With Tesla's battery investor Day approaching, it's no secret that Tesla has at least a million-mile battery. By now, this battery is already available for production and Tesla is currently working on ramping it up. However, we don't have much information on this new battery and this is primarily because of the Osborne effect in this video. I'm gon na discuss why I believe Tesla's new battery is in the Osborne effect.

Like this and let's get right into it in the year of 1981, Adam Osborne was the leader of a powerful force in the computer industry and that company was named the Osborne Computer Corporation. However, just two years after releasing one of the world's first portable computers, the Osborne Computer Corporation filed for bankruptcy. So how did this happen? On April 3rd 1981? The Osborne one was officially available for 1795 dollars.
This was easily deemed an industry disrupter, as other computers sold for twice the amount and those computers were not even portable. The Osborne one also came with a business software suite valued at $ 1500 for no extra cost after release. Tens of thousands of the Osborne ones were sold. However, the Osborne Computer Corporation had a problem which was Adam Osborne himself, just one and a half years after the Osborne one was released.
He promised that he would release two new computers that would be far superior to the Osborne one. These promises led the public to hold off on purchasing the Osborne one and before the Osborne Computer Corporation was able to release its more superior products. The company was already bankrupt. This sudden turn of events is known as the Osborne effect now Tesla's battery may be creating a less exaggerated, Osborn effect within the Tesla community.
Some people know that Tesla's new battery is far superior to the current batteries and are waiting to purchase a Tesla with a new battery. This effect, along with the pandemic, are lowering Tesla sales in the short term, ultimately leading Tesla to cut prices on his vehicles. Nonetheless, Tesla's new batteries are now ready for production and the company is ramping up the production fast. A few months ago, Tesla built a pilot production line in Fremont for the new battery.
Now, a couple days ago, Tesla announced that it would be scaling that production line by extending its Fremont factory by almost 30 thousand square feet. This proves that Tesla's pilot production line in Fremont was successful and manufacturing Tesla's new battery and, as a result, the company is scaling to a larger output. In this status. Update Tesla stated that, under the proposed project, operational electrical consumption is projected to increase to nearly ninety two thousand eight hundred megawatt hours per year, or an increase of approximately seventy two thousand eight hundred megawatt hours per year.
This means that Tesla's recent expansion in his Fremont factory is manufacturing batteries right now that will be used in Tesla's new vehicles, the production lines weren't just built for the research and development of Tesla's new battery, as Tesla stated that this equipment is assumed to operate 24 Hours per day for 365 days per year, while Tesla has this new groundbreaking battery, Elon Musk is attempting to keep the information hidden before Tesla's battery investor day. The battery day was initially scheduled for April, but we saw that date be delayed. All the way to September Elon Musk knows that Tesla's new battery isn't available for full-scale production and doesn't want to ruin Tesla's current sales, which is the same situation that the Osborne Computer Corporation had because hassle looks. The manufacturer is new battery for all of its US made vehicles. Panasonic's adjustments in gigafactory Nevada must be adjusted so that Panasonic produces the new battery. This was subtly hinted when Tesla signed a new three-year deal On June 10th 2020 Tesla stated that the New Deal relates to specific terms between the parties with respect to pricing, planned investments and new technology, as well as production capacity commitments by Panasonic and purchased volume. Commitments by Tesla over the first two years of the agreement, the description may be confusing at first, but if we look closely, we can see how Tesla is hinting at how Panasonic will manufacture Tesla's new battery in order to produce Tesla's new battery Panasonic must first purchase The materials needed to build a new battery production line, which is the quote, unquote planned investments, then Panasonic must adjust the pricing of the new battery, which is the adjustments for the quote, unquote. Pricing.
Finally, Panasonic must adapt its workers to the new technology which refers to the quote: unquote new technology. To sum this all up not only is Tesla attempting to ramp up its battery production lines, but Panasonic is also doing the same. A few days ago, Tesla also released its application to build a Terra Factory in Texas. This Terra factory will be the largest battery plant in the world and Tesla's.
Recent reports are showing that it will manufacture. Tesla's new battery Tesla has called the project for its Fremont factory the Terra battery manufacturing facility. However, we know that the Fremont factory's battery operations won't be producing terawatt-hours worth of batteries. Rather, as we discussed earlier, Tesla's Fremont factory is projected to have its battery capacity increased to nearly ninety two thousand eight hundred megawatt hours per year, which is not even close to a terawatt hour.
As a result, the Terra battery manufacturing facility must be referring to Tesla's upcoming Texas, Terra Factory overall Tesla isn't an Osborn effect with this new battery. Once these production lines are all set, then Tesla will be able to announce the specs of its new battery, but until then we'll have to hope the Osborn effects doesn't catch on. i think the lowering price of 5k was typical in patterns of teslas new releases. if u look at the prices of newly released models.. within half a year or so theres been a drastic drop in MSRP.
If this new battery is the 'whiz kid' of batteries. It is not going to have an "Osborne Effect" on just Tesla. As soon as the word gets out, you might as well shelve the rest, because there will be eyebrows raised asking the question 'And when is the Chevy Bolt going to have this, along with the VW I series etc"….And Maybe, just maybe, that is what Chrysler has been holding off for…'let the rest do the digging and we will enjoy the ride, paying a premium, at first, for the batteries. You never know! I bet Rivian is paying close attention. And, maybe that is why Elon is so ready to take Rivian to court…hmmmmmmm.

