I haven't tried yet. Can you do a sell limit order and a stop lost order at the same time on Robinhood? That way incase it reaches the high position, it sells for profit and if it dip below to stop losing too much money?

I wont use a platform that does not offer a trailing stop loss. I got out of TSLA at 913 when it peaked 966 and started falling using a trailing stop loss. I would not have been able to exit in a timely manner otherwise.

Also using a level of support as a point for a stop loss may not be the best. Institutional traders are aware of this strategy and could intentionally manipulate stock price to trigger these stop loss levels to gain more stock, or so I have heard.

Can someone explain why you can’t simply hold on to a stock as it dips down and keep it until it rises back up?

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars R0botbutt-er says:

Why does everyone talk about trailing stop loss when Robinhood doesn't apply to that? Almost every video does this.

Ricky, consider talking in percentages. Its more relatable. People that are trying to sway people (like the news) or sell you something often talk in ticks and dollars. Well if you're trading BRK.A at about a quarter of a million per share its a little different than AMD at about $20 a share! Percentages are all the matters. Especially as many of your followers are young with very little money to invest so their commission cost will affect them much more than typical older traders. Do this and you'll set yourself apart from all the charlatans on here hocking their courses.

Stop losses need to take into account the volatility of the stock. I don't think I hear anything about that here. Did I miss that? Also, if the stock makes a sudden dip, the chances of it making a sudden rebound is much better than if it has a slow, consistent decline in price. As a beginner in short term trading I'm not knowledgeable on the vocabulary used – maybe someone can fill that is for us. And it seems like its much better to not telegraph your position to others by using stop loss orders, rather be notified so you can then decide on your own. The downside for some of this is the emotions involved. Its often hard to sell when a stock is declining. Basically you're admitting you made a mistake in buying it. But one needs to look at the positive: When it declines its a chance for us to buy in again at a lower price. So this is why stop losses are usually a good thing. Even if you buy in later and it continues its decline, you've still lost less than if you had done nothing. Over time this can make an enormous difference. Successful traders are far more concerned with loss than gain. Because it only takes one big loss to take you out. Focusing on consistent, smaller gains (like many short term traders tend to do) seems to be a much safer way to trade. Basically….don't be greedy! 🙂
Another point is what is the sector of that stock doing? Especially tech. If the whole sector is declining is that really a good reason to sell the stock? Does it really have anything to do with the true value of the stock? Unless you are going to try to buy again at a lower price, watch out for sector decline. Its a good chance its going to snap right back up.
When stocks decline a lot, who do you think are buying the stocks while the media is whining and moaning about all the losses? Probably the longer term investors. They tend to be the ones that "rescue" markets when they are in a free-for-all slide.

Nice videos, I didn't have time to read thru all the comments but in regards to your entry point if you set your stop loss, as in this example $.01 under your pay price, in a volatile market or heck the market in general, what if the next candle was a red one, which would be very likely to be. You just stopped out and lost and if you did this with every buy all you would do is lose or at least the majority of the time it seems that would be the case. In real life where do you set your stops at in regards to entry points?

I had a stop loss on a stock but when I tried to sell it wouldn't. Do I have to cancel my stop loss before I sell? i use Tdameritrade.
