Every car should come with a smartwatch instead of car keys. Use the watch to unlock the door and start the engine. Keys are so obsolete. Yes I know the phone can do it, but you don't always have your phone with you. So its better to have a smartwatch. If the battery dies, the smartwatch can have an RFID chip inside it so you can tap it against the door to unlock (even when the battery is dead). Tap it against the steering wheel to start the engine.
Or they could just make an app for Apple and Samsung to do the same thing.

If I had to drive my kids to school every day, this watch would be worth thousands of dollars per year if two things happened: 1) Tesla robotaxies were running and approved for kids under 16 (very few human ride-sharing services, except premium services like Hop-Skip-and-Drive) can drive kids under 16. 2) the Tesla watch was the metaphoric key to the (robo) car and integrated tightly enough to signal when my child had buckled up, left safely, and arrived safely. With that integration, parents like me would consider it indispensable.

Might not be a smart watch, could just as easily be a new advanced key fob with a screen, or maybe the electronics for a smart thermostat like a Nest or an Ecobee .
are you kidding, tesla attrack most talented engineers? Before this 6 months stock increase, Tesla only can hire lower level engineers in bay area because their pay is low.
Man let's be fair, Tesla could sell Tesla Cookies and everyone is going to buy them..
But on a more serious note, smartwatches are amazing and combine that with Tesla it's just a recipe for succes
Sounds nonsense to me. Tesla and Elon Musk aims much higher then watches. Also why would Tesla create a better OS than Apple? It seems like an April's fool video at the wrong time, probably as an answer to Apple car videos.
The watch would make sense if executed well but I'm still reluctant due to compatibility concerns with Apple and Android. Apple prefers its own ecosystem. Android is too fragmented. Consider how wear os is doing compared to the galaxy tyzen os vs apple watch os.
I think if Apple wants to get ahead of this, the answer is to drive down their own prices and advertise well. If more of the lower-end spenders get integrated Apple homes, not only will their fan-base inflate, but those lower-end spenders can’t afford to make a switch on all this integrated stuff once Tesla releases theirs. Which also will result in some of them shunning the opposition, assuming their Apple products are all solid. (I’m a Tesla fan btw, just like analyzing market methodology)
If I can control the car functions like the Tesla app and e.g. validate my face to open the doors without taking out my phone, I'm sold!

Elon's words to Bezos were monopolies are bad, but Elon's companies WILL monopolize. They won't be consumers ONLY choice, but they will be about the only choice consumers want, because they'll be the best product and value. Elon isn't about gouging, just kicking ass at an incredible value. Elon should make vans before Bezos does and undercut Amazon just to mess with Copy 🐈 Bezos… just kidding…Elon won't need to do anything to Bezos to far surpass him in wealth.
I think you are reading too much into it. This won't be a smart watch for open market. This will replace the Tesla key card…that's all. To really make an eco system built around a smart watch, Tesla would also need to come up with their smartphone, which they are not (yet). You guys forget what Elon's vision is. He is not here to make consumer products for profits. All his vision revolves around transforming how we as a species are doing and make it more sustainable.
when it comes out, I will certainly consider buying (I have a Tesla model 3 and a Cybertruck on order)