I think Tesla’s Osbourne Effect is for those who don’t realize that the best time to buy a Tesla is immediately after you can afford it.
I thought one of Tesla's virtues was perpetual upgrade-ability. That would effectively dissolve the Osborne effect ; no?
When my old tech batteries wear out I exchange them for the new formula batteries. Or; I pay a little to upgrade and use the old batteries for a credit on my home electric grid or power wall.

If the Board of Tesla ever got rid of Elon. It would be a day of wrecking for the company. He is literally a Steve Jobs and Bill Gates walking on neurons, electrolytes, speed and determination to reach dreams.
Very few people are worried about driving ANY car a million miles. The current batteries are more than adequate for most first owners of new Tesla’s. As long as they last 5-7 years and have adequate range for the owner’s needs, it is all about the price of the car, not what the battery costs Tesla, or how well it works in an 800,000 mile car.
If you are thinking of buying value for money vehicle …which in my case is around 3 years used ..bought cross over mazda cx5 for 16k Canadian. No matter how much I love tesla which I genuinely do, it doesn't even come close.

Novonix just got their patents that would prove useful for the million mile battery. i guess thats what pushed back the reveal. stocks of novonix from .4 jumped to 1.4 in 2 days.
What Tesla might do is not increase the range of the car fleet but reduce the battery size and thus increase the profit margin. That way there can advertise on the reduced weight of the car and there will be no Osborne effect.
I honestly don’t think they are worrying about the Osborne effect at all. They have plenty of demand, and room in the margins due to increased efficiency.
Simple thing is if they can build new battery or some kind of battery upgrade for their current vehicles.

With the Pandemic. No one is really in a rush to buy a car. The price cut was a welcome announcement. That plus the fear of losing the Federal rebate has me considering placing the order regardless of battery day. However, I have decided to wait till battery day to see if the SR+ gets more range. So you could say the Osbourne effect is at play for me. Alternately, you could argue that the price cut is due to an increase in Tesla's Production volume and diminishing production costs globally (increased Economies of Scale). Allowing them to keep the same profits but with a larger number of units. After all, Elon's main mission is to accelerate the transition of the world towards sustainable energy.
Panasonic will make a better and cheaper battery for the 3 and Y, but not the same tap-less battery they are making in Fremont for S and X, my guess
The problem with the analysis is that the current battery production is not being replaced by the new battery. All the new production is incremental. Thus, much of the existing product line will remain unchanged, with a majority of new production likely going to Semi at least in the short term.
I didn't understand the significance of the Osborne effect. My dad had the (luggable not portable) one in the video. Twin 5 1/4 inch floppy drives. We also had a 1 megabyte hard drive the size of a large shoebox. Very fragile. Park the read/write head before careful transport. CPM (which had an A prompt not C prompt) some folk say it was pinched by some kid called Gates but I don't know. It ran a program called Supercalc which looked a lot like Excel.

Any tech is Osborne effect prone, sad about old Osborne though, but in today's information revolution, we know what we can buy and we know a brand new internal combustion engine car on a 5 year finance plan is going to be obsolete before it's paid off. A new Tesla with a slightly old battery not at all. Get a new one, build a powerwall for your solar installation with the old one
Tesla should advertise a 50% discount for battery upgrade trade ins or maybe free power walls built with repurposed old batteries when purchasing new ones, so the fear is lost

You are wrong on so many points that it's not even funny. First of all Tesla is not "in the Osborne effect" because this refers to a manufacturer prematurely announcing a superior product and then fails to deliver, killing sales of the existing product in the process. Tesla has made no formal announcement of a new product, so the Osborne effect doesn't apply here. Secondly you seem to assume that Tesla's car sales are very poor now, which there is no evidence of. The Corona crisis has effected sales for all car manufacturers, yes, but this has nothing to do with the Osborne effect. In fact analysts are beginning to expect Tesla to report 85,000 deliveries in Q2 which would be close to their all time record. Possibly a net profit too, which would be sensational given the abnormal circumstances in Q2. So the whole premise of your speculation is wrong. Lastly you seem to believe that Panasonic will be making Tesla's new cells. Wrong again. The whole point of Tesla designing their own cell chemistry (Jeff Dahn) and buying up battery manufacturers (Maxwell and Hibar), is that Tesla wants to take over manufacturing of their own batteries. They no longer want to depend entirely on Panasonic. The small manufacturing line in Fremont is just a pilot production plant.
