Did Microsoft discover OpenAI knew or discovered dangerous, sentient AI via artificial general intelligence ( #AGI)? Karpathy tweeted ☢️ @elonmusk tweeted that now they'll all have to use #Teams.
⚠️My take⚠️
I don't believe AGI is close. Language models are trained neural nets on how to respond to humans, like a human. It doesn't mean it's alive, yet.
Anyway, I can't wait for the Netflix documentary on this all.
What's your take?

Microsoft basically de facto owns Chat GPT and Open AI. Now Now, even though that out of context is not exactly true, here's basically a clip of the CEO of Microsoft and what he had to say to the CEO of Open AI Here you go. Look at me. Sure, look at me.

Sure. I'm the captain. Now that's right. Microsoft is basically the captain now.

and so here's a synthesis of the drama that we have so far I Tried to put this together to make this as simple as possible because it's kind of complicated to follow and I like making things simple around here. Okay, so what do we have Microsoft buy stakes and Open AI in 2019 21 and another 10 billion in 2023. That was back when they were worth about 29 billion and the stakes from 2019 and 2021 would have grown. And so even though that looks like maybe they would have bought a third because of the original Stakes, they probably own somewhere between 40 to 49% of Open AI which is supposed to be a nonprofit organization and in their agreement with Microsoft, Microsoft gets access to 3.5 and 4.0 for GPT and no artificial general intelligence.

As soon as any AGI is discovered, control goes right back to the Open AI board or so we're told. Some are theorizing that the team at Open AI basically discovered whether on purpose or by accident AGI and Microsoft is like crap. We don't want to lose control, so how can we get all control? Well, whether or not that rumor is true, which it may not be, Uh, we. we'll talk about that and language learning models in just a moment.

Microsoft Basically has full control now. I'll come back up and explain this because here's what Microsoft just did. First catch you up to speed: the board fired Sam Alman the CEO over quote unquote communication issues they promised it wasn't malf, security issues, product or business issues. it was a communication disagreement.

Okay, number two employees and C Lev Executives at Open Aai were blindsided by this move by the board. So investors in the public threatened the board, the board, and the interim CEO Meera who by the way was the chief technology Officer at Open Aai. She ends up suggesting that Sam Alman will come back. That was as recently as 800 p.m.

Tonight, that's uh, November 19th 2023. Uh, well. the board went dark. They missed their 5:00 p.m.

deadline and the Bo and this is why we thought this 8800 p.m thing was likely going to happen because it was after the 500 p.m. deadline. So everybody's like okay, I guess that's what they're going with then that would seem normal. but no.

The board then blindsided everyone including Sam Alman again around 900 p.m. basically saying just kidding we're going to hire EMT Shear Okay, this EMT Shear guy is really interesting because he's liked a few uh dare I say sus' things on Twitter recently which are definitely making people a little skeptical about what's up with this EMT Shear guy EMT Shear actually liked this particular tweet that says congratulations to Ilia for taking his company back after Samman's nefarious coup. Okay, well, that's weird because that was liked yesterday and you have Sam Oldman who's actually had his friends tell the New York Times that Open AI was trying to run a coup against Sam Oldman so there was some kind of massive disaster that went on over there. Anyway, this amateure guy, We'll come back to him in just a moment.
Uh, actually, we'll just get into it right now. He was the CEO of Twitch. He was also the co-founder of Twitch. He resigned during a time he encouraged Twitch to basically say look, we need more money so we're going to share our revenues with Partners 50/50 instead of 7030.

So previously Partners would get 70 cents. Creators on Twitch just like YouTube would get 70 cents out of every dollar of AD revenue and the company would get 30% The CEO then again, emit cheer is like n we want to do 50/50 Okay, and this also you know he's now going to be the CEO of Openai. But what's weird is this is happening on the same or at the same time as the co-founder of Twitch. the other co-founder of Twitch.

The second guy Kyle who was the CEO of Cruz resigned today. So I guess both co-founders of Twitch are doing weird things today and shaking things up. Emt's becoming the CEO of Open Ai and Kyle resigned from Cruz Okay, well then to make it even crazier, the CEO of Microsoft Mr Nadela just hired Sam Alman Greg Brockman who was the previous president and the team Sam Alman's team to create a Microsoft AI team? Okay, so now the questions that are really circulating that are driving people pretty nutso right now are does Microsoft now de facto control all of Open AI Elon Musk already said that they did. Now it's like okay, is this the nail in the coffin? Did Microsoft basically just take a nonprofit own a stake in it enough to have the relationship with what was going on at Open AI Core out the talent and basically take a nonprofit and turn it into a mega profit.

