Alright guys, so we're going to do a little review of Hot Keys all right now. as you guys know, I use hot keys a lot. The advantage of course is that they allow you to get in trades quickly and sometimes more importantly, get out of trades quickly. So when I set up hot keys for the most part the hot keys that I'm using, they're designed for quick exits.

when I get into a trade, most of my trades are pretty well thought-out so I've already prepared my order pre market, usually pre market or I prepared my order while a stock is pulling back with the intention of getting in on the first pull back. So let's see. I've got a level 2 window I can show you so you can see what it looks like. just grab that.

So basically when I'm preparing an order, I just simply type in into my level 2, the position, size, the price I want to pay the route and then all I have to do is click send so the order is ready. All I have to do is click send when the market opens and here's the here's what my level 2 looks like. Alright, so I type this in here, share size, the route, the price, that's my account and then I just click buy so I can have four of these setup ready to go now. I don't really need the hot keys to set these up, but I do have a couple of hot keys that I use from time to time.

Let me move this back out of the way here so I'll put that back down here. So the hot keys that I use for preparing order I can adjust the price. so key up is the price up by one penny if I press the control button and key up but the price is going to go up by ten cents. Key down is the down down one penny.

Key down with a control button is down ten cents. so I can very quickly move up and down. Price: Alright I can press control s and the focus will go on to the share size spot here on my level two. So if I'm on price typing in price and then I hit troll s we'll go over to the mouse.

We'll go over to here automatically and I can go quickly type a different share size if I want to. All right and then if I want to go back to price I go back to control P for price. Now importantly, if I have any open orders or I have an order where I got a partial fail or I want to cancel it for whatever reason I just press ctrl Q cancel the order that will cancel all open orders all right. Now if I want to just buy, I just want to jump into something that's running I don't have time to prepare my order I can press shift F 1 and that'll buy on Arca or I can press shift 1 and that'll buy on on this route right Here Itgi Okay, so I can choose which route I want I've customized it right here in the command section and then I just select this key.

So shift 1 2 3 is by 1000 2000 3000. Alright now, I mostly would use just a regular route. Like this Arc is more expensive, but sometimes it can be useful if the stock is maybe very thinly traded and you want a little bit of a better fill. Arca usually gives pretty good fills, but then you're paying a higher price.

Okay, so in general though, I don't use those hotkeys because I don't want to impulsively buy I want to buy very calculated I want to think about how much I'm risking right? What's my stop? What's my profit target? So that means for the most part, I'm going to be typing in my orders right here, lining them up and then getting ready to hit the Buy button. Alright, so more importantly then is selling All right. So my selling hotkeys? That's where. that's where.
I'm mostly using hotkeys. So ctrl Z X and C those are going to sell my either full position, half position, or quarter position ten cents below the bids. So this is going to be a limit order. It's going to go ten cents below the bit.

So if the bid is four dollars, the limit order will be four 390. Obviously I want to get filled at four dollars, but if a stock is just dropping and I need to get out and I'll you know, take some slippage. It'll give me ten cents of slippage. All right.

So that's selling half quarter, half full, half and quarter positions on the bid below the bid. All right. now. Alternatively, you can see up here: Route: C C MX This is a dark pool routing so you can route to the dark pools and ping the dark pools.

So I'm going to press Ctrl-z as usual, but also press down the alt button all right. So I'll sell the full behalf of the core position again on the bid, giving it a little less slippage in this in this key hockey all right and using a different route for some reason. I try to bail out with this route itgi and the quarter just sits there or it doesn't work then that's fine. That sometimes happens.

I'll just go and choose another route and I can select routes right here. Control: I will be itg itgi Control J is Jpcc control M is just a market order and control D is CCM X for the dark pools. Okay, so those are my orders for selling on the bid. bailing out.

Now What? I Also sell is up on the offer so you can see adding liquidity. If you sell on the offer, you're adding liquidity to the market. All right. So that's selling up on the ask.

