We've been institutionalized to think that the smart, safe, stable and generally best way of making your way in life is going out there and getting a job.
It used to be the case that you'd get a job locally to where you live, work at the same place for 40 years and then retire after making the most of your job for life.
Those times are long gone.
People don't stick around in jobs for much longer than 2-3 years let alone a lifetime. The current economic downturn and the ongoing changes in how companies operate mean that the myth of security in having a job has evaporated.
Working for yourself carries a lot of risks - you don't have the relative certainty of money landing in your bank account every single month no matter what happens.
You are the maker of your own fortune - if you do well, you earn a good amount of money. If you go through a tough patch, be prepared to tighten the belt.
I go through a comparison of the two ways of thinking and tell you why your perception of why jobs are the better way may be outdated.

Great video – completely agree. Modern world suffers from learned helplessness’ – they’ll stay in employment & spend their life complaining about their employer, the industry, average salary and colleagues, yet do nothing to change their life.

Such a nice an clearly explained video, I wonder why only 1 comment an such low numbers of views? I pass through this process of abandoning a $180k annual salary job to run a business with 1 employed (myself) and a current turnover of $1.2 mil working only from home. With another 2 streams of income coming next year I expect to double this amount. Still with 1 employed.
