Over the past week, the American Express Green Card got a pretty solid buff. Now this buff happened through the form of upgrading that welcome bonus offer where currently you can get 60 000 membership reward points after you spend just three thousand dollars in purchases. plus you can earn 20 back in statement credits on eligible travel and Transit purchases on up to two hundred dollars. If you combine that all up, it's a total of eight hundred dollars back minimum if you end up redeeming those points for just one cent to one point ratio.

Now, even with this all-time record high welcome Bonus offer is this card still worth getting? So to begin, the green card is really first of all. I Gotta say, it's just an interesting credit card in general and that's because it actually covers a lot of different spending categories. There was even a point where a few years back when they first came out the green card and they made the changes in the designs I even considered it to be you know, a little bit of a trash credit card before I even compare the green card to some of the other products on the market. I Just want to think of the green card as being a card that it's kind of like a of all trades.

It does everything well, but that means it's unable to really. Master the category or being really good at one specific thing kind of like this. YouTube Channel Just kidding guys, Just a joke. Y'all better not have laughed at that.

Now this card here does offer 3x on travel. 3x on Transit 3x back on dining and then you get 1X back on everything else for the year of 2023. I Would say that this card surprisingly fits really well in between the categories of the gold card and the platinum card and I would say it's still an essential piece to that. Amex Trifecta Alternatively, even myself included I've talked a lot about the Chase Trifecta setup.

That's the first setup that I began running when I got into the Points of Model Space about five years back, and there's good reason for it. Once you begin to add up every single one of the American Express credit card Annual fees you realize that it adds up to be a substantial amount, especially if we had compared it to the Chase. Trifecta Now the AmEx Green Card doesn't just stop there because you can also get a 189 dollar statement credit per calendar year after you pay for your clear Plus Membership Guys, if you don't have any credit card that gives you a clear plus membership for someone who's been using it for the past few years, I Love it! One of the things that stressed me out the most before any flight is just the fact that I don't know how how long I'd have to wait in a line and within the area like I live in the DC area. Sometimes these lines get really, really long.

Clear has come in clutch many times and I Always loved the employees working there. They've always been in a good mood I Don't know why, at least in the dullest area, they've always been really funny, really nice at least that I can remember. and for the fact that you can get this for free on your credit card I Feel like that's just another given bonus. On top of that, the green card also gives you an additional benefit which is a 100 Lounge buddy credit if you don't have any one of the Premier Elite travel credit cards like the Platinum or the Sapphire Reserve You can find that through this Lounge Buddy app if you want to stay at whatever lounge.
if you get delayed if your flight gets canceled, you'd be able to walk in there with a day pass without having to commit to any other credit card. just in case you've never used Lounge Buddy before. It is really simple so I'll type in the airport closest to me. The way that one of my local airports work is that they have different concourses I Know most airports have it in this structure too, but sometimes if I go into Concourse a I would have to go all the way back into that security line if I wanted to go back into Concourse C which could make people sometimes miss their flight if you don't time it.

well. in that case, if I use a app like Lounge buddy and I want it to stay a concourse A and my flight leaves out of concourse 8. but I had no credit card that allowed me to stay in one of those uh lounges I would just pick any one of them that is listed here. we'll do Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse you can see photos of it see how it's laid out.

Seems like a decent Lounge not too terrible I just got like a little second floor looks nice. This is going to be 65 dollars per traveler if I travel with two people I put it in with the time and then I could see the package I can go book it for three hour access and then if I had put this on my green card I'll get a hundred dollars back on top of that. This card also gives you no foreign transaction fee. so no matter where you're traveling, you can make sure that you're not dealing with any excess fees.

Believe it or not, that does come in handy quite a bit. So when it comes to using this card, I mean I Feel like it's pretty straightforward. It acts as a good substitute platinum card I would even consider maybe like a baby platinum card because of their featured benefits. you get the Clear Credit You also get the lounge buddy access you get 3x back on travel 3x on Transit So that really does cover a lot of the traveling expenses.

And then if you happen to be using your card for eating out and say you don't have the gold card for whatever reason, this still allows you to get Triple the points. Now if I were to compare the green card to any other credit card out on the market I Feel like it comes the most closest to the Chase Sapphire preferred as its slight Edge competitor. This is because they both have pretty similar Annual fees. green card has 150 every year.

the CSP has it for 95 and obviously if you're a bit more sensitive to those Annual fees, the CSP might still be a better card. but I Feel like in terms of the flexibility of the different point offerings you get and even the travel credits, this card almost comes up just a bit stronger than the Chase app. I Prefer Now, this is definitely going to be more of a subjective opinion depending on how you value those points whether you like Amex more than Chase or whether or not you really value those Chase Ultimate reward points. but I actually want to hear from you guys.
Oh, and by the way, if you guys do also want to learn more about this card, or if you're interested in applying for the Chase Sapphire I prefer to be sure to check out the links Down Below in the description or you can also scan the QR code somewhere here on the screen. Now when it comes to further details about this card, my assumption is that most people are going to have one or the other. Most people are going to have either the gold card or the Platinum Card within your setup. If that's the case, if you pair the Platinum up with the green card, you're gonna have a very strong travel setup.

The green card is going to serve as your catch-all card and your platinum card is going to be your benefits and your luxury status card. lounge access, purchase, protection, even just travel insurance, delay. Things like that, those type of benefits that you get on the Platinum Card are really unbeatable. Now on the other hand, if you pair the Green Card up with the American Express Gold Card, you're pretty much covering a lot of utility in any type of local city usage.

