This is exactly why 95% of traders lose money. You shouldn't just simply long a stock that gaps down. Most stocks that gap down 5% and lower will usually continue lower. Another thing, not once did you mention how much news matters when a stock gaps up or down. The direct reason for a stock to gap up or down in most cases is after hours news. However, 80% of gaps will fill eventually, so if you want to long a gap down anticipating a gap fill then you better be patient as it can take months for a gap to fill.
