10 people were killed in a mass shooting in Los Angeles on Saturday a gunman opened fire on within a ballroom dance studio one which he used to be a regular visitor of. Potentially so much of a regular visitor that at some time on some occasions the individual was there as much as every single night. the individual was eventually stopped by police and has shot himself. He has died.

He was stopped by police in this vehicle. This is the Monterey Park shooting suspect dead in self-inflicted gunshot and Van and Torrance you could actually go to my Twitter at realmeetkevin and you'll be able to see some tweets that I've I've uh I pressed the like button on not necessarily I like what's happening here at all because it's terrible but it gives you a little bit of a if you want to see some videos related to this van, you could see that this was the suspect bulletin for the description. this is a bolo be on the lookout for. It was uh put out as an Asian male Saturday Jan 1 21 2023 10 22 p.m A suspect pictured above above was involved in a shooting around the 100 block of West uh Garvey Ave at the city of Monterey Park Second incident occurred shortly after that.

uh, just under 20 minutes later in the city of Alhambra Now these two instances, the first left 10 people dead plus him now so 11 people dead and 10 people injured. The second instance was another dance studio where the individual wanted to go inside and open fire again, but two Heroes wrestled the gun away from him and then he took off. Now he was so injured that reportedly he ended up going to a hospital emergency room to get treated for his injuries. By the time the hospital realized that this person matched the description, he left the waiting room at the ER since they stuck him in the waiting room and uh and and it bailed and then of course was found uh uh via the traffic stop where he ended up ending his own life.

uh, this is terrible Monterey Park is a community that is 65 Asian 26 Hispanic 13 white so it is predominantly Asian A lot of Uh folks on Twitter have uh made a big deal of uh, this being uh, potentially a hate crime before the suspect was actually uh discovered. For example, uh, uh, you know folks, uh, folks on Twitter making the argument that uh, this is clearly you know, uh, an instance of hate, uh, potentially white supremacy that you know this is uh, Maga undergoing a shooting and uh, a lot of individuals and you know, tensions run very high anytime there are shootings. But but some individuals Like Larry Elder whom I ran against for governor in the state of California I beat him in San Francisco but uh, Larry Elder replies the dead suspect is uh, is, uh, essentially an Asian male and then he writes awkward Katie Hobbs Now this is actually a sentiment that has been circulating. the sentiment that on one side you you hear that oh, a shooting, It must be another White supremacist and it's someone with uh, you know, minority hate or or hate for a particular or ethnic group and the response here is like, no, you know, not all shootings are driven by hate And that's true.
not all shootings are driven by hate. However, it's also worth noting that it is entirely possible, you know. And I'm not trying to jump on any narrative here, right? I'm just providing perspective I I'm very much in the middle when I ran for governor I promise to be in the middle and I ran as basically a 59-49er and uh, when when anytime I take political biasy tests I'm like in the mid, if anything I'm left, right, middle but then I go a little bit more towards libertarian versus authoritarian on sort of the the four Axis chart. But when it comes to this, it's worth noting that there can be hate against all other humans.

In fact, the individual was uh, was quoted as being somebody who had a bad temper. uh, as somebody who who was known to to be very frustrated and even though he was known as uh, being somebody would come to the dance studio a lot. he lived just five minutes away from the home. Uh, he was described as easily irritated and somebody who would complain a lot.

Somebody who didn't have a lot of trust for people. and in my opinion, uh, this is somebody who you know whether whether or not they hate all people or maybe they hate certain people or they hate certain Asians or not all Asians I Don't know. Maybe he just hates everyone, right? This is somebody who has, uh, unfortunately, a mental illness. Uh, and this is where one of the the were had since he's now dead.

This is where one of the premises of my campaign for Governor in California was we should not be sending stimulus checks in 2022 to people pushing us into a budget deficit much like we're in now. We should be saving for a rainy day and we should be investing in education and especially me. We have PE at our schools. Why don't we have me at our schools.

It's mental education. Mental education should be normalized. Mental stigmas are not normal. Uh.

in with with the ability for people to discuss them or to talk about them right? A lot of people have mental illnesses. In fact, probably 20 to 30 percent of us suffer from mental or anxieties or mentally debilitating. uh, problems like depression, sadness? Uh, also again, anxiety, right? These are things that many Americans deal with. They're real problems, but nobody wants to talk about them because mental health is stigmatized.