Alright, so if we look at our level two window, that would be putting shares automatically at 519. So instead of having to type, you know I want to sell half positions I want to sell 1000 at 519 I Just hit this key right here. Control: L and I'll sell automatically half my position my open position times 0.5 So that's one half the price is the ask. that's the current ask.

Alright, so I can sell again full position, half position, or quarter position up on the ask. So often times when I'm in a trade that's running, I'll go and put a quarter position up on the Aston see if I can get out, see if someone wants to buy my shares off the offer. So I'll put up maybe a quarter or half. So when I say alright, I just sold half I had an order sitting up on the ask waiting to get filled.

So I'm just sitting there waiting and you know eventually hopefully there'll be some buyers that come and grab my shares. Alternatively, I could have an order up on the ass trying to sell half and then realize you know what? I Just want to be safe here. I'm going to go ahead and sell half on the bid so I can have another order to sell half on the bid and still have that open orders sell half on the ask and maybe you know they'll both go at the same time and then I'm all out. or maybe one will go on the bid and then you know I'm still waiting on the ask or I can cancel the order and put a another one up there.
But in any case, the hot keys that I use most frequently are selling on the bid and selling on the ask and of course cancelling orders and adjusting orders. Alright, so those are the hot keys right there. and then this right here is just your standard level 2 window from Direct Access Software. All right.

It's pretty simple. It does take a little bit of getting used to. It's always a good idea to practice your hotkeys because you can make hotkey mistakes. One of the reasons I don't have hotkeys or I don't use hotkeys for shorting is because sometimes I'll accidentally short when I intend to buy and that can be a really big mistake.

So I just have my hotkeys lined up to be long cuz I'm a long buy straighter so that works well for me. Alright guys, hopefully that's helpful. Anyone that has questions, please reach out. Ross At Warrior Trading Com.

Hey Ross. I know it's 7 years past you made this video and you may not even see my question, but if you do, could you please kindly make a new video for your hotkeys because you may have changed some or many of your hotkeys since then? Thank you either way😊😊👍

Thank you for this video. I think this has been the missing piece of my trading strategy. Question for you …

Are you NEVER using the hot keys to buy or do you just like to avoid it? Trying to figure out if I should just skip programming any buy hot keys

Question: is there a way to create a hot key that sets your entry order to a moving average (for example the 9ema) that changes along with that moving average until it’s filled??

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Habib Karbasian says:

Thank you Ross for your amazing videos. I have a question.

I am wondering when you want to bail out of the trade and sell all of the shares, why would you sell it with limit order @ last bid – 10 cents? Isn't it better to sell it as Market Price which guarantees selling the shares completely as opposed to limit order that might have a chance of not getting filled?

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Blockman Sats⚡️ says:

Ross. Can you clarify sell at ask vs sell at bid? Im confused. And would you ever use sell at market for any reason? Thanks

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ramaniana says:

Hi Ross. What is your take on using dollarvalue instead of a set sharesize on hotkeys? It's to go into a trade with the same exposure no matter if the stock is worth 5 or 10 dollars.

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Program Websites says:

Hey Ross thanks for the video I think you gave me enough to be able to figure this out but just have two questions.

#1.) If I want to be a short biased trader with great fills would I be setting up shorting hot keys -3 cents below the bid?
#2.) The best exit strategy for covering my shorts would be to do a LMT at 3 cents above the ask as a short seller?

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ammar says:

wooow dude………. QuestTrade doesn't have sell 1/4, 1/2, or 1/1 keys. They don't have custom hotkeys at all which is terrible

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars D H says:

Thanks, Ross! I've been practicing with my hotkeys over the past week. I like the idea of having the Sell@Bid include a small cushion. I also like how you don't use the hot keys to buy shares in order to avoid shorting mixups (I just had one of those today that accidentally worked in my favor). Looking forward to applying this info.

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Alberto Santana says:

Need help configuring a hotkey in tradestation – Having a cash account… Is it possible to create a hotkey that execute a buy/sell at the bid/ask price listed on the lev 2 and also, executing this with full buying/selling power (full equity). If yes… HOW? Thanks in advance!
