Tesla is making a China push β and that is very interesting. Tesla just received permission from the Chinese government to register the new Model Y, made in China, for sale in China and this is huge. The Model Y is expected to start production in early 2021, and is expected to sell about 350K units in its first year in china. However, there is a bigger play here. China is aiming to a 20% of all cars be electric by 2025, and with roughly 30 million cars sold annually in china, we are talking about 6 million electric cars in china alone within 4 years. Thatβs going to be an insane market for Tesla in the next few years, and that is without even mentioning the energy business, the insurance business, the new battery and the 25K car, all of which TSLA is developing on the back burner. That is why I think the Tesla stock price by end of 2020 will be 500$.

I am NOT a Tesla basher or short seller. I'm long on them. But understand one thing about Tesla in China: it was a big mistake for them to go there. The CCP is stacking the deck against Tesla. The government recently specified that only EVs with swappable batteries will receive tax credits. Nio and PENG fit this requirement. Tesla does not. And the very recent treatment given Jack Ma and Ant group should give investors pause. I think the money Tesla's invested in the Shanghai factory is oing to prove to have been a monumental, if recoverable mistake.

Good show, but I disagree that Tesla will get rid of Panasonic. Tesla needs all of the batteries they can get their hands on. The will be producing their own battery and will quickly ramp-up production and produce these new batteries at the Fremont, Berlin, and Texas Gigafactories, but they will also need all the batteries they can get from Panasonic, CATL, and LG Chem to grow a fast as they plan on growing selling EVs and stationary storage. Why would they team up with CATL and LG Chem in addition to renewing the contract with Panasonic. See the Battery Day presentation. Tesla explains it all there.
