than the company is worth…and because he can't shut the f up. now he has to bring a lawsuit just to say that he tried. all these people that are backing up musk are gonna waste so much money, this is gonna be epic.
Kevin, Kevin, if you agree with Elon Musk about defending free speech, then there is nothing wrong with the other party exercising free speech. Elon’s free speech rule is to squash others free speech. I feel you are in the wrong side here. Apple should care about their add placement. Should they not, oh, but the algorithm was manipulated, lame excuse, well then fix it. You can not agree with this, but because you did i will rate you from 1 to 10, 1. Please, don’t agree with troubled ideologies. Maybe it would have been better not to give your opinion.

SELL ALL TESLA STOCK ITS A SINKING SHIP
Might be wrong here, but isnt media matters the group that tried to get patrice and opie and Anthony removed then got roasted by patrice on fox news? Musk is right tho, they must have been adding and or watching a bunch of nazi shit to get that to come up,easy solution is to show their search history
Thank you for the summary!! ❤
""Twitter will fight for free speech" isn't a good argument when that free speech is hate speech. 🤷
The gist.
1. Media Matters operatives intentionally found accounts with anti-Semitic views and followed those accounts.
2. Then those same operatives followed advertiser accounts (Apple, IBM, etc.).
3. Then the operators continually refreshed the timelines (refreshed 15 times that of a normal users interaction) until X's ad mechanism offered up an ad.
4. Took snapshot and wrote article. It was all manufactured outcome and news.
Defending free speech by suing someone’s free speech.
Also Elon agrees with antisemitic comments.
I think advertisers should pull out. His suit even says it actually happened.
I love how Elon suggested ballot stuffing was a thing during 2020 elections, such a cool dude.
Youtube kids has advertisement about viagra, maybe i should sue youtube.
Flagrant assault on free speech by so called free speech absolutist.
This is a spurious case by X, and it isn't going to go anywhere, as there's no defamatory case here even according to what Musk alleges. This case by Musk and "conservative" state Attorneys General hopping in the clown car with Musk, expose all those as hypocrites that hate our freedom speech.
Discovery might be interesting
Media matters could attack advertisers the same way on all platforms but they're only doing it on X because Elon said he'd never vote democrat ever again and fired all the government spies from X.
Media matters is a mid-level boss on the way to a S0ros type villain.
That's like saying if a NeoNazi has a smoke at a bus stop, the cigarette company and the local government support neo-nazism.
Media Matters are vile and evil people.
