Elon knows he's running a failing company all the signs are there he's subsidizing the cost of cars, he's refusing to ask "boring" questions during their earnings call when in reality those are questions a high school student in any basic accounting class would ask. Further more he is calling people "pedos" because they didn't use his idea. He's salty about being the most shorted stock on wall street, and is getting stressed about the debt he's accumulating.

Ha!! I knew eventually this news would come out. I admire the man but he is full of lies. He needs to keep it real and not make false statements. Sorry Elon.. admire you but this was unstoppable. Truth comes out.

Elon has previously made announcements that made the assumption of a deal being made when in reality Elon had just begun talks with the other party. For example, with the boring company when he announced that he had a talk with mayors who agreed to let him begin construction. Those mayors later denied these announcements, claiming that they never even had the discussion with Elon. (in reality, I think they were beginning talks and Elon tried forcing their hand, shot himself in the foot.)

I think this is the case here. Elon has been tossing the idea around with some parties, but I doubt anything is set in stone yet. My guess is that the early announcement is in an attempt to push the price up while talks are still in process, thus allowing Elon to elicit more money per share. If the deal falls through, at least he squeezed out some short sellers in the process.

I doubt Elon is dense enough to get involved with the manipulation of his own stock, and or insider trading but you never know! should be interesting to see it play out.

Everyone who has bet against Elon Musk has lost money. Washington Insiders and Insiders in his company know that Elon Musk has HUGE military industrial deals for satelites and different types of weapons that make TESLA Motors look like a hobby company.

Why do you think half the TESLA factory is TOP SECRET? They're building weapons.

Just imagine for ONE MOMENT the types of weapons Elon Musk can build. Sleek, efficient, not to mention the fact that Elon has an AI think tank that Rivals Google and Google had been spending BILLIONs, while Elon just has the smartest people.

Elon Musk and TESLA Motors are a distraction, they are an iceberg hiding a nuclear submarine.

I agree with many comments here. Elon musk can't just say I'm buying out the company and then later pretends that nothing happened and not buying it. That's illegal.

You are so neutral that even forgot to mention the SEC investigation(s). That is all that matters at this stage, not whatever you think or whether shareholders sue or not. If the SEC deems this announcement illegal there will be a few folk going behind bars and the short term issues faced by this company become completely different.

I can see him actually wanting to go private

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ephraim Elston says:

Does Amazon worry about short sellers as distractions? Does Jeff Bezos troll on twitter into the wee hours of the night? Maybe twitter is the distraction for Elon? Or the 5 other companies he runs simultaneously? The argument that being private would be less "distracting" is a cop out. Why can't Elon just prove the shorts wrong and stop complaining? Why is he so worried about the shorts? According to the earnings call just last week, Tesla is about to become profitable forever….

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Rickoshay says:

The reason Tesla needs to go private is to stop the old school media feeding frenzy and oil / petrol car lobbyists pushing an anti Tesla traditionalist agenda.

Starting an ordinary car company at any time would be an extremely difficult task but starting a game changing one in this day and age is a formidable one and certainly not about short term profit and delivery projections that the media seem to feed on. I suppose they have limited vision so we need to feel sorry for them. And most are dinosaurs and will be dead in a few years anyway.

Most traditional media in the US are not to be trusted – they are desperate for ad revenue and what little social media exposure they can get and will go to any length to keep their few remaining clients happy.

The big lumbering old school US media companies are some of the most corrupt companies in the world – continuing to push the agendas of the oil and petrol motor industry – who really don't like change and some young upstart shaking things up.

I think objectively, he would love Telsa to be private. But at a ridiculous $74 billion valuation and with their current debt interest rates of about 9.75%, who would be so insane as to pay $74 billion for a company that needs to make $488 million in interest payment a month before any benefit to stakeholders? It's obviously not a rational discussion. Obviously this was a move to push out short sellers. I love Elon. But this could Martha Stewart him.

There is zero benefit to announcing this if the plan is in the works. It just makes any potential deal less likely. More probable is he was freaked by the Saudi's taking a stake almost big enough to get a seat on the board and really wanted to burn the short sellers.

That said, he gets almost 100% negative press from the financial media. Remember, Telsa spends almost nothing on marketing. But 3 of the top 6 advertisers on TV are car companies. And 6 out of the top 21 advertisers are car companies and insurers of cars. So the financial media could lose more than 10% of their revenue if Tesla is a success. So they constantly over hype anything negative on Tesla. Elon had enough. His response was a human nature reaction to all this negative coverage. But it could land him in jail.

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Theodore McIntosh says:

I’ve never owned it but I can understand the legal action, his tweet was unethical. Musk at best has loose lips and is excited about a deal, at worse he’s out to manipulate share price.

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars markzzzzzzable says:

I think Tsla goes back to 300…hasn't been that long since they were there…..over hyped and way over valued imho…

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Christian Rios says:

So let me see if I got this right. Elon sent a tweet saying that he was planning on making Tesla private and he was going to offer $420 per stock. And a guy that was shorting Tesla heard about the news and decided to cut his losses due to Tesla's quick rise and purchase shares at $376. Hoping he would make his money back and then some after Elon bought out every share at $420. But now it seems Elon won't be making Tesla private and the tweet he sent was for people to buy the stock and help it rise and also to get rid of the short sellers.

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Lazim Sharar says:

He has a habit of doing stuff like this. remember his april fools "tesla is bankrupt" fiasco?

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Graham Ward says:

he may have secured enough money to do it in his dealings with China. but i think it was a joke, getting high at 420.

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars XULTAIFF𖤐 says:

I say we all short sale Tesla then 🤣
