With Tesla continuing to widen the gap between the company and its competitors, the legacy automakers are falling behind. In this video, I explain how GM plans to outsell Tesla.

It's no secret that Tesla has a major lead in electric vehicles, as it almost seems as if there is no competition. General Motors has recognized this and looks to outsell Tesla in the future. But how invested is GM and will the company become the next Nokia in this video? I'm gon na go over General Motors plan to copy Tesla. Before we begin, I've noticed that 92 % of you aren't subscribed yet so please take a moment and hit that subscribe.
Button, if you haven't already with that being said, let's get right into it. Steve Gursky, the vice chairman of GM, told Bloomberg Tesla could be a big disrupter. If we're not careful, history is littered with big companies that ignored innovation. That was coming their way because you didn't know where he could be disrupted because of this General Motors has assembled a Tesla task force that is built to study, Tesla's moves and disruption.
You heard that right, GM is actually creating a team of people whose purpose will be the study Tesla throughout this video you'll see how General Motors is taking an approach where the company is attempting to follow. Tesla's footsteps on GM's eveyday, the company unveiled a new modular battery pack platform. This platform can store between 50 to 200 kilowatt hours according to GM, with a combination of their new batteries called odium. This will allow for up to 400 miles of range and a 0 to 60 as low as 3 seconds.
The flexible platform will be used for an upcoming lineup of Easy's. In my opinion, this is a humongous step for GM, but nonetheless a step that Tesla did many years ago at the General Motors eveyday, the company hosted a livestream with the CEO Mary Barra, who was on a stage with a variety of upcoming electric vehicles. However, the live stream didn't display the electric vehicles on the stage and people that were there in person were not allowed to take any photos whatsoever. This lineup consisted of a new Chevy Volt, a Hummer SUV and truck a Chevy crossover and truck a Cadillac SUV in sedan to Buick SUVs and the Cruze origin.
Similar to Tesla General Motors looks to set up a network of Giga factories across the US with a 2.2 billion dollar investment into a Detroit Hamtramck plant and the 2.3 billion dollar investment into an Ohio plant partnering with LG Chem, similar to how Tesla is partnered with Panasonic, what's ironic is that after GM announced, the building of its own Giga factory, Elon Musk hinted at a Tara factory, which is a unit over a thousand times larger than the gigawatt hour. Gm's team has stated that they would like to build thousands of electric vehicle fast charging stations across the u.s. by partnering with another company named natural. However, while this sounds ambitious, both companies aren't willing to sacrifice their own money.
One report stated that neither company plans to put money into this project the two companies will create a separate corporation to build the charging network and companies are being invited to invest in it. The fact that General Motors is not willing to spend their own money on a charging Network shows how GM is risk-averse. When it comes to investing in a Selectric future GM's eveyday, the company's team stated that they were going all-in on electric vehicles. Many people got hyped up from this claim, but actions such as these are defined. The promises that General Motors has set with the popularity of Tesla's online ordering process General Motors set up a website a few years ago, named shop, clicked and drive. This website was met with plenty of criticism, as, unlike Tesla GM had to add in a complicated bargaining system where you would have to argue over email and calls for pricing, it's difficult to foresee General Motors, giving up dealerships or online ordering, but the company's recent moves Has shown that maybe the transition is beginning to occur. Gm recently announced that the company would enhance the website and launch the enhanced version in a few months, similar to Tesla GM announced a few months ago that it would be vertically integrating into battery cell manufacturing. This plan also included a goal to lower cobalt content by 70 % and lower the price of battery manufacturing below $ 100 per kilowatt hour.
These goals are suspiciously similar to Tesla's project codenamed Roadrunner, which also looks at lower cobalt content and manufacturer batteries at a price below $ 100 per kilowatt hour. According to General Motors, their batteries are already capable of a range of up to 400 miles and a 0 to 60 of 3 seconds. This sounds as if it would be groundbreaking, but if this was true, where is it? It seems as if this battery was created in a lab that hasn't been tested in a real-life scenario. At GM's eveyday, many investors were hyped to see what GM finally had to say.
While the event lasted two hours. The team basically said nothing which comes off as extremely sketchy. This is essentially how the events felt like using this flexible platform. We can utilize a new battery technology for a variety of worldwide applications.