Whether you live in New York City whether you live in the DC area or you're from Los Angeles and you're always on foot and you like checking out certain cities I Feel like this card could also be very, very powerful for those type of people. But if I were to answer the question on who this card really is meant for, I would say that the American Express Green Card just considered to be a nice catch-all travel credit card. Very flexible. Say you're like me, where you have the platinum and the gold card within your wallet.

Would the Green Card still be worth it? Well, just off the pure fact that if you're able to spend three thousand dollars in the first six months of card ownership, you will be coming out ahead. I Don't think you need to do much more math than that. I Think it's pretty straightforward and if you do end up getting this card and you don't want to pay the annual fee the year after that, you could cancel it out. Now by the way, just to give you a full picture on how good this welcome bonus offer really is.

The American Express gold card is offering the same thing 60 000 points, but the green green card is going to give you an additional 200 back remember the 20 back in statement credits on eligible travel and Transit purchases. and also you have to spend just a thousand dollars less than what the gold card would require. Now on the topic of welcome bonus offers. just remember that even on like Chase American Express only allows you to get the welcome bonus offer once on a card.
So if you do end up ever signing up for a card, make sure that it is the highest offer that you know of and at least with the green card historically, right now it is. so I Want to hear your guys's thoughts on the American Express green card because I Have a feeling that my audience is going to be a little bit split and torn on it if I were working within. American Express I Personally think it would have been a better choice if they just revamped the card entirely. They could have kept the benefits, but instead of it being called the green card if it was branded similar to how the gold card and the platinum card is branded, maybe like the American Express bronze card or the Emerald Card I think it would have performed a bit better.

This is because when people hear about getting a green card, it's usually something else and not this type of product either. Either way, if you guys want to learn more about this card or if you're interested in applying for this card at all, be sure to check out the links Down Below in the description. I got the gold card last month with 60k welcome points, and the green card this September with only 40k points. Bummer on that, I didn't catch the 60k for the green!

  4. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michael Prieto says:

If they added and "entertainment" category for 3x on this card it would do the trick.

  5. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Leeza Robertson says:

As a road tripper this card is really good, we just used it for a recent trip and it was wonderful, especially seeing as we did a lot of transit, parking and tours. My only wish for this card is a gas multiplier.

  6. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Just Another Random Disney Fanatic says:

Best card for people who don’t travel a lot but still want good perks for when they do. The economy card 😂

I’d prefer the green card from USCIS over this one.

Brian, the Green card I would not change the name or image. The card is so retro and so iconic especially when you see Amex commercials from 30+ years ago.

does the 3x points for restaurants work for Uber Eats?

  11. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Curmudgeon Extraordinaire says:

The Green card is Amex’s iconic charge card. So, no, they should not have renamed it.

  12. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars stonedig says:

I love my amex green. It's also great for those who travel on Amtrak, stay in campgrounds, and go on cruises (3x on each). One other thing I would love for it to have is a 3x or 2x on gas. Then it would be perfect for travelers.

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Spencer Johnson says:

For the bonus alone, I'd say this card is worth it for a lot of people right now. Great video once again Brian!

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars David says:

By far the biggest benefit of the Green card is the versatility of traveling. 3rd party travel sites like Air BNB/ Expedia all count 3x while only 1x on the Platinum. Also 3x for taxis/ rideshare/ car rentals/ subways etc. This card is awesome in conjunction with the platinum/ gold card to catch everything else travel related. I have all 3 and love them all!

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars kc chandler says:

Wish green card had gas as a category.

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Rodel Media says:

Plat and Green just need to combine into one for the ultimate card.

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Amir Moradi says:

I agree the green can be better than the preferred, but don't forget the preferred's $50 hotel credit

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Rotten Soul says:

Hey Brian how do you check if a credit card has the best historic offer?

I mean you said it on this green card already is the best historic offer.

But how can I check for every other card before I apply?

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Rotten Soul says:

Nice I didn't know you were in the DMV area I'm also here

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars HibiscusStar14 says:

It's a pretty solid card. Would love it if it had a gas category though.

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars maXican American says:

This card should be an exclusive 7% cash back on all transit rides

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Rich V says:

They need to buff the Gold some more

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Nana qwequ says:

I just downgraded from a platinum to a green card. So far it feels like the CSP on steroids for the fact that it doesn’t have a limit.

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Clinton Hauck says:

Hi Brian. I would love your guidance. I have an 800 credit score and tier 1 credit customer. I just signed up for the CSR card and I have the freedom unlimited as well as the Costco card. My wife has the CSP and the no annual fee Capital One Venture card.

I'm looking for a couple things. A card that will pay for the annual CLEAR membership for my wife and I and a card to be my catch all card for non special categories. IE: paying all my monthly recurring bills such as utility, gym membership, ID theft services etc…Can you tell me which two cards I should get to achieve what I'm looking for? Oh, we travel at least twice per year. Thank you so much for your guidance.

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Rominecko K. says:

If they can make it 3% on gas instead of dining (I got 4% with Gold Card) and 2% on everything else I'll get one tomorrow

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ike Voorhies says:

Question, if I book a hotel via Hilton or Marriott, will I still get that 3x multiplier for the booking???

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michael Barker says:

The Amex used to be the gold and green cards when I was a kid. It definitely wasn’t “new” a few years ago. It came out in 1969. Maybe the points, or benefits is what you mean, but even that was decades ago
