In this video I tell you how to Budget and Cost a Refurb and how to Find Good and Reliable Contractors. Budgeting or costing a Refurb/Remodel is very important to ensure that costs don’t go overboard and that you can stick to a set budget and make a good profit. Finding good quality tradesmen is also equally important to ensure that you don’t get ripped off or end up with a really bad piece of work.
Budgeting a Refurb – 00:00 - 09:25
I recommend setting up a spreadsheet and dividing it into different sections to keep track of costs in the different rooms for your Refurb. I would also recommend keeping track of how much the items cost and where to buy them from. My favourite kitchen suppliers at the moment are DIY kitchens and Howdens. Kitchens come in two forms, flat packed and rigid, both of these have their advantages and disadvantages. Next up is the kitchen, here you will need to ensure that you budget for the toilet, sink, bath tub, shower and also other things such as the cistern, waste, shower pump etc.
Finding good and reliable contractors/tradesmen - 09:25 - 13:30
My top tip to find good tradesmen for a Refurbishment is to use Facebook Groups, such as ‘Bournemouth friends’ or ‘Slough buy and sell’, here you can search the group for people looking for a recommendation for a kitchen fitter or a tiler or a plumber, a number of people will comment on these posts giving their best recommendations and any advice on who you should stay away from. This is a great way to find reliable and good contractors as these reviews cant be faked in numbers and negative reviews cant be deleted like they can on other review websites such as TrustPilot or CheckATrade.