Depending on how effective and efficient the battery is, we can adapt to the sizes and specs and leverage our competitive advantage. The placement of the batteries vertically and horizontally will transform the way the batteries are used, ultimately, adapting our upcoming vehicles at different situations. This flexible platform will be applicable at a global scale and operate efficiency with our vehicles throughout the presentation of GM's eveyday. That is exactly what it felt like constant talking with no meaning behind it.
Let me know what you think about GM's plan to copy Tesla in the comment section below. If you enjoyed this video, please hit the like button and subscribe and I'll see you in the next one.
As GM's worldwide sales continue to slip from 10 million to 6 million, and Tesla headed for 1.5 million soon, it's only a matter of 4 or 5 years, and Tesla will fly past GM and Chevy will go the way of Oldsmobile, the biggest selling car line in 1985. And Geo. And Hummer. And Pontiac. And Holden. And Saturn………get your "final edition" 2024 Camaro ordered. By 2026 it will be a collectors item. And I was one of Tesla's biggest doubters. Wow is all I can say.
I wouldn't exactly say GM will fail. The fact is few ICE manufacturers have ventured into EV products as much as GM. GM is ahead of Ford, Chrysler, and a lot of others.
Ok I might be upsetting Tesla fan boys in here. But GM is a company that make PROFITS…they have a plan. They sell more cars compared to Tesla big time. They are ready for the future. They are working on a transition to the future with a intelligent plan. With the new Ultium batterie soon they are in a good spot for a long run considering GM is way undervalue shares !!!!
Basically these companies are showing these so that their stocks don't completely tank!
Like it or not Tesla is in the lead with new tech, car, power wall, mega pack, solar roof, auto driving. The longer Tesla goes unchallenged the better chance they have of being the future. If ford Gm, Jeep or any other company wants a slice of the pie they need to produce a vehicle that is just as awesome or be left behind. All this talk of Ford and Gm killing Tesla but it seems to be all talk. Tesla expands its network of charging stations and selling a ability each year. At some point the need for electric vs ice cars will cross and ford and Gm will need to make an insane transition to electric or die. The moment is coming. I clearly see it.
Instead of building a GM or ford electric car…they need to start a new company. That is able to sell electric cars direct to consumers! Break out of the Franchise model! We donโt need it with electric cars!
The traditional auto makers need to build electric cars from a new company. One that is able to sell direct to consumers and can bypass the Franchise model they are required by law to have. Dealers who make most of there money through servicing are not going to sell a car that needs no maintenance!!
A big problem for these auto makers is the franchise model that they have to deal with. Car dealers are really mechanics with a built in client list. They are service stations!! Thatโs why the freaking check engine light is still a thing!! You canโt tell me if the transmission is about to go or if the gas cap is just lose?? Check engine!! Thatโs all u can tell me. Here is 2030 conversation- Cust calls the dealer. โHey there my check engine light is on. My car is driving itself over to you now so that you can hook it up to that 1980s device and tell me whatโs wrong with it! Thanks!โ
A team to study Tesla..?
Oh I have to laugh..
They could start with YouTube first.. good place to pick up what everyone with a nose for EV are saying.
Even better if the CEO or the top bosses even have a little interest of what's EV are doing. Just a little interest.
But alas… Why should they, the CEO gets paid >$20m.. so GM goes tits up, CEO just goes laughing all the way to the bank.
Ford & GM have been building old junk for years. I'll be glad when they're both extinct and new car manufacturers take over with new technologies doing things right. I won't miss either Ford or GM. Lousy management for years too busy stuffing their pockets with no attention to their businesses. Be gone.
GM has been making gas cars for 70 – 80 years – and they are all garbage. If you or anyone else thinks that they are going to make high quality electric vehicles to compete with Tesla, you are smoking, snorting or injecting something that has destroyed most of your brain cells.
I applaud the notion of following Tesla's lead, but if you're afraid to put money into it, you fail at the front door. Musk put everything he had into Tesla, risking it all.
GM's going to let China develop their electric cars. And even Tesla plans on going 2 China!
Both Ford and GM have designs that are not desirable, especially among Asians, where most cars are being bought. I doubt the upper management will ever learn and want to try something new.
copying is still worth encouraging! unlike some other automaker who can't even see electric car is inevitable.
I remember the EV-1 back in the day, and they dropPed the ball then as they will do now.
They will stick with ICE and when the heat is on what happens to ICE?
Remember gm talk is cheap and would like to see some action.
You gm are about to be left in the dust.
