Warrior Trading // Ross Cameron // Day Trade Warrior

What's up everyone? All right? So today is day 10 of the TD Ameritrade Side Hustle Challenge Another green day. So I'm on a nice little hot streak here. I've had one red day in the last ten days of trading into the Ameritrade and then nine green days today I'm up a hundred bucks. It's not a home run, but it's another base hit.

I Really feel like I do for a nice, solid big win. But the problem of course is that I don't have margin or leverage in this account. so I have $4,300 in it. But you know I can't I could buy 2,000 shares of a stock priced $2 and under and anything above that I can only buy, you know, well, less than 2,000 So 1,000 shares, 1500? whatever.

And in order to have a nice five, $600 winner I either need to get 20 30 cents or 2,000 shares or you know, 50 60 cents for the thousand And those are some big wins I Haven't gotten them yet. So during this recap, I'm going to talk about one of the struggles of training with a small account. It's a psychological struggle of being okay with these small gangs, the feeling that you need to get a big win to, really, you know, prove that this is time well spent, you know, and the fact that when you set an expectation to get $1,000 winner for instance, when you're only trading with 500 shares, it's it's unrealistic. It's not gonna happen nine out of ten times.

If you start swinging for that, you're gonna give up a lot of base hits as you do that. So you know that's kind of a struggle of being in the small account being totally okay with with slow progress at first, knowing that once the account grows up to a certain level and you're able to trade more frequently and larger positions, then you can really be off to the races. But it's that first you know the first few weeks, the first few months depending on what size account you start with, it can be a little slow. And of course if you do end up having that one big red day that just you know seems to always happen from time to time, you can feel like a real setback.

So you know that's kind of what we're gonna talk about during the recap. That's a little bit of what I'm dealing with right now and in this phase of growth in the small account. but I do think I'm due for a bigger green day here coming up in the next few and I'm hoping that opening happens. But I also got to make sure I steer clear of the high-risk trades that could result in the unnecessary loss.

So I'm just trying to navigate the market and find those winners. As always questions, Comments: leave them below I'll see you guys first thing at tomorrow morning for my of course regular trading account and I'll see you guys for the next. TD Ameritrade Small Account Challenge Update: Alright, see you later Okay everyone, so we're gonna do our TD Ameritrade small Count challenge recap here: I'm finishing the day up a hundred bucks. it's not a home run day I'm gonna let's see type it in here.

L.e.d.s is the stock. I traded up $100 on it, bought a thousand shares, made 10 cents a share so In Out took the base hit. Unfortunately I didn't fully capitalize on the market today with my TV account. I did quite well in my main account which is terrific.
but in the TV account you know I have a couple limitations and the first one would be the account size. I've only got $4,300 in here. so when I see a stock like BL pH this morning which I traded in my main account, well I bought this stock at what was it this was this morning. so I'll jump forward it this morning.

it was like nine dollars and fifty cents or ten dollars. You know that with this small account, I could only buy 200 shares and I would use all of my buying power and I don't know that I could make fifty cents a share I don't know that that's a realistic expectation I wasn't able to do it with my main account so it seems like that would be setting the bar a little too high. Sometimes traders when they trade with a small account, they'll think well if I'm sure I'm only I can only afford. You know, in this example, let's say a hundred shares of L.e.d.s and I really want to be making a hundred dollars a day.

So that means I need to buy it at nine dollars and sell it at ten dollars I need to make a full dollar a share. And that's not a realistic expectation. If you were able to consistently make a dollar a share out of the market, think about how you would be able to scale that strategy from a hundred shares to a hundred a day to a thousand to a thousand a day to five thousand to five thousand dollars a day. Five thousand dollars days, a million dollars a year, and up to 10,000 to 15,000 20,000 There's not a lot of traders out there that consistently pull $1 a day out of the market.

so to expect to do it as a very beginner trader unrealistic expectation. And yet that's what a lot of beginner traders do. They'll think well. I'm only trading with 100 shares and to justify my time I need to be making you know at least you know, fifty or hundred bucks.

So my two cents on this is that I won't trade stocks with just a hundred shares. I'm gonna focus on the stocks that I can afford to buy and hopefully at least a thousand shares of. And so L.e.d.s priced at two dollars and twenty five or thirty cents I could afford a thousand shares. so I bought a thousand shares of it and within a couple of really moments I was up a hundred bucks.

So I took the profit off the table. This was a little bit of a sluggish trade and I did feel that I got in a little high and you can see that it hit a high here of 43. It went a little higher after I got out, but you know I got in and took my profit as it was squeezing up I knew the 200 moving average was right here. Had it halted on a circuit breaker, I probably would have been fine holding into that and then thinking it's gonna gap higher and we'll get a test of three.

That's basically what happened on KBS F this morning and I took this trade on KBS F in my main account. it pops up right here and squeezes up and gets halted. It hits a high of 315 and ended up being from the first time I hit the scanner KBS F hit our scanner. Let's see where was this down here at 258.
So from 258 all the way up to you know to 87 to 93 15, that's a nice. That's a nice trade and I could have taken that with a thousand shares except that I wasn't fast enough in my main account. So this is kind of a nice thing with I can click anywhere up here and start typing right? So L.e.d.s so I go switch I want to switch to KBS F just like that. Now that's that's some fast typing.

I've you know I've warmed up I'm pretty warmed up right now. you know. had a good hour of trading. but you know the fact is I can I can click anywhere on here so something hits the scanner.

Boom I'm in. You know if I type o it? whatever I can fix it with this, You know I have to click right in this window I can pull it up and then I click this by market button and then I have to wait a second or two because the executions are not as fast. So in Z Bzzt the Nasdaq test stock. Watch this.