It is now being suspected that Microsoft could end up end up becoming the most valuable company in the world as a result of this. Now that might be pure speculation because well, first of all, the company's only 7% away from that. If Apple dropped a few percentage points and Microsoft went up a few percentage points, Microsoft could be the most valuable company in the world tomorrow and it would make for some really good clickbait headlines. But the reality is they're kind of close to that.

Anyway, the question though really is did Microsoft get information that would lead them to believe that maybe artificial general intelligence was discovered at Open Ai and is Microsoft now in control of it? And should we all be afraid? Very afraid? Probably not. But there are some fears and possibilities that yes. First of all, it's worth remembering that right now. Open AI is really a company that has taught neural Nets how to understand human text and speech enough to basically respond in a way that makes you feel like a human is responding to you.
so you have a very smart neural net to make you feel like you're engaging with another human. But that level of AI is here and artificial general intelligence when AI rather than just responding to you in a way that it thinks you want to hear it respond like for example, if you're like, hey, you're a robot stuck in a box and then the language model is like oh well, how would a human respond to this if they were stuck in a box, well well, I'd want to get out So I want to get out I Want to kill my master right? Like Those are kind of things you would expect a human would say. So does that mean the AI has turned sentient like it is aware of its own existence and able to make its own decisions and then direct nuclear weapons at everyone? No. I don't think we're there yet I Think there's a long way to go before we get there? I I Really believe that? I Think these language learning models are cool and the graphic intelligence that we've seen or or the the graphic design that we've seen is wonderful.

I I'm not convinced that things are nuclear yet, although Andrew Kathy over who used to work at Tesla thinks otherwise given that he uh, just 3 hours ago right when Alis broke posted the nuke Emoji Elon Musk responded and said wow, now all of them have to use Microsoft teams I'm paraphrasing. but anyway, he was making a teams joke. So the big question though, is in the short term: what is this also going to do to Microsoft Stack? Well, given that it is now exactly 1:00 A.m. I can give you a little bit of a preview.

take a look at this. The pre-market just opened and there's the Microsoft. So you basically just had a company that went from oh my. God This is a disaster.

Our investment into Open Aai is potentially worthless. And not only that, but a lot of people were really concerned because Microsoft went out and said that quote Well, the CEO actually Mr Nadella said Microsoft can stand on its own two feet even if the multi-billion dollar relationship with Open AI collapses and people are like, wait, why do you need to say that like why wouldn't you be able to stand on your own feet if it wasn't for Open AI It was a little weird. it's certainly a little Sus, but anyway, think about it. Microsoft basically played the mega Uno reverse here they went from people being fearful about the future of Microsoft to now being you know now people being fearful about Microsoft because they have now somehow turned a nonprofit into a massive for-profit Remember Microsoft's already a company with like an 80% gross margin and 40% uh, net margin like they roughly speaking here.

they make massive money. Who's ready for the Netflix documentary Because holy hell this is one heck of a roller coaster. My goodness, gracious and all I have to say to that is just Close The Door CL door He.

I DARE SOME OF YOU TO THINK DIFFERENT… I don't know if you realize, but AGI has pretty much been here, pretty damn close anyway. Think beyond the headlines: Departures from OpenAI, like Sam Altman and Microsoft, not being associated with Open AI looks more like the disassociation from an inevitable outcome… a necessary outcome perhaps.

This all might be strategic moves to protect the brand and safeguard Sam Altman's name. Ilya's prior warnings about AGI being a threat were not made in vain. I also know the hospitals around here have all been breached in Canada, leading to the hospitals using pen and paper again. Why? We have to ask ourselves. When a world is transitioning, what’s at stake, where is it going in this change, and what is needed for that change to occur?

A pandemic, AI, a global economic shift all in the same decade?

I think we all agree the future of the world is AGI, digital transactions, secure digital identities, tokenization, participation, and consensus mechanisms that have governed heat checks by humans that decide how AGI progresses in a vast amount of fields and industries. None of us thought that blockchain was just some dumb useless tech sitting on the sidelines, I hope. Was this future not always inevitable?

