You are misleading the audience big time! 401K is investing in the stock market, hoping that in 20-30-40 years those stocks will be worth something. Take a look around, the world is changing really fast and in 10-15 years there will be no jobs and huge unemployment. Governments will be forced to jack up taxes, and people will survive on unemployment. Where is the market going to go then? Your 401K contributions will be worth a penny or a nickel in the best case scenario.

Thanks for sharing this for the younger and some older generations who have never had this explained. I was lucky that the company that worked at had a group of financial advisers that would come in and explain this concept to all the new employees. I'm not sure that most companies do this today. I just recently explained the 401 and ROTh to my daughter because the company she works for did not elaborate and only told her she had the option to contribute.

Great video, when i was layed off a few years ago i rolled over my 401k plan wright before the corona virus to a TD Ameritrade IRA account, did not lose a dime. Now i am trading with it so i am my own IRA investor/Trader and loving it.

What about social security and jobs that offer pensions? I'm nervous now cause I'm 27 and only briefly had a 401k( has about 1500 in it) before I did my time in the military, feel like I'm starting a bit late
Roth 401K or Roth IRA.
here's a follow up…take all of your available fund options (usually about 20) and spreadsheet them with 3 month, 1 year, 3, 5, 10 year return. It will be clear which ones are losers. Rank them and choose the 3-4 best. Do this every 6 months and watch your money grow.