I mean the Truth is Elon has made many claims over the years, that didn't hit the mark in the short run, also if GM plans to do something, and doesn't stop till they do, i don't see an issue. They are behind and they know that, and there techs might have prototypes proving that they can do certain things, truth is it might take years, but they make it sound like it's right around the corner. I have no doubt they will be on tesla's level in 3-4 years, but the problem for them is that tesla is not sitting around waiting on them to catch up… Elon is plowing forward.
GM killed the GM EV1 because it was not profitable for GM. This company does not make cars. This company only wants to make money.
GM's lying to hurt Tesla stock value which will give them more time to continue manufacturing unreliable and unrepairable ICE vehicles. The big three have been building junk for a decade or two that have many issues that they can't or won't repair.
GM will die this decade. They simply can't catch Tesla, no matter what they do. The problem is, they don't have a clue. They know they are done. No risk-taking. No expertise. GM is a morbid and sick bureaucracy that has ripped off consumers for decades.
HAHAHAHA!! It will NEVER happen. Tesla now is kicking the shit out of GM's plan to sell EVs. GM is a dead organization. GM will continue to sit on its hands until it goes bankrupt. Mark my words.
GM is to far behind to play catchup by merely playing copying cat like the Chinese. With the China USA Tradewar
You can not lead from behind, Gm is behind. There only hope is to get their top engineers together and ask them "What do you guys want to build?" Then build it. Just do something awesome, do something you people love. The 2020 Corvette is an example its not electric and everyone wants one. Teslas would sell with gas engines, electric is awesome don't get me wrong, but if all Tesla had going form the was electric they would not be successful. GM does not have to go electric they just need to go awsome. That means narrowing the product selection and focus on the passions of there people ie Corvette. Too many leaders no direction.
Building an electric platform and putting a body on it is easy. As VW has now found out the software is REALLY difficult. I cannot see GM being able to outdo Tesla.
Compete with Tesla? Good luck with that, GM. The Volt was the best PHEV, maybe put the Voltec powertrain in a midsize crossover and compete with the RAV4 Prime and PHEV Ford Escape.
Fyi Pete Rawlinson, CEO of Lucid, former Model S chief engineer and also with true prestigious companies like McLaren and Lotus says that Tesla is about EIGHT, yes, 8 years ahead of the competition. Not 3-5. This man knows way more about EVs than any of these other legacy executives, has nothing holding him and the other startups back, and will admit the harsh truth… Good truth for us though… The gap is widening…
HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA Ask any Mechanic and they will say the old Chevy slogan sold vehicles but that BS is long gone when the recalls and POS vehicles they made kept falling apart!! Now we call Chevy A F ing ROCK!!! Juan our head Chevy Mechanic calls them "RUST EZE WRECKS" From the Movie Cars!!! Oh and Beat Tesla ….what crack are y'all Smoking…….it has to be lead paint huh???
I'm a Big Block Guy, I own Muscle Cars from all 3 but those Glory days are Done… I can actually see the END of Chevy & Chrysler Coming…& fast…. because they cant seem to stop shooting themselves in the foot every model year!
If Chevy thinks the New C8 Corvette is going to save Chevy if so it will only do that if that is All Chevy makes in the future!! I think the Only way Ford or any of the Legacy car makers survive is to Combine as 1 Company & DO NOT Let ANY1 from Chevy/Chrysler make ANY decisions ….how many more bailouts B4 its ENOUGH??
Lastly they Need to Get off their lazy Asses & Get a FULL Line of EVs OUT NOW Not in 2025!!! By then ELON will have an EV on the MOON & that will be the NAIL in the coffin for who was last thinking lower gas mileage will save us from people Buying EV's!!! Cow}:-o)
The most notable features of online Tesla fans is their lack of familiarity with the existing automotive industry or how manufacturing works. This video is a prime example of those characteristics. The video's comment about testing is telling. You think GM and the other OEMs test Less than Tesla before releasing a vehicle? Seriously? I guarantee it is the other way around.
OEMs worldwide are working on electric vehicles. Tier one suppliers are engineering and developing supply chains for components. If you think it's taking too long maybe you should ask how the people waiting for their Tesla Roadster or Semi are doing. Me, I'm going to take a robotaxi down to the bar to wait for Battery Day.
Tesla has some fine ideas, great emotional energy and phenomenal electrical engineering. They are right to be building out their manufacturing as quickly as possible but they have a long, long way to go and many obstetrical to overcome. Legitimate competition is one of those looming obstacles fans and shareholders discount at their peril.
love the guy from GM in the $5,000 suit and open collar, to be on of the 'common folk'