We believe that somebody who says they have a mental problem is mental, right? And that's in my opinion because we don't work out our brains and our mentality like we are supposed to work out our body or taught to work out our body in as early as Elementary School instead were stigmatized. and so I believe that as Governor Uh, one of the biggest pushes we could have had would have been the requirement that everybody yearly has the opportunity not to have a physical evaluation, but a free mental health examination. More money into mental health professionals Mental Health Services For homeless folks, there just aren't enough people. Homeless people get like three to six month wait lists to get in touch with somebody who's in the mental health profession and then they're usually somebody newer who hasn't gone on a to Private health care yet.
Where it's very expensive to get mental health care. why don't we teach mental health in schools, right? There's so much sadly hate and on animosity in our world, and in part that's because Envy drives the world hate and envy and animosity does somewhat Drive the world and we have to come to the realization of that and acknowledge that so we can actually start solving it. Tran Not Only was described as easily irritated, but it's worth noting he worked in a secluded business. He was a truck driver.

He was mostly alone. Now By no means should anyone defend the horrific acts of this person. And you know, taking a Cobra. M11 Nine millimeter semi-automatic handgun with potentially a 30 round magazine and shooting people and killing other people is disgusting.

Not only is this disgusting and treacherous, but it's so terrible that somebody like this deserves not to have died with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, but but in my opinion in a much more horrific way themselves. Because once you start taking other people's lives, innocent people's lives, all my respect for for you and your rights go out of the window in my opinion. But the goal here should be how how do we help prevent these future instances. California It's very difficult, especially in California to get a concealed carry license.

What if somebody at the first location was carrying and concealed carrying a concealed firearm? What if they had even the ability to pull their weapon and fire it and even if they missed? What if they put the fear of God And to that individual who was shooting to where they bailed and left, what's it called the fudge? Factor right? Those who train in Firearms are like oh my gosh, I'm being shot at like that creates panic and anxiety. When you think you're the only one with a gun and somebody else has a gun, it's like oh, I'm out of here. What if that could have saved five lives. It leads to the idea that maybe people, uh, should have the right to bear arms.

Jeez, imagine that. I'm a big supporter of licensed concealed carry and expanding concealed carry permitting obviously with some degree of training and I think that training should be uh to some degree subsidized for those who can't afford it which is something that a government should do is Hey look will authorize permitting. but we we want to maybe mandate a a training in In in the opportunity to expand that and we'll pay for it for people who can't afford it now I know I Always get a response from people like Kevin it says shall not be in French Bro, it's already infringed. It is already deeply infringed.
Look at: Cali Even law-abiding citizens can't carry. It's ludicrous. Okay, like I want to be clear: Okay, there's like the gun absolutist. Then there's the No Guns and then I'm in the middle.

Okay, it's the nature being in the middle I Want to be clear: I think more people should have concealed carry firearms and the government should support initiatives for that and around training around that. I think a lot of people buy a gun and I hate to say it. but when more people have guns, there is a greater link that if you introduce a gun into your household, you're more likely to kill yourself than anybody else. And that's why you have to combine that with more money going into Mental Health more support programs around the stuff and getting people around other people.

Sky was probably a loner who lost it. It's terrible again. You never want to excuse this. There is no excuse for taking anyone else's life.

And that's not what I'm doing here. What I'm saying is the government needs to stop sending thoughts and prayers and Twitter needs to stop focusing on was it hate or was it not hate? Oh awkward. Oh, embarrassing. this.

That and up. Everybody needs to wake up and realize that what we need is mental health, education, and support for people. And that's what I stand for. Support people, support mental health issues, and widen legal gun ownership.

No Americans dare to face the real problem here: we have mental issue people all around the world, and some of them harm people, but no country like US who can just get a gun and shoot down a whole bunch of people without training. USA is indeed the dangerous place in the world.

It's a failure of insight to believe that the shooter was not also a victim, a victim of society!