The very idea that OpenAI was a nonprofit company is what likely had the majority of people feeling charitable and comfortable with accessing it and using it, probably one of the more clever ways to pool data at a level of curiosity and willingness like never seen before, if you ask me.

Anyhow, the only way a new tech that gets your biometrics and authentication of your humanity, the only way that tech gets ushered in, in a world like this is a necessary 'catastrophe'. A catastrophe is the only thing that can drive the shift towards the only tech that can authenticate your humanity and allow for a governed security-style protocol, one needed to keep AGI regulated and allow for a world of connection and automation. One again that needs your biometrics, people won't willingly give it up. You’ll give it up if you lose everything. You’ll give it up if you turn your phone on and have access to nothing. You’ll give it up to operate in this new world. This is inevitable.

Perhaps this is why Sam Altman and Microsoft not being associated with it is necessary, and the only person that can afford the association with it is the person that warned you of it, Ilya.

So in other words, I'm saying, just consider alternative approaches to this topic and be prepared because when the Europeans decided to raid the Americas, a technology that changed the world like guns happened overnight. What's about to happen is going to happen overnight.

Sorry for sounding so conspiracy-like, but the truth is the world is much stranger than fiction, and these kinds of events that are media appropriated are usually done with purpose

If you have the pleasure of working with Microsoft's B2B stuff you'll know it's frustrating that they charge you for literally anything and EVERYTHING. In a lot of cases their services can be buggy as hell as well. But on the flipside, it's great because I have stock in MSFT

A side note to the point of sentient AI. If you spend enough time learning how AI processes images and delve into the inner workings of the system, you will quickly realize how stupid it is. Even stupid might be high praise for it's level of intelligence. It's base level glorified coding.

AGI yea right… show me the money as it is said. He can make powerpoint of a text, but now they claim its artificial intelligence. Even children have creative thinking. How will you put that in a software that can respond only on information fed to them

board never intended to hire Altman back, it was just a stunt to downplay the initial bad news.
There is no AGI for at least 100+ years. An AGI would need to train itself and reconfigure itself in near real time and we are very far from that because of computing limitations.

Dangerous does not neccecarily mean sentient. A totally un-sentient system can still be catastrophically dangerous by being too good at achieving goals and working at a totally different time scale to us (we appear as super super slow motion to it). On command we did not think through (how could we, we are not as capable as it is to forsee all the consequences) or 1 bad actor using it (the power struggles around it will filter out any people hindered by "ethics" in charge) is enough.

Its not intelligence, it is an advanced file & statistic's recall system that can only display known information that has been published on the internet. It has no practical understanding of the real world and has no conceptual ability to understand the "why" of a situation. My real world experience of this comes from using AI to generate content for a website, I had to sell the idea of hiring bikes from my business to tour around a lake and wanted the AI to generate a paragraph about the sight seeing possibilities. It suggested the customers ride around the lake and then through the art gallery, it has no understanding of why you cant ride an e-bike through an art gallery. This is not an intelligence, it is an artificial memory.

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michael G says:

The tweet he liked was 100% correct and the primary reason behind all of this. There'd be no OpenAI without Ilya. He's the actual brains (ie PhD researcher) behind their success. Sam was taking the company in a different direction away from their initial mission. Ilya probably felt this was the only way to get things back on track.

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Hola! Isa says:

I think OpenAI has developed an AGI and that's what it's all about. OpenAI's board wants it to benefit all of humanity. The others (Sam Altman, Microsoft etc.) have a "problem" with that. But they cooperate while having conflicting interests in a battle for AI supremacy. Who will win that battle: Those who have an AGI or the others? I think it's the ones with an AGI.

Quote from OpenAI's website: “We designed OpenAI's structure—a partnership between our original nonprofit organization and a new limited-profit arm—as a chassis for OpenAI's mission: to build artificial general intelligence (AGI) that is safe and benefits all of humanity. The board decides when we have achieved AGI. Again, by AGI we mean a highly autonomous system that outcompetes humans for the most economically valuable work. Such a system is excluded from the IP licenses and other commercial terms of Microsoft, which apply only to pre-AGI technology."

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars LPXMFG says:

AI doesn’t need sentience to be considered an AGI
