Some short sellers can think that letting a stock go to zero — or GTZ — is the best-case scenario. Wrong.
Take it from Michael Goode. He knows from experience just how ugly things can get.
First, you gotta know which stocks are at risk of losing value — often it’s with stocks going bankrupt. Seems like a no-brainer, right? These stocks will dwindle all the way down to nothing.
But here’s the thing … When a stock is wiped out, the company has to tell the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation to delete the stock.
And that doesn’t always happen. So that stock can just sit there … and sit there. If you’re shorting it, it can cost you borrow fees and eat up your margin indefinitely. Avoid this at all costs.
Goode’s been holding one of these stocks for years, waiting for it to be deleted.
Tune in to learn what to watch for and what to absolutely avoid. Because you don't wanna end up shorting a stock and suddenly there's no market for it.
The same goes for halts. Find out what happens when trading on a stock is halted by the SEC and how that can play out on the OTC markets or the NYSE and Nasdaq.
Today’s video is packed with key lessons for shorting smarter. Don’t let your account get tied up in worthless stocks or fall prey to endless borrow fees...
The good news? There are ways to get around this. Tune in as Goode explains how he has in the past.

Short selling can potentially be a great edge to have — if you understand it … But you must know the downsides and risks. Remember to trade smart. Don’t enter a trade if you’re not sure and always cut your losses quickly.

I am in a similar position as Michael back then. Holding 10k shares long in SPNX that went bankrupt and cancelled the stock yesterday… Is there a chance to find someone with short position and send him shares to cover in exchange for money? And how to find someone with short position, already posted it on twitter.😔

What do you mean at the end by “that is now locked”? What gets locked?