Even though I am a Republican 51-49 to the conservative side. You would make a awesome Governor for California Kev. I voted for Elder because I’m scared of today’s Democratic Party. The whole Trans movement and Drag Queen, Antifa, BLM etc make me scared to trust any Democrats. You are hope for the Democratic Party revival of the old Kennedy days. Wish you the best and thanks for all you do.

It is t worth talking about in mental cases because the problems are not in our head, they are real problems in the real world.

I am a big supporter of right to carry, no license, no fees, no taxes, permits. This is what we have in the Vermont constitution. And it works. Very high number of gun owners, very, very low gun deaths both absolute and percapita. Note suicides do not count: VT is a right to die state. Please do not be ness when you leave.

The types of people that shoot up public places won't seek mental health services if they were available. Americans need to shift away from their bizarre gun culture if anything is going to change. Adding more guns to the problem is silly imo.

There is so much involved in this that stigma is the bottom of the list. I work as an RN and the first part has to start with food. If a person does not get sustainable nutrition (No McDonalds, Wendy's, Burger King, etc) There has been so many studies done on what happens to the brain is it well known. Until the greed gets under control (and greed is easily explained) this is only going to get worse, etc.

If everyone assumed we all had a concealed firearm, it would be much less likely for someone to come in shooting up everyone, and even if they did, only 1-2 people might go down before the shooter himself is taken out by one of the concealed weapons holders.

I live in Florida and half of my friends and family are always armed. The only time we do have shootings in Florida is in Gun Safe zones, this is were legal gun carriers are at a disadvantage because they have to leave their guns at home or secured in the car. Criminals don't care about the law so a sign isn't stopping them, Pulse night club and Parkland high school are two examples.

Wow! I absolutely Agree w you 👍 💯 Not enough services for people who REALLY need them! I know homeless disabled Vets surviving on the streets, boxes or in cars all this winter. (& they dont drink, do any drugs..jusst very stressed, anxious and THEY NEED HOUSING! WHY are illegals arriving w Nikes, new cell phones, put up in nice hotels & red carpet treatment While our Heroes who actually SACRIFICED for THIS Country are left to die. ?? It is wrong & heartbreaking. I had to talk a guy outta suicide today..almost every day 😢 🇺🇸 !! Our corrupt, greedy Govt & "non-profits" are NOT Helping! I know disabled girl falls outta her bed lays for days bcuz she has No caregiver. She is approved for 32 hrs/week but her C Mgr wont help or return her calls. Shes been suicidal, depressed for months too! Plse help!

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars JC * inc says:

Can this be called Asian Hate Crime?
I guess not, since it isn’t a mentally ill black suspect.

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars András Bíró says:

Maybe we should use a ChatGPT derivative that's specifically trained in psychology. It could pre-screen people regularly, and refer them to a human specialist if necessary.

As for guns, I'm strongly against it. Based on simple logic and actual real world data. First, people get into arguments and fights all the time, and the presence of a gun can escalate it very quickly from a shouting match to a shooting match. The risk of using a gun when you shouldn't is far higher than the risk of not having one when you need it. And this is of course supported by data from all other developed countries where carrying a gun is strictly forbidden, except for cops. Obviously gun violence is rare in those countries, but the rate of other crimes are the same or lower. So statistically gun ownership doesn't seem to prevent crime, but causes it.
Then there are accidents and suicides too. The first I don't think requires much explanation. But the second is a bit counter-intuitive. Statistics show a strong correlation between gun ownership and suicide rates. The likely explanation is that most suicide attempts are impulse decisions, so the easier it is to do, the more likely it is to happen. And nothing makes it easier than a gun.
Switzerland proves that strict regulations can prevent gun violence, as they have as they love guns as much as Americans, but they don't have shootings. But they too have very high suicide rates.

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ben says:

I have to disagree on this. Americans believe in guns similar to the way Americans believe in God. That is how many Americans are born and raised. This guns concept have been embedded in Americans brain to the point that they think they can't live without the guns. If bad guys use violence, the only way to stop is the fact that good guys have to use violence as well……. I have had many debates on this topics. I've come to the point where I've realized that it's a waste of time to debate; because Americans think of guns almost in the religious way. I usually end the conversations by I have the Americans think why many places in the rest of the World are OK with less guns?