I'm going to press shift 1 and look how fast that is. it's almost instantaneous. Sell half sell half sell half I mean it's almost as soon as I'm pressing the button I see my position update and that's called direct access route it I'm direct access and I can trade very very quickly. That's not the way TD Ameritrade has setup, that's not the way they operate which is fine.

TD Ameritrade is free and in some ways you get what you pay for there. And so if you're doing a side hustle challenge you're using TD Ameritrade or using Etrade or any of the other free brokers out there, you can't expect that the executions will be as fast as they are with direct access brokers over here. I pay for the Commission I pay each trade so it's gonna cost a little more. but I think I again get what I pay for there I get value I get that fast execution and on something like K BSF this morning I just wasn't able to get over here, type it in fast enough to take the trade and so it didn't happen.

So you know unfortunately that means with TD I I miss out on some of the trades that are nice opportunities and of course the bigger winner today for me on my big account was my O which I honestly just thought was too expensive to trade in the small account so you know kind of working with what I've got right now. but I'm making progress I think today is my 8th 8th day of trading in the account. I've had one red day and every other day has been a green day. Granted they've been small green days, but it's about you know, slowly building some momentum and as the account grows from, you know, a thousands of 2 - 3, - 4, - 5, - 6.

whatever. you know, whatever you start with, - whatever it grows, - your buying power is growing as well and then you'll get to a point where that equity curve will start to move up a little bit faster. and I do think that I am I'm really due for a nice 400 $2,000 green day, but in order for that to happen I'm gonna need to step up to the plate on something like KB SF and get into it before it halts. you know, and we already be up to one of your thirty cents going into the hall holding the full position it opens and then continues higher.
That'll mean I need a trade quickly in, probably in order to get a really nice big trade like that. But of course traits like that also carry a little more risk. and I really don't want to have a big loss in this account. so slow and steady is not a bad way to focus on growing the account.

Right now, it seems to be working well, so eight-day I believe I'm averaging around a hundred and fifty dollars a day. maybe a little more than that. So I've been doing pretty well here a couple bigger days around 300, but I haven't had a $500 green day yet. so I'm hoping that I'll get one here in the next, hopefully in the next few days that I trade in this account.

All right. So that's it for me again. you know there are hotkeys here in TD Ameritrade I Have not found them to work super consistently and sometimes the platform lags a little bit I know a lot of people have been complaining about that I'm sure it'll get better once they fix whatever is causing the issue, but it has. It has made it to be a little bit of a difficult time to be using this platform.

Hopefully some of you guys are watching this recap six months from now or a year from now. You don't even have to worry about this issue because they've they fixed it. but you know this is what I'm doing my Side Hustle Challenge so you know I've got to work with what I've gotten them doing the best I can. So that's the TD Ameritrade Side Hustle Challenge I Think this is day 8, maybe day 9, maybe day 7 I can't remember 100% but in any case, another Green Day and I'm gonna be back at it as always.

first thing tomorrow morning. so I'll see you guys in the morning. All right bye everyone! Hey, have you seen my most popular video on YouTube It's got over 5 million views. Hi, Ross! Love this challeenges. Just have one question with td ameritrade: to sell, they take very long time if i join de ask. If i try to take 1 minute positions, almost awlays take a loss. What is the quickest way to sell in this platform?

@warriortrading I just keep watching this playlist over and over again to keep myself motivated. I’m replicating it and The small gains are so hard to deal with. But my tradervue percentages are getting bigger each day. Finding joy in that. Win rate % is going up. Entry/exit efficiency % is getting bigger. Win ratios getting bigger. Journaling every trade on tradervue and reallly digging through every single buy and sell to see where I’m at. Thanks for keeping me inspired.

the good thing about starting small and slow, you're more careful, AND you get to see and learned the patterns, so whenever you switch to offside broker, you know what to look for.

Bro I forgot to ask what is the website that you use to trade? I m aware that you use Td Ameritrade platform but use another platform to trade because it’s faster and easier. What website to that other platform Steriling??

Hi Ross, I'm new at this, so sorry for the simple question but: is there a way to know when a circuit breaker halt has just occurred for a stock that you're busy watching on a ThinkorSwim chart? Is there some setting to activate for your charts so that an icon or bubble or something appears next to the last candle where the halt has just occurred? So far, I only know that a circuit breaker halt is imminent when the Level 2 shows Bid vs Ask price spread growing after Time & Shares lights up green for purchases, (too slow, an indicator on a chart would be better/faster).

Wow what a day this was but wow what a day Thursday wasn't!

Ugh. I have to say learning how to win seems much easier than learning how to gracefully loose in the sim.

The psychology behind trading is super important and I'm so glad I'm in the sim to learn more about how I respond to losing trades and how to respond better in the future.

I'm so thankful for the chat room because I dont feel alone in my journey to success and learning more about myself as a day trader. Today was tough but that's why I'm hear, to learn about being a successful day trader and also to learn more about how to be and stay professional all the time!

Thank you Ross for what you provide for so many! DJ John P

Hi Ross, Are you using TD Ameritrade's Level II when trading in the small account, do you think it's reliable?

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars JChan59 says:

thank you for this series Ross. Been on TD for a year and refining my strategy and how I trade. This series inspires me to stick my rules and more discipline than ever when I first started and I have been enjoying plenty of small losers less than 10 cents, small winners 1-5 cents and even some decent base hits of 15 to 20 cents since the start of this month. I'm feeling more confident daily by sticking to a process that is working for me and the best part is this series feels so relateable.
